Morning everyone! I wish I knew what was going on with Mannie... This is the 7th cycle on this dose, and except for the first two we have had no blues, no greens. We are on day 28 of this pen, maybe I need to start a new one, maybe this one has petered out? I've had issues with it from the get go - bubbles in the pen, uneven draws, just a royal pain. Of course this is a very busy week, and when to start a new one. I suppose I just need to bite the bullet, and deal with lower numbers (one hopes) and busy days. Do know that I really don't like the numbers we are seeing....

Today is also vet day for Mannie. In petting him yesterday I found a small lump on his back, in between the shoulders blades that I want them to look at. It is where he gets his injections - I am guessing that this is related to 2.5 years of injections there, but I thought it best to have to looked at. He will not be happy. :roll: poor guy.... Appt is at his +6.5.

Bean also overslept this AM, and despite the delay in breffis Mannie was patient with testing, shooting, feeding, petting. Maybe he's tired of these pink numbers too. :lol: The other two however let me know I was messing up on the job- read the riot act by those two. :o Mannie's been cuddly this morning - that is always nice. He was there to supervise my getting ready. I got a leg rub when I was done - guess I did OK. He's off to nap in the nanners, and under the tree. Funny - he's been alternating between the nanners and the tree: a few minutes there, a few minutes here.

KITCHEN KREW~: You guys ROCK! Awesome job last night - it was such fun. I so love the clam bakes... it has be be part of out party menu, yes? Such a busy day yesterday, and I had such fun. What's up today? A day of rest? I think my bean whispered the word vetty... :shock: :shock: nooooooooooooooo! i hope I didn't hear that. See you guys! ~~ Mannie

FWIW, Rocket has scaring at the back too but not from the insulin shots but rather from his subq fluids (over 2 1/2 yrs now)....so i gotta find new spots all the time as the needle doesn't go in at all....Mannie may have scar tissue as well but it is good you are having that looked at!

I hope the lumps aren't anything, Michelle, hopefully just have something to do with the injection sites. Sending some good strong vettie bean vines to Mannie. I don't understand what is going on with Mannie either. Those pinkus numbers certainly are stinkusing. I hope that somewhere along the line, Mannie gives you better numbers.

Hey Mannie, Master Chef! I'm thinking of you today when you go to visit the vetty bean. Don't get stressed, man! Knowledge is power! I'll be over later with the KTSS to help you get the vetty smell out of your fur. That was the best clambake party last night. Bid will remember all those great foods when he's at the Falls.

Michelle, Good luck today with the vet appointment. Lots of people have had the same issue with scar tissue causing bumps. I'm sure that your vet will give Mannie a clean bill of health. If you have been having problems with this cartridge of Lantus right from the start, then it is certainly time to start a new one. The boy needs to get outta those pinks!

Hi Claudia - thanks for the vet wishes. He just hates to go there. It's funny though - as much fussing as there is on the trip, he is so good when he is there. I hope it is just scar tissue, etc. He's been getting his injections in this area for over two and half years, one would expect scaring, thickening, etc. Guess we will find out this morning.

Hi Deb - thanks - I am a little perplexed with his numbers. He was doing really well, and we seem to be slipping away from that. I get a really good day, and then several that are just so so. ??? I dunno. well will try a new pen , see if that's it, and if not - up on the dose, again. He seems healthy other wise, so????? perplexed perplexed perplexed.....

Mannie..we bof need KTSS to gets the vetty smell off us cause I gots to go to the NRT vetty today but she doesn't poke and prod me so dat's nice...I worry more fer you because they gonna wanta to poke and prod you....so undignified. You did WONDERFUL last night...you da best Chef ever...it is my privilege to work wif you and Sous Chef Tess and Apprentice Rusty! Let's rest today!

Morning Ella! Thanks for the info. I believe you are right. It is an opportunity to also have his teeth looked at, maybe do another blood panel as it's been several months since his last one, and also discuss what to do with his sister who is still having issues with sensitivity and allergies (a minor relapse there). I think you are right also on the pen. I will start a new one tonight. and yes - way too many pinks - he should be doing better than he is.

Hi Marjorie! Morning! Thanks... Worried a little, yes. Just don't quite understand what is going on with him. Hopefully it is just the need for a new pen... paws crossed. As I wrote on Ella's post, I may have them do some BW - it's been a while since I have had his done, just to see where he is at, and rule out anything else. Will see what the vet says. I read your post last night on Gracie, meant to answer it, but my brain wouldn't couldn't put together cohesive thoughts. I hope you got some input back.

Gracie - oh noooooooooo! Not you too? The vetty bean??? We will both need the spa treatment! ok on the major rest stuff - I have snacks ready for us. I agree - a major good party last night! WOOT! ~ Mannie

Good luck with the vet visit today, and wishing for a great visit with him/her.

It may be that the pen is petering out. I've had that happen to me with the vial, and thankfully, there was only a shot and a smidge left in the bottom of the bottle. So, it wasn't a terrible waste of insulin (made me feel better as I hate wasting things LOL).

Just peeping in, then back to the mud! Good luck at the vet and w/ the new pen. Tess has a thickening where she gets her shots too and I've been tols it is just scarring. I try to vary the site more now.

Mannie, KTSS is ready! I got the Furrari all polished, we'll get Gracie and have a double treatment at your place. Then blow dry you fur w/ the top down after! -- Tess

The pen could be the culprit here, it has happened to us so many times! Great numbers like he was having dont just go up so quickly, except when the pen poops out!

Hey Mannie and Michelle, hope you guys have a good visit with the vet and everything checks out ok!!!

I know what you mean on the pen...I was just writing in my condo how I'm a few days over 30 and wondering if its pooping out or if Lightning is just doing what he always does with his 3 day bounces. It always seems to happen at the same time and throws a wrench in my FD mindset!!

we're backkkkkkkkk.... :-D OK - I love this. I took his BG before I went out the door: 97. I took it again when we walked in the door: 60 :shock: :shock: :shock: what kitty goes to the vet, is as stressed out as he was the 40 minutes we were there, and comes home to post a 60. whoa.....

He did well - didn't want to have a thing to do with them, and spent those 40 minutes hollering, legs flying everywhere, trying every which way he could think of to get back in his carrier. Poor Guy! Even the head buried in the crook of my arm did not calm the savage beast. Funny though - when he had to go to "the back room" for the aspiration, and the blood draw he was as good as gold. go figure... :shock:

exam results: it appears to be a fatty cyst. They did a lump aspirate: removed two samples by needle and examined them there. There is no indication of sarcoma, tumor, no sign of cancer cells, etc. He does need another dental (oh carp!), so we will do that in January (mom's pocket book needs a break...). At the time of the dental, we may opt to have the cyst removed, possible biopsy to confirm for certain that it is indeed a fatty cyst. So all in all - a successful visit. I was unable to see our regular vet as she was still in surgery. I did like the other vet in the office: personable, knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly. She seems to understand diabetes well, and asked alot of questions about what I do with Mannie as far as FD goes. What a pleasant surprise that was! :-D

FRIENDS - HELPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nailbite_smile I smell so bad!!! :-x They poked me in places no kitty should be poked, and took my blood too! :sad: MY BLOOD is missing!!! :shock: :shock: And they came at me with this really ugly needle thingie and took part of my body!!! :shock: :shock: :shock: They sucked it out - WHAT????? and then they tell my bean I hafta get my toothies cleaned - again. :o :o noooooooooooooooooooo! I showed them - I peed on everything. :twisted: I am home now in search of those niptinis I made. I could drink the whole pitcher. so come and see me - I need my friends! Oh oh! here she comes again with one of those pokie thingies. shesshhhhhhh ! ~~ Mannie

58 @ +8, fed 18%, and will test again @ +8.5. (the 60 was also fed with 18%)

forgot to mention - it appears that somewhere along the line we neglected to give him his FVRCP booster vaccination when it was due last summer- so that was given today as well.

Hi Ele - me too! well bummer on the dental - but I've known ever since he was diagnosed with FD that he is at least a once a year, possibly oven twice, dental certainty. darn FD! he used to have the best teeth - never ever needed dentals until FD came along.

Hi Karrie - THANKS! i know - wish I could read their minds. I was so glad to hear her questions on home testing, and how I manage him - no lectures, nothing - just took it all in, was very receptive to how I was managing this. Wanted to know how I fed, what I fed, his levels, everything. I was impressed!

Hi Linda - I didn't even have to ask for a needle aspirate - it is what she wanted to do. so - score! It is a relief - such a relief! You just want to crawl in a hole when they start talking sarcoma, tumor, etc... At least she laid all the possibilities on the line.

So glad to here about the visit and the minibiopsy results. Whew...fatty cyst...now how did that happen?

Go enjoy that hike to the shore...I'm off to prep the lodge. We have a heat wave this evening of 20F.

You might want to check with your vet to see if they do the "February is dental month" special.

Michelle & Mannie, So Happy it's just a fatty thingy!! Moonie has one that's like a pea since she was a little sprout!--All vets have seen & touched it-to Moonie's dismay! grumpy_cat
And I just knew the pen was the culprit--With the pen, it's so easy & handles so nicely, I barely remember how long I've been using it!!
Once I used one for 40 days before someone here reminded me!!
As for the dental, Just a fact of life--Cat teeth just arent the strongest--Until they get a nanner for a gift!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Great numbers today Mannie! :mrgreen: Sounds like a dental is planned for you boy....you will feel much better after its all over. But, plenty of time to enjoy before January. glad they aspirated the lump then and there Michelle...sounds good. What a relief so far! Great job!

170 at PMPS. What a day for the Manster. Not a bad PMPS either. I did get a +11 - a 126 - for safety and sanity sake in case he had a green PS #.

We have one happy kitty this evening. Very active, very hungry, very vocal. The needs, aka FOOD, have been met, so he's off to nap under the tree.

Hi Pat - I was glad that they could do it all there too. I liked this vet - very thorough - even asked me if I wanted to be present for the aspiration. :shock: uh no - that's OK... Mannie would do better with out me there anyways. And yes - what a relief!

Hi Roni! I wonder how long Mannie has had his - it's hard to find it most of the time: he has to be sitting just right with his shoulders just so to even feel the thing. it's OK on the dental - I've more or less resigned to the fact that he will always need them, at least once a year.

Hi Ronnie - missed your post! aiyee! i know on the dental sale thing! I got lucky - they are doing them in January too - nice % off the total. YAY!

I still can't believe I got the numbers I got today with all the stress going on. unreal. YAY!!! :-D

The fatty cyst is also known as a benign fatty lipoma. Emily has a long history of these. She has 5 or 6 large ones on her trunk, and some other lump stuff happening.

Yea on the good vet report. Such a relief! I need to check if my vet does the dental month discount as Tess usually needs on e once a year too. 60 after the vet huh, silly kitties, you never know what they will do.

Hi Ann - so true... what was so funny was that she called a few minutes ago, left this message that his BW was all good, but she was really worried cuz his BG was at 59. :lol: :lol: :lol: and then she says - oh, I guess that's OK cuz you test alot, but I'm a little concerned because that's really low. I truly believe that vets are not used to seeing numbers like these. I'm rejoicing, and she's worried... :lol: :lol:
