Sadly today is her first no green day in over 2 weeks, back on her last day at 5.75u. Today also marks 2 weeks since convenia injection. So I’m fearing we now have this “touch of stomatitis” brewing as a layer of complication with no good solution.

I bought antiseptic wipes to wipe her teeth but that will take some getting used to, and no guarantee they will help. Did it for first time tonite, not very well but at least got some areas wiped.

She had all 0 and 1% food today with just a bit of 2%, so there’s not much room to go even lower carb. She only got a green yesterday b/c of the lantus tail / IAA release in AM cycle, big drop quickly at end of cycle. She was headed that same way today but I intervened to try to flatten it with a tbsp of 1% at +9.5.

I guess we’ll see if things get better but it sure looks like we’re going to have to increase again if we stay on this course.

If Wendy sees this and has guidance on the whole IAA and coupling with the potential stomatitis, I would appreciate it. I’m really scared this combination is a death sentence or at least a really bad nightmare. I can see the red line along upper gumline despite just having dental at end of september. The gum area where teeth were ground down and gingival flap done look fine.

So I was just reading that cyclosporine can address auto immune aspect of stomatitis and its not a steroid like prednisolone which is problematic for diabetics.

Anyone ever used cyclosporine?

It also looks like doxycycline can potentially be used long term to help reduce bacterial load, plus it has some anti inflammatory properties.

Just thinking out loud. Appreciate feedback and thoughts and will plan to take her back into vet next week.

Sorry to hear about the gum and tooth situation, Laura. It’s always something we are trying to figure out 🫂

I hope the tooth wipes help and you can tweak a good dose💖
Minner is so lucky to have such a devoted mama 🥰

Sorry to hear about the gum situation, I worry a lot about Bell's teeth too. I've made an effort to brush them almost every day, so not sure if that is helping but we'll see what my vet thinks the next checkup.

I'd be curious what an more experienced person thinks about the dosage. She did hit that 60 a few cycles back, so might be worth waiting a few more to see if she can repeat, but if no joy, I'd be itching for an increase.

Jude too, Laura. "Mild stomatitis" one vet recently wrote in Jude's chart. Jude's regular vet just said, "he needs his teeth cleaned again," and didn't use the "stomatitis" word. I just don't understand the whole situation--does a dental actually help? We're having our second dental of the year on Friday. Anti-inflammatory ANYTHING is something I'm definitely interested in for all the reasons, dental and FIC combined. Have you talked to the doctor about any of these possible remedies? Jude's vet said he was open to giving Jude NSAIDs short term (Jude doesn't have any kidney/liver issues). As Staci said, it's always something 😣

I spy a green AMPS. Cats are allowed an off day once in a while. Break out the patience pants.

Sorry, I don't know about stomatitis and IAA. But can point you to a thread called IAA - Ruminations - join the conversation in the Think Tank Forum. Sandy and Black Kitty was the first IAA kitty diagnosed on FDMB. Getting teeth problems fixed let to him eventually going OTJ.

Thx Seth. Agree. I think that 60 is the IAA release combined w/ Lantus tail, a big plunge at end of cycle. I counteracted it the next AM cycle w/ a snack at +9.5. But it happened again in the following PM cycle as I last tested at +5.5 and she was rising to 147 so I didn’t test anymore and slept! Boom — 81 amps for 12/2. I think I recall that you have seen this bg behavior at times in past with Bell.

I wish Minner would let me work on her mouth/teeth a bit more. Love hearing you are able to brush Bell’s teeth regularly. I’m hoping that with some persistsnce Minner will tolerate it more. I think her gums could be too sensitive for brushing right now so will try to do best I can with wipes initially and see if it helps, potentially convert to using a brush.

Thanks Mary. I’m planning to get her back to vet next week to have the discussion since she seems to be wearing down this last increase as it won’t tolerate even 3% carbs anymore, and her gumline definitely has that red line. I’ll share what transpires.

Yes! That 81 surprised me. She’s doing end of cycle dives, but then heading right back up after eating post shot. I’m going to very LC now as a response since even 3% seems to drive her up too much. Will see if we can get more mileage out of this dose by sticking mainly to 0 & 1% carbs. She will miss her beloved 3% FF beef pate.
