Good morning!
AMPS 85 shooting 1.0u

I just don't know what to do with my boy. I had to give another mirtz. last night at +3. It seems that he wants to eat....he stands where his dishes are and waits and he was even shaking his tail like he used to at meal time. But then nothing pleases him. Wouldn't even eat from the spoon, with fortiflora on it, or with tuna mixed in, although he did eat a bit when I put a spoonful of tuna juice in his food. He barely ate enough at PMPS to give him his shot and he hadn't eaten since before +8, so he definitely should have been hungry. I have about 20 different foods in my cupboard right now and none please him. I don't think he is nauseous although he does lick his lips but he does that when he's hungry too. I actually saw him take a small drink of water yesterday and I haven't seen that since before he was diagnosed 5.5 years ago.

He ate a small breakfast, with fortiflora on it and most of it was fed to him.
This inappetence has been going on for about 5 weeks now. Happened just as his BG dropped into continuous good numbers. I know appetite is lower when numbers are lower but he is a 16 lb cat! Monitoring his weight, was steady at 16.6, today was 16.4.

We've been continuing the bupre. .2ml twice a day. He is walking/jumping better. I don't know whether the pancreatitis ever bothered him so I also don't know whether the bupre. has helped or whether the .2ml isn't enough to help with the pancreatitis.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Today on the agenda.....cake smash session at 2:00 (+7) so I have to get ready for it.

Today's photo is the female Bald Eagle at our river. She was obviously looking for her male friend two days ago, was calling out to him and searching the land for him. A friend of mine witnessed her being attacked by another bird of prey (which he believes might be a Golden Eagle) soon after. She fought him off....I hope the male Bald Eagle is ok.

Good morning Judy!! Sorry to hear about the so so appy. I know when Charlotte would do this, I’d give her some sqfluids and cerenia. It seemed to do the trick for her. The cerenia although labeled for anti nausea has also been found to help with inflammation in some of these cats. I think it’s worth a try. Could you do the fluids?? I’ve also found that the lip smacking has been seen with nauseous animals.

I've done fluids with 2 other cats, not sure I could with Boomer but if necessary we'll certainly give it a try.

Judy --

I wouldn't give fluids without talking to your vet. If there is any underlying cardiac issue, fluids can be a big problem. There's a relatively new blood test that would make sure there's nothing cardiac -- it's called a proBNP.

It really sounds like Boomer is nauseated. Either Cerenia or ondansetron (or both -- they work differently) might be helpful. Again, it's a vet visit since they are prescription meds.

some days Bella does the same thing about eating, he eats just a little and I chase him around and keep offering, then he eats more
Have a great day Judy and Boomer please eat for mom!

I’m assuming the bup was RX for pancreatitis? If you don’t think he’s having any pain, I’d stop it and see if his appy improves.
Well, Dr Larry didn't give the bupre until I asked for it at the suggestion of people here who thought that the pancreatitis might be causing Boomer discomfort. I really don't know whether he ever had any pain from pancreatitis. But he is walking easier since starting the bupre....I've actually seen him running a few times and he's not hesitating to jump like he was.

I've emailed Dr Larry; waiting for a response.
I do have some cerenia left over from our civvie Allen.
Perhaps I should give a cerenia now? AMPS was 2 hours ago, I would normally feed at +3. He didn't eat much at AMPS (I spoon fed him).

I gave a cerenia around +2.25.
And yes just what I need on a busy day with a cat that doesn't want to eat....+3 45
Normally he would lick syrup off a spoon. Today...no. I had to scoop it with my finger and put it in his mouth.
And he turned his nose up at higher carb food but with some tuna juice and a bit of tuna added, I managed to get some food into him.

Olive had the proBNP done soon after she got here because of her noisy breathing and it was negative, so thought we were clear cardiac wise. Couple weeks later during ultrasound, galloping heart detected which led to echo and dx with HCM. So I'm not to sure what proBNP determines.

Well I can't say bupre has affected Ollie's appy. She is an eating machine 98% of the time.

others say to decrease bupre, my 1st thought is to increase to every 8 hrs and see if that makes a difference in activity and feeling better. If it does you know it's discomfort and it's needed yet.

What about different stimulant such as cipro (sp ??)

Isn't that odd - he's finally eating a different FF now?

At least he's not losing weight...I sure hope it's just finicky cat syndrome and nothing serious Judy.

The eagle is beautiful! I sure hope the male returns soon - perhaps he's just out hunting?

Hope things settle down for you today - and you can explain 'cake smashing session' when you have a chance...

+6 72
He took a couple of small nibbles of the remaining food from +5 then stood there looking at me....so I gave him a spoonful of a different ff and he's eating some of it now. And his dish has been raised. So maybe he was nauseous? idk, time will tell I guess.

I am just going to throw out some suggestions..
Have you tried warming the food? Sometimes warming will make it more aromatic (if congested)
- will he stay in the bathroom with you while you take a shower? The steam might help and be worth a try if you think he may be congested.
Have you tried smashed up freeze dry treats on top or mixed in with the food? Specifically the Purebites duck (both Gizmo and Frankie love these).
Have you tried CBD? It did seem to help with Gizmo's appy. (Can you get it in Canada?)
What is Boomers Phos level? If high it can make them feel yucky and nauseous.
Have you had a full CBC done? Gizmo's anemia caused inappititence.
Have you tired a novel protein? Try some rabbit or venison or duck. Maybe he just needs a complete change of flavor. Or maybe raw?

You might see if doc will give you Ondan as well as Cerenia. I gave Gizmo both but one may work better than the other - or you may need both. There are other options for appy enhancement meds other than Mirtz. Zyrtec is one of them (OTC here in the states - I can find the dosing if you are interested), With Mirtz I used just a sliver every day with Gizmo's nausea meds - literally a sliver off a pill - but dosed daily. It seemed not to be as sever a reaction to it but kept him eating.

My heart aches for you. This is such a difficult issue. I truly believe they pick up on our stress about it too.

I hope you can figure out what is going on. If he's congested maybe Zyrtec will help. I don't know if you can get that in Canada though. I give my civvie Baby 1/4 of a 10mg tablet up to twice a day. She has allergies. Sending prayers.

So Dr Larry said we could give him fluids. DH and I are not feeling very confident about this so I've asked a vet assistant (she helped us with Allen) to come over tomorrow to help.
He has eaten some this afternoon (cerenia was given around +2.25). I poached him some chicken and he wanted some of it so he had a few small pieces. He did drink a bit of "chicken soup".

Hi Judy, I hope you can figure out what is going on with Boomer. Here's the link to the Liver Shake. Seems like you've tried everything else. Maybe he'll like the liver shake.

What a great photo!
We had blizzard-like conditions today and the only birds at my feeders were 2 hardy Chickadees.

Have you asked Dr Larry about cypro as an appetite stimulant? Some cats do better with mirtz; some do better with cypro. It could be worth trying it. Does Boomer actually seem dehydrated? If not, I would be cautious about giving fluids. Over hydration can also cause issues. All sorts of appy vines and prayers....
