12/18-BEAR- +11 101, late nadirs

Oh boy, I wonder if it’s also maybe a function of not having snacks in the pm cycle? In any case, he definitely earned a reduction with that 73 and following SLGS. The question will be where will he be at preshot. And how is your day looking? Home to monitor?

Oh gosh i need to edit this, i just looked at my calculator and i hit x13 instead of 18!! So he is 5.6 = 101, oh boy my morning brain lol

I’d see where he is at for preshot but as long as you can see at least up to around +4 like yesterday we can probably manage with testing and feeding. He may yet earn a reducie today, he does seem to be angling for it.

No 😩 hes been super elusive with his habits lately and he wont use the box anymore..
Something told me to get a +11 today, i had a feeling this would be the case again..
And even with our stalls hes been pretty flat 🥴

Thinking 💭 and i dont know if this is an option…
If we didnt want to give a reduction, how much can we stall? I do have some wiggle room the next few days that i could hold off 90 mins at most..

We could do something similar as Dec. 15th with 0.25u although we can see up to +2 today. Shooting full dose would be a bit trickier since you may be gone for the part of the cycle where he onsets and nadirs today. If we see with reduced dose that he doesn’t get a food bump at +1 you can consider using MC to prop him up at +1 and possibly +2 before you go. How does that sound?

Good thought, my worry with stall is that he’ll continue to stay flat, although in that case if you get to 1 hour past usual, you may still be considering dose, and then you’d not have much time to monitor thereafter.

That could be an option also! I just worry about all these darn reductions lol darn it, Bear!! Lol

I will say lately you are testing enough for TR, and apart from his sneaking contraband, he’s not eating dry. I wonder if you are able to maybe try TR into the weekend, starting tomorrow, and we could try and see how he goes when you can monitor lower preshots. He seems to keep giving you the opportunity to shoot around 100….

I know what you mean, our stalls have been mostly flat.. i was just kind of hoping with that much time hed start to ween off the pm shot lol if we shot 90 mins late id be home around +3 🤷‍♀️

That might work, usually when you stall for a longer period of time, shooting full dose ends up being the choice, since it’s late enough that you wouldn’t want to stall that long AND do reduced dose.

Sorry, I guess I’m giving you too many options lol
No no, you suggested the reduction, i came up with my own theory lol.. i wasnt aware stalling that long wasn’t eligible for a reduced dose.. i kind of thought bonus he gets the full, if not he gets the reduced.
With this knowledge im thinking the reduced dose right out of the gate is the best option..
Going to grab another test now but i doubt wel see any changes

Well it’s just not ideal, because you’re double dipping, over an hour for most cats already acts like a dose reduction, then you reduce dose as well…yes, I was just going to say see where his at now…

Yeah, let’s do that and then think about what I mentioned with TR, at least for a short term, it gives you some more wiggle room with respect to reduction point as well as the shootable number.

Can you tell me more about this?!

We are getting a libre today!! So now just have to figure out how to apply it 🥴 haha
Hoping it will help us see how low hes going at night, perhaps he HAS earned a reduction and weve just been missing it!

Shot 0.25 👏

Yes, it does take some time for the depot to rebuild, so you often see some wonky numbers from taking a reduced dose. The good news is you can see +1 and perhaps +2 today, which you couldn’t do last time.

There are detailed instructions for Libre installation here and here! If you have any questions feel free to ask - I've had a couple of successful installations now, and there are a number of other folks around who are much more experienced with them generally!

He’ll be ok, last test while lower than preshot is still boron meter variance, albeit no food bump again this cycle. you can still leave him more HC as you go if you are concerned that the MC isn’t doing enough. Can you get an out the door test or 20-30 minutes from the current MC snack to see where he is at? Last resort he can have his fave contraband.

tried a little Hc he wasnt having it lol which concerns me, because if i need HC and he wont eat it 😩

Getting another test in a few, hes currently eating a handful of his “crunchies” aka contraband lol

Excellent, good job Vanessa. So still flat, glad you got the test in. Since you are currently following SLGS and he’s earned his reduction he’s got nothing left to prove. If you need to leave, you can also crumble a few pieces of his contraband on top of his usual food and leave plenty out for him. Cheeky Bear must have known we were talking about him.

Thanks Allie!
I saw this earlier and wanted to come back to it once we got this little attention-loving kitty in the clear lol

I did join the FB group and started watching the videos, then life got busy etc but i need to pick it up again so we can get him started soon hopefully 🤞
I will probably be asking more questions once my head is back in the libre game lol

I still owe you some thoughts/summary about TR but given current shenanigans, let’s have the dust settle a bit. Go have a cat nap with that little turkey lol. And congrats on the reducie!
Yes one thing at a time, this kitty has been keeping us on our toes for sure.

its funny because i know hes sensitive to insulin.. and my vet kept insisting he needs 2 U 🙄 i think she wanted him on 3 to start, and after his ER trip she was really pushing for 2, 1 at the minimum..

But thats where “know thy kitty” comes in right! If it wasn’t for the group, hed been on hc prescription food and 3 units of caninsulin.. and not bashing anyones protocols at all, just from what we’ve seen with him it would have been a mess, lol glad to have found it 🙏

I meant to ask, and I could probably go back but I don’t remember if I saw it, I know about the low potassium, but were other electrolytes out of whack when you went to emerg? You had noted trace ketones and usually with above trace it’s cause for concern, but then I saw at the emerg no ketones, which is great. Just wondering if the vet had any thoughts on the cause for electrolyte imbalance and/or just the low potassium?

It was just the low potassium! I think sodium had been low also.. but it was when his appy was poorly due to the potassium. Everything came up at the ER, potassium was still on the lower end but almost normal. So hopefully his supplement has brought that into the normal range.
I can attach his labs, i need to figure out how to put it on his sheet

Labs- last one is post IV treatment
