Yesterday, mostly blue with one quick trip up Pink Mountain. ohmygod_smile But she made up for it with a lovely flat blue night.

12/18 Recap:
AMPS 100 +4.5 337 +9 195
PMPS 141 +2 133 +4 128 +9 123

Well, Neko is off at the vetty's and I've got a moment to post. Neko is at a dental specialist, and it's fortunately only about 15 minutes away (as long as the bridge in the middle isn't clogged). I left her with yesterday's T-shirt and some canned Wellness for when she wakes up. Neko did get 1/3 of her meal this morning (and 1/3 just before midnight last night) and .1U of insulin. I now have an appreciation for people who have to measure that dose. I did waffle a lot about giving her insulin at all, but this vet will constantly monitor her BG's during the day, Neko will likely be going up anyway, and most important - she's an acrocat, she can handle it.

And I am so glad we went to the specialist. The redness on the gum that my vet thought was a cavity is likely just a wear mark from her tooth above. It could be that some of the soft tissue growth due to her acromegaly is the cause. The dental vetty is first going to take X-rays to confirm, but if that's what it is, he may end up filing back the tooth. Which is way better than the regular vet would have done, which is an extraction!  On the down side, one of her canines might have some issues so we aren't out of the woods yet for possible extractions. And she got bumped from first on the surgery list to possibly third. They only do four a day and the other patients were dogs - darn barkers. One of the questions one the questionnaire was whether my pet was a show dog. Umm - NO!!! She's a cat.

In addition to periodic BG testing, Neko will get her own nurse who will monitor her. They have doppler attached (to monitor heartbeat, important cause of Neko's murmur). All in all, I'm pleased we went to the specialist. The wallet, still TBD. The estimate was a wide range based on what they have to do. They were OK with me saying no Metacam and no convenia. Clindamycin is their AB of choice and I told them I prefer pills. They wrote all that down. I also talked about checking her throat before intubation, as again the acro soft tissue growth can be a concern there.

So now I wait......... They are located across the street from Vancouver's best Italian grocery store - I managed to burn off some nervous energy shopping there.

Thanks for the continuing dental vines from everyone! :YMHUG:

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 - Neko at dental vet

Sounds like you covered all the important points, Wendy. So smart to leave a day old t-shirt. Wish I had done that. It is a good feeling to feel confidence in the vet working on our babies. Still nerve wracking, but more bearable. Hope you get an "all is well" call soon.
How convenient on the bakery

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 - Neko at dental vet

Hi Wendy, I've been trying to post all day to see how it's going! Sounds like the dental specialist will be good :-D Dental vines to Neko, and comfort vines to you :YMHUG: I know the waiting is hard. I'll be looking for an update later today :-D Hope the wallet doesn't take too much of a hit :?

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 - Neko at dental vet

Sending prayers all goes well with Neko's dental and she won't need any extractions. It sounds like a good vet practice.

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 - Neko at dental vet

Still waiting.... I called a couple hours ago, sounds like she might have gotten bumped even later. Grump! Would have been bumped by some wussy small dogs. They were smaller than Neko - when we were in the waiting room I told her she could beat them up. Clinic said I can pick her up in a little over an hour but I'm still waiting to hear from the vet who is supposed to call after surgery.

@Jane, Rachel, Carla, Liz - Thanks for keeping me company while I pace back and forth.

ETA: Snow fall warning for tonight - hope it doesn't start earlier. I want my baby home before then.

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 - picking her up from dentist

Just go the call - I can pick her up. NO EXTRACTIONS!!! No medications. Yipee!! The ole girl still has all her teeth and they are in great shape. The issues she had were due to her acromegaly and she just got a little crown filing so that tooth doesn't rub on her gum line anymore. They just took her BG - 164.

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 - picking her up from dentist

It was forecast for snow on J.D.'s dental last January. I'm glad you are only 15 minutes away. Drive carefully. I hope the snow holds off until you are safely home.

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 +8.5 164- picking her up from dentis

Nice Report. Nice BG too :)

Woo Hoo! That's wonderful. I hope you don't have to drive in any snow to get her home. Drive safely.

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 +8 76 +8.5 164 +10 160- home!

+8 76 +8.5 164 +10 160
So I'm a bit pissed at the vetty's office. They said they'd monitor her BG during the day and all I have is the before anesthesia and after numbers. So, just where did she go between AMPS and that +8! That +10 is an in the door number and we'll see how she does from now to PS to figure out what I'm going to shoot tonight. She did eat about 1/4 tin of Wellness Turkey between the vetty office and a +10 snack when I got home. If she does go down, I won't know if it's the anesthesia talking or her regular late nadir. Hmm.

She is supposed to eat soft food tonight - no raw with ground bones. But she did eagerly scoop up some raw crumbs from Theo's plate. Not looking forward to holding her off for food the next 2 hours. Update: darn cat wants outside now - don't think so sweetie.

She didn't get a crown, just some grinding down the crown of the tooth so it doesn't rub. Of course, she could get soft tissue growth on the other side or this one could grow more. Darn tumor - die already! Don't need any more growth hormone. I was hoping that would stop or slow down to next to nothing with SRT, but maybe she's had that cleft for a while. The thing with her canine was also just some soft tissue growth so vetty thought all issues were related to acromegaly - but they aren't really bad issues. Yet again I'm thankful I went to a specialist and didn't get her tooth yanked. X-rays (which I have a copy of) show her roots are all in great condition. Vetty thought her teeth looked great for her age (not quite 13).

@Dyana, Catherine, Carla, Liz, Sienne, Donaleen, Chris, Nancy, Kim, Ella - Thanks for stopping by. No snow, not supposed to fall for another 4 hours or so. Whew! And the accident on the highway off ramp was cleared by the time I came back. And since there was so little work, the bill was less than estimated. But not by much.

@China - I can still chew real good - get your mom to give you some gizzards or neck bones and you can have strong teefies too.
@Chris - Vetty said 29% of felines in America get FORL, so China's just in a large group of such kitties. And it's a middle age thing, it tapers off after a certain age.

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS 123 +8 76 +8.5 164 +10 160- home!

I'm glad you are home safely, and Neko didn't have any extractions - wonderful news! I tell ya....I know it's hectic in vetty's offices, but I get so anxious any time my babies are there, because they're not HOME, and cared for the way I would care for them. But, Neko is now back where she belongs. Have a relaxing evening!!

Great report! well, on everything except the wallet hit! i think punkin's last dental was something more than $1,000. might've been $1300 - enough that i just handed over the plastic, turned my head and signed my name. anything for our babies! :-D

so glad she did so well and there wasn't anything significant in there. i hear ya on the tumor - damn things seem to be tenacious. what else can survive being radiated?!?

oh well, overall it sounds like she's doing great, and that's the part that matters. i'll bet you're so glad to have it done! :YMHUG:

Re: 12/19 Neko AMPS +8 76 +10 160 PMPS 177- home!

Hey, Wendy -

Sorry I didn't stop by earlier; I was thinking tomorrow was dental day. This crud just about has me down for the count (as if I have time for that!)

Glad Neko did so well at the vet and got to keep all her teeth!! I know she's glad to be home!!!

SNOW?! It's supposed to be 65 here tomorrow. That's fall/winter in NC. 46 today, 65 tomorrow, etc.

Wishing y'all a peaceful night -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

First time in many weeks we've had anything that high on the right side of the SS - we are paying for this morning's partial shot and stress. But maybe the bean gets good sleep. cat_pet_icon Neko has finally stepped out of the kitchen and is relaxing a bit. The snow has started here which makes everything seem so much quieter.

@Cleo, Amy, Julie, Libby - There's nothing like home with your kitty back under your care. Julie - the bill was 3 figures, but not by much. And I hate seeing that tumor damage my baby. I want it gone!
