What was your worst holiday gift? The best?

I don't have any particular gift that was the best one🤔 The worst one was the paper plates and paper napkins and a dress up doll given by a then-friend. We were both just out of college. I'm still not sure what her thought process in picking out those gifts were other than being a broke college grad.

A used, very expired box of tea. 🤣🤣 it wasn't for me but my db. Mine might be the motor oil he got me one year. 🤦‍♀️
 
When I was a kid, I loved video games (still do) but we were pretty broke...

I got my cousin's super nintendo when he got a playstation 1, and I asked everyone for Adventure games and RPGS.

my grandma got me, at full price which was like 60$ back then, the wizard of oz super nintendo cartridge....
It is regarded by retro gamers as THE WORST SNES game ever made and even the anrgy video game nerd made a video about it hahaha

But hey, my grandma gave it a shot, and bought me a video game, it's still a nice memory from childhood :)

The worst (but hilariously so) present I can remember was the big, chunky pink bottle of perfume I was given by a very well-meaning four-year-old cousin. It was so thoroughly not me (any perfume or any uber-feminine item in general would be a rather tone-deaf choice for me, and this was just such an egregious, almost cartoonish item in its bright pink glory), but of course she was just a little kid and clearly wanted to give me something she thought was nice! I wonder if she remembers that ... she's twelve now and very easily embarrassed. Hmmm.

Best is harder, honestly. Lots of sweet, thoughtful things, but nothing standing out to me at this moment.
 
Can my best gift also be my worst? When I was probably around twelve, I received a pair of VERY cool knee-high boots from my parents (see the image for an example of what they looked like). They were made out of this material (this was many years ago) that was kind of shiny and crinkly and stretchy around the calves. So, that year, we opened our gifts with my mom's extended family, and all of my adult aunties decided they liked my boots so much that they wanted to try them on, even though they had to squeeze their feet into them. And they kept them on and wore them around the house. And they ended up stretching them out so much that when I put them on my teeny little legs the calves of the boots just sunk to my ankles. I was never able to wear those boots once.

My mother bought me a couple of the large Elf Quest books one year. But since she was afraid I'd find them, she his them in the attic. She hid them so well, I never got them. :(

I think the nicest and most thoughtful gift I've received was the self care box a manager gave me one year🤗. There was a throw blanket, a candle, a soap set, and a few other things in the box.

My family doesn't really celebrate Christmas. We got gifts as kids but we always knew what we were getting because our parents would take us shopping the weekend before Christmas and tell us to pick what we wanted so we did and what we picked out was exactly what we got on Christmas 🫤 Relatives mostly gave us money, maybe clothes or a game / toy.
 
The worst Christmas gift was Nestle's diabetes diagnosis (Dec 15 2021) and the best Christmas gift is Nestle's remission achieved just few days ago (Dec 11 2025). So it's like we came full circle and the worst gift turned into the best gift.
When it comes to material stuff I'd have to think about it since I'm not a materialistic girl. If I think of anything I'll get back to this condo.
 
The best gift I received was when we drove to pick up a Boston Terrier puppy I named Bacon when I was young. It was also one of the extremely rare instances of a day with snow here in New Orleans, so a double gift.

Speaking of unusual snow, we actually had almost a foot of snow earlier this year, which I never thought I would see this far south.

For Xander, the best gift he ever received was the fuzzy grey blanket on the couch that you'll see in many pictures that was gifted one year from my boss. Xander decided to make it his.
