How are you faring on the pilling front? I'm thinking of what Wendy said about oral Ondansetron working better with cats.

Found a solution to the phos binder problem?

Pilling is still a problem. I gave him an Ondansetron 4 mg. oral with his pmps meal, fed a snack +5.5 and he still threw up between +5.5 & +9. And the phosphate binder issue is still in question.

Yup. The pink is the high before he breaks a bounce. Looks like he might give you the day off though. Hopefully.
No day off so far. He's back down to 82 @ +4.5. Fed some FF3% plus Squeeze-up and slipped him his 2.5mg Famotidine pill. What has worked the best so far in pilling is to wrap some regular food around the gelcap and coat it all in Squeeze-up before popping it in his mouth. He still fights it and sometimes spits it out. Today I think it went down. May find it later among the bedding. :blackeye: I also feed a few more bites and let him lick some Squeeze-up off his spoon after the pill goes down. And wash it all down with a syringe or two full of water which he has taken to like it is some kind of treat. To an always thirsty kitty, I guess it is.

Still haven't figured out the overnight puke. It was a darker brown than usual and full of kibble and LC wet. Best I can determine from the cam in his room, it happened 30 minutes or more after he ate his +6 snack. He had oral Ondansetron @ PMPS. He seemed to wander around in his room, used his litter box, and was maybe listening for me to come. I was dead asleep. I usually wake up when I hear him throwing up but I didn't find it until +9 when I went in to test and give a last snack before the 2 hour no-feed window. He was hungry then, down to 99, and has eaten pretty well since then. He's been sleeping since AMPS. Guess staying up half the night tires you out. ;)

Hi Gina I was reading that you are having trouble with Bama Kitty and the Epakitin binder. Here is a site I came across about it
http://www.zzcat.com/CRF/supplies/binders.htm
Go to where it says
Calcium Based Phosphorus Binders

Calcium-based binders such as Phos-Lo and Tums are readily available and inexpensive. But they're not as effective as the aluminum hydroxide binders, they require large doses and they are not as safe. There is the fear that supplementing calcium in a CRF cat can lead to serious problems such as hypercalcemia, soft tissue calcification, etc. These products are mentioned for completeness -- with the exception of Epatikin (see below), I haven't heard from anyone who's actually using a calcium-based binder.

Epakitin/Ipakitine

When Tyler's brother Perry had Kidney Disease I used Aluminum Hydroxide
14840-14-phos-bind-aluminum-hydroxide-for-cats-and-dogs-otc.jpg

It was tasteless, I even put it on his dry Hills K/D food, that's all he would eat is the dry and sometimes baby food. I would just put the dry food in a baggie and shake it around until it coated it, I let it sit for about an hour . My vet happened to always have it in stock.
Perry lasted a pretty long time until I had to let him GI.
I'm so sorry Bama has CKD , I just thought I would mention this one to you.:bighug::bighug::cat:
Have you tried any of the Weruva wet food
Epakitin is not as effective as Aluminum Hydroxide powder at bringing the phosphorus down,

You want carbs under 10% and phosphorus ideally low 200's or less.

Here us another thread I found that Janet NJ listed Weruva foods

Thanks @Diane Tyler's Mom and @Suzanne & Darcy. When I mentioned phosphate binders over the phone to the vet, I had not researched them and so went with what she had. Like many things with the vets, I often have to second guess them or their recommendations later.

Had to go out for an hour and a half and just got back. Leaving Bama still @ 73 @ 7.5, I decided to leave food out. Left out nearly half a can of FF3% along with a few no-no treats and came back to find the bowl practically licked clean. Maybe a half teaspoon of FF smushed up into the curve of the bowl. :D Guess he was tired of me coming in and waking him every hour and a half or so and feeding him a spoonful so he decided he'd eat up what was left. Still couple hours or so until pre-shot so maybe he'll be hungry again.

There's really nothing wrong with Epakitin (as long as your cat will eat it and unless your cat has high calcium), although it's been described to me as a "pea shooter" of phosphorus binders and the aluminum hydroxide as a "the big gun" of binders (constipating though!!) A combo of lower phosphorus food and maybe Niacinamide could work. It's all about what he will eat though! I hope you are having a good day, Gina.

Success, of sorts. I got Bama to eat pumpkin laced with Epakitin after his pmps meal, part of which resembled the food fight scene in the movie, Animal House. Since I have taken to scooping up some of his regular food in my fingers and covering his gelcap with Ondansetron hiding inside and poking it in his mouth, things get a little messy. The pill did go down, I believe, after several attempts. We are both wiped out after the battle. He ate well. I was afraid he wouldn't after feasting so this afternoon. Hoping for a gentle cycle tonight. Unlikely, though, if history repeats. He'll likely be taking a dip in the lagoon shortly. Will get a +1 to see where he is headed.
