11-5 TYLER. UPDATE TYLER IS IMPROVING SO FAR

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( I’m so sorry…. I know for Jack, eating Tiki Cat over time stopped his crystals - hasn’t had them for years - but it sounds like being able to give him that time is your problem. I do see on your signature that he also eats FF pate - believe me I’ve started incorporating that into Jack’s diet too due to cost, but I think I did read somewhere that it tends to be higher in minerals. Has he been still eating that since the last ER trip? He could just be clearing out existing clumps of crystals too. I understand about the cost… I just wish you could try one more unblockage first, just in case that did it… I’m so sorry Diane.

He's been eating Tiki Cat since around Oct, before that was FF

Hi Diane, here's hoping the vet can unblock him without too much effort and expense :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Please keep us informed!
Hi Bhooma I don't think so my sister paid the 1288.00 for me this Wed, I can't ask her for anymore other than the fee to out him to sleep
It's killing me because he's eating, purring, being lovey, I feel like I'm going to out him to sleep for no reason. Working so hard for remission just kills me

Okay… I would hope he’d be getting better…well, from my experience. :( I’m not an expert, Jackson is the only cat we’ve had with a crystal problem.

Can the non-ER vet unblock him for less $$ ? I HATE to see him lost when he’s being as you describe.

I hate to see him lost also because of the way he's acting, but I can't ask my sister to charge it in her credit card again. I'm paying her back now little by little which isn't much

I don’t know your relationship with your sister, or hers with cats, but it’s his life… it may be worth asking. Believe me, my credit is now sunk too. I had just got it up to a decent enough level that I was approved for CareCredit to pay for Jackson’s hospital stay, but I’m now $6000 further in debt and my score has tanked again. I get it. But you’ve come this far, it’s worth trying if there is any way. At least call the local vet and see if there is anything they can do to clear his urethra…

I Can't even see what I'm typing because I'm crying so much you all know I had Tyler at the ER on Wed he was blocked , I couldn't Afford to keep him there for 3 days so they unblocked him sent me home with meds . He did start peeing on Thurs afternoon finally nice big clumps then they started to get much smaller.
Last night it started again in and out of the litter box ,nothing
This morning in and out of the litter box non stop. Not howling like he did the first time. My sister paid for the visit 1288.00. I just filed bankruptcy so I have no credit cards I could use.The petition was already filed
I guess there isn't anything I can do for him at home.
I just can't believe this happened again this fast.
I can go to the ER and have him put to sleep there , I'm waiting for my vet to open at 9 AM and see what they might be able to do for me.
First his brother Perry I had to put to sleep last Oct kidney failure and now Tyler
I'll even have to ask my sister for the money to put him to sleep.
My heart is just breaking , I'm shaking
I'll let everyone know what happens.
Tyler has been in remission since 1-24-21 and now this:(:(:(:(
Oh Diane i am so sorry. Know that i am thinking of you and lighting a candle for tyler

follow your gut on whats best for you and tyler and figure out the money etc… later. Even if its a go fund me acct… i would donate <3 hugs

Have you tried contacting Chris to see if DCIN will help you? It's worth a try maybe they can help. My thoughts & prayers are with you & Tyler :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sending lots of good thoughts for you and Tyler. I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this. I hope the vet can work with you to help get Tyler through this!

Oh, Diane, I am so sorry to read that!
Here in Minnesota you can go to the Humane Society or other vets who work for a lot less depending on your ressources, there might be something like that where you live? Maybe your vet knows, or would be able to help you and be paid later?
Whatever you decide, you love him and it will be out of love. I will keep you in my thoughts today :bighug:

I called the ER vet and they told me to bring him in they would not charge me for another ultra sound and to check his stomach
He was not blocked, stomach was soft, if I can sat this correctly because I was so upset they saw a little thickening of the wall
They told me to see if he pees or starts howling like he did before and bring him back
Well when I got home with him he peed , I would day a medium clump
Then peed again a little later
They told me to continue the meds and maybe it might take awhile to fully recover something like that .
He's eating good, grooming , pooping and tail is up

So I guess I'll see how it goes, I just can't put him down yet

Let's pray he keeps peeing
Thank you all for your well wishes for my boy :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
Love you all ♥

I'll talk to my vet on Monday

They gave me a list of foods and guess what it was from Dr Lisa Pierson's food list
I'm going to buy Purina Pro Plan Urinary Tract Health Chicken Entree
The carbs , magnesium and phosphorus look OK

The other choice was the UR savory selects in sauce turkey and giblets ,I know he won't like it because he wouldn't eat the FF pate turkey and giblet
This one you need a prescription for anyway
So I guess I'll see how it goes, I just can't put him down yet

The first one I listed says phos 0.20
Carbs 3.18
Magnesium 0.24
SUCH GOOD NEWS! Im so happy that the vet was able to work with you ( there are some very kind vets out there). Also, its so great that you kept your head and tackled one thing at a time. Way to go, not easy under emotional stress. Keep up the good work, and remember, his body may just do what his body wants to do. you are helping as much as you can, but remember you cant control all outcomes. Hugs to you both

How very stressful @Diane Tyler's Mom! I am so sorry you and Tyler are going through this. There is a very good FLUTD support group in FB you may want to join. They generally recommend d-mannose and corn silk extract to support urinary health to start with. Then prazosin and buprenorphine for persistent issues. If you have labs to share people can advise further based on the type of crystals.
I will be thinking of you and Tyler :bighug::bighug:

Oh my, I was bracing for the worst reading through this... I'm so glad they checked him again free of charge, what an awful situation to be in, my heart goes out to you. For the record, as others have mentioned, should you need him retreated or operated on, I'd happily donate to a go fund me :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you Kyle I'll look it up . He is taking prazosin , gabapentin and just finished Onisor .
They assumed they were struvite , they really couldn't tell.
They told me they were the most common ones
Other than that all his blood work was fine, plus I just had it done by my vet in Sept
I will definitely look at the Facebook group thanks so much

Aww thank you Virginie that's so kind of you.
I still have a headache from crying this morning.
Still looking up food then off to the store :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh good sounds like you are in the right track. I do think d-mannose is very helpful- I use it myself sometimes :) Best of luck to you and Tyler!

That ER vet was incredibly generous to help you at no charge. My faith in humanity is slightly restored! :joyful:

So glad they helped you and Tyler is still peeing!
There are some resources for medical care for cats that might help in the future:

Lexie’s Love will offer grants for non-urgent care that could help with some of his follow up care or surgery if he needs it (hopefully he won’t!).

Red Rover helps with emergency grants.

And go fund me, as others suggested!

Sending healing thoughts and hoping it’s smooth sailing for Tyler from here on out!!

I am so happy to hear that he is improving. It’s good to hear that the emergency vet helped you too. You don’t hear of that much now a days. Hope he continues to get better.:bighug:

THANK GOD!!! You don’t know how happy I am to hear that he’s okay, not blocked, and ALIVE! Now I’m crying. :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat::cat::smuggrin:

As for differences in the food lists, personally I’d go with whichever is more recent, because formulations can change in 5 years.

Diane, I am SO relieved to see this update (and yes, as Wendy said, my heart sank below my stomach when I first read the subject line). Thank God for compassionate vets.

My Chulo (GA) had a couple of incidents where he couldn’t pee but he also wasn’t blocked. Vet said it “just happens” sometimes for no reason that they know of, or maybe from stress. Wish I could remember the meds they gave but it was so long ago, probably some kind of anti-inflammatory to make him feel better, but anyway, it resolved after a couple of days, though it was agonizing to watch him go in and out of the box in the meantime.

I can help you set up a Go Fund Me page if you like. I’ve never done it before, but it can’t be that hard. Let me know if you would like to try.

:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Diane, I am just awake and reading this.I’m so glad Tyler is OK..
:bighug::bighug::bighug:
Hi Bron I just hope he keeps on peeing. I went and bought some cans of Purina Pro Plan Urinary Tract Health Chicken , he loves it .
Still peeing small to med clumps , he always peed huge clumps ,so hopefully I'll start seeing them. He's eating, grooming, tail is up, purring ,I'll just have to wait and see . He still has some of the meds to finish, the ER Vet I saw today told me to ask my vet if he wants me to get some more when I'm done with what they gave me because she said they might be cheaper than what they charged, I had to laugh to myself about my vet being cheaper , I'll call Monday. The owner that I know very well is away in Antarctica ( must be nice) I'm being sarcastic . I hope he comes back this week if not
I'll probably get the other owner who I sort of told off the other night, I know he probably can't stand me but too bad!
I'm just holding my breath that I don't hear Tyler start howling like he did on Wed
:bighug::bighug::bighug:

That actually made me just think of something. We’ve had cats go in and out of the litter box, tiny pees and sometimes nothing, when they were feeling their tissues irritated by for example a burgeoning urinary infection. Is it possible maybe he was responding to the lingering irritation of having been unblocked a couple days ago?

If that’s the case he may continue peeing smaller amounts at a time for a few days just because he’s “feeling the urge” more often. Just because of that lingering inflammation.

Yes, please change that subject line! It is giving us heart artacks.

If you get a chance, ask the vet to show you how to feel if the bladder is full. It’s easy to do if you know where to feel. If not full, then not an emergency.
Hi Wendy I'll change the subject line right now, I'm an idiot lol
I should have made the ER vet show me today, but hopefully if Tyler is OK next time I bring him in for his routine visit I'll make sure to ask :bighug::bighug::bighug:

@Karen and Chispa
Oh Karen that is so generous of you about the go fund me page ♥
I kind of feel funny doing that but if it comes to that I will reach out.
I don't know what I would have done if my sister didn't put the 1288.00 that night on her credit card. She has 2 cats herself
You all know I filed bankruptcy ,the petition was already filled or else I would have used mine. I never in my life thought I would have to do that.
It's just me and my daughter Ashley and you probably read or maybe not that she has a chronic pain disease for 18 years now and she's only 37. Never leaves the house only for doctor visits. My husband died in 2008.
I told my sister I'll give her something every month.
Probably take me forever to pay her .
I should be the one that is blocked with all the stress :p
Anyway just keeping my fingers crossed I don't hear any howling from him tonight.
He's sleeping right now.
They did give me meds 3 different ones ,he still has to finish them
If I need more I'll ask my vet .
Thank you again Karen. I need to check on all the kitties here, haven't had a chance yet.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

If you want to read about what Ashley has I told everyone about it on this post in case you are interested. I gave the link to read about it also

Plus my dad is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's it breaks my heart and makes me suck to my stomach when I see how he is. His birthday is on 11-7 ,I'll get him a birthday cake.
Most of the time he knows who we are me, my sister and my brother . Ashley went up twice which caused her a lot of pain but she adores him, He's her favorite first born grandchild.
He's always been like a father to her. She loves him so so much. When he passes she's going to really be in bad shape. He's in good health thank God.
He will be 89. They take verygood care of him.
We love the nursing home and everyone there knows us, we are constantly calling checking up in him. I go see him at least twice a week, then my sister and brother go on the other days.
When I see some of the other patients I get sick to my stomach for them.
Sometimes I'll sit with some of them and talk with them.
I'm just glad we found a good nursing home ,it's about a 35 minutes ride for me and my sister and 5 minutes for my brother.
We laid the law down right from the beginning with the nursing home lol
Don't mess with Italian's :p
Kidding aside they all love my dad
Well I chewed your ear off enough

I have to tell you Jackie all the ER vets were awesome! The vet techs were great! Everyone that worked there were so nice and compassionate.
I wish they saw pets on a regular basis .
Thank you for the info :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:

The ER vet just called me that I saw today to check in on Tyler. Now who ever does that. She is such a kind and caring person. She told me to keep her updated.
I told her Tyler did 2 nice pees , she was so happy.
I just want to thank all of you for your kind words and support ,it really means the world to me ,if anything changes I'll let you all know, hopefully those big pees keep coming . He did 2 nice big ones so far. I bought the Purina Pro Plan Urinary Tract Health chicken flavor and he loved it, licked his bowl clean .
Haven't tried the Beef and Chicken yet :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:

Hi everyone, yesterday morning Tyler started howling very loud.
Walking around with him tail down which he never does.
Back and forth in the litter box trying to pee but couldn't go and he also was howling.
I touched his belly and he howled and growled so I know something was wrong and he was in pain

I called the practice I go to and had to see another vet that was filling in for the day
Since the vet I used to see had left the practice.
When I had Tyler's blood work done in Sept I saw the owner who I know good, but he was away when I brought Tyler in yesterday

So I told the vet what was happening ,said he threw up once ,it was clear liquid ,told her about the howling and not peeing.
Feels his stomach, give me cerenia which was crazy, tells me an ultra sound would cist around 600.00 . From what I told her you would think that might think he was blocked
I left

So last night he got worse ,took him to the ER at around midnight
They were wonderful. Saw a vet told her everything she did an ultrasound ,it was like a mini machine ,said Hus bladder looked fine then looked at his penis it was purple and inflamed
Gave me 3 options keep him there for 3 days with the catheter in to unblock him about 4000.00
Or put a catheter in then and unblock him, I said OK
Did bloom work, it was all good, they hardly had to sedate him .
I saw like little pieces of sand coming out.
So I guess they were crystals
I know some of you don't like Onisor but she gave him an injection of it
Sent me home with 3 pills only
Gabapentin ,if I wanted buprenorphine she would give me that instead ,, I said no that's OK
Also gave me Prazosin

So now today he diet pee yet, in and out of litter box but not crying or howling at all
He was happy tail up , eating
I called the ER back and they said bring him in they wanted to feel his bladder
It felt soft and not that much urine in it something like that
Said if he didn't pee by tonight bring him back

Well he finally peed twice already thank god.
I was so irate about the other vet I saw and called and spoke to Dr Pla another one of the owners and told him how pissed off I was that the vet didn't even think he could be blocked by what I told her he was doing, not peeing and howling
I said why the hell did she give him a cerenia shot, I'm the dumb one that let her give it even though I knew he only threw up that once.
I asked why didn't she look at his penis
Of course he defended her and said well she offered to do an ultrasound and you said no. I said right for 600.00 . He said wrote that she knew he had pain but didn't know where it was coming from
I said to him look I think we should end this conversation now before I really say something you won't like!
I said you should give me my money back but we know that won't happen!
He said nothing and said to let him know how Tyler is doing, yeah right that might happen
Wait until the other owner gets back and I talk to him, he's in Antarctica now

He also told me you can't see crystals ,I said well I saw something
I think it's time to find another vet or just take Tyler there when Dr Beeber is there the other owner who I know good.

A question you all know I don't know much about anything lol
I started him on Tiki Cat Succulent Chicken because it's low phosphorus adding it to his FF Pate
Right now he's eating almost just the Tiki Cat
Started this around middle of Oct
Does anyone think changing the food could have caused him to get blocked?
I asked the ER vet today and she really didn't know
The only thing I read about it is that it's high protein

Poor Tyler went through hell last night and then again today because I had to take him back to the ER again, but thank God he finally peed.
I will be watching him like a hawk now
Got home at 2:30 AM last night .
Oh the bill came to 1288.00
I don't care if anyone knows but I had to file bankruptcy ,petition sent in so I don't have to pay any of the payments which is a big relief. Should be finalized by early Jan
My dear sister put it on her credit card and I'll pay her off monthly
I don't know what I would have done

Thanks for listening guys :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:

In case you need it for the future: Financial Help Links
It's so great to see that there are resources that can help. My offer to help set up a GoFundMe page is good anytime, though I see where it says that it would have to be approved by the Adminitrators. Totally understandable.
I should be the one that is blocked with all the stress :p
Now don't you stop peeing, Diane! Lol. You are doing so much for Ashley, your Dad, and Tyler, and you still find time to come here and lift everyone up with messages of encouragement. It's no wonder that people want to help.

Hope Tyler gets a good sleep tonight and wakes up feeling purrfect. And that goes double for you. :bighug::cat::bighug:
