I wish I had better news... but Doodle is not doing well.
His BG is HI - he's crouching... withdrawn... and sounds awful...
I want to be optimistic, but there's this dread that I can't seem to shake.
He's lost 2lbs in the last 2 months...

I'm giving him his insulin 3 times a day and meds twice a day and now his inhaler twice a day and fluids twice a day...
I think he has started to feel anxiety when he sees me coming - it makes me kind of sad.

I started him on Flovent on Wednesday night and of course it hasn't had time to do anything, so maybe next week things will be different.
I plan to take him to the vet this evening - just to have them check again...

I posted video's of him breathing on the health board - here's the link for anyone who's interested

Oh (((Michelle))) this breaks my heart. I am sending every vine and snowflake I have to (((Doodle))).

Is it for sure a lung issue? Is there any chance there is an obstruction in is nasal passages?

Please feeel better, Doodle. We love you.

Sending lots of feel better vibes for doodle ... I hope the vet check goes well .. try and have a good weekend guys ...

I don't know Linda. I keep thinking the same thing though.
This just doesn't sound like what I would think asthma sounds like -- but what do I know??
He saw his regular vet and then the cardiologist - and they both said lower respiratory disease.

Neither of the vets we normally see are in today, so I made an appointment for tomorrow morning.
DH's parents are coming tomorrow - which I can't say I'm very excited about. I hope it's not too stressful for him.

(((Michelle & Doodle))) I am so sorry that you two are going through this....glad you will be bringing him in tomorrow though. I am praying that the Flovent will start doing something. It doesn't sound like what I would think Asthma sounds like either...it's more like a nasal sound to me... I do hope the company on the weekend won't be too stressful for him....
my two always head for my closet when we have company s at least they are out of the way of things, but still, they seem to not like the change in their routines. I hope it will be okay and that he won't be stressed at all...
Sending healing vines to Doodle and tons of snowflakes for your boy....

Doodlebutt is one of my favorite kitties and you are one of my favorite beans...I so, so hope that he feels better soon. Lots of hugs for both of you.

So sorry to see Doodle not feeling well. I hope he feels better soon and the Vet can help tomorrow. I'm saying a prayer and sending positive thoughts to Doodle and you. Hang in there sweet Doodle.

I can't bring myself to listen/watch the video. But all my vines and snowflakes are being sent to you and Doodle.

And Michelle- all that treatment? he knows it's b/c you love him. he really does. The anxiety is you feeling bad about it, but you know you're doing it for his own good.

Please please please flovent... work your magic and make our doodle feel better!!

Michelle,Michelle, Michelle. I am at a loss for words. you know you guys are always in my prayers. watching the vid sure makes you question asthma. as you, WTH do I know but it sounds as though it is all in nasal passages to me. wheezer and twinkie sound like that on occasion too but no wheezing. my 2 also snort. any eye drainage?? they check for any kind of nasal tumor? only ask cause of kryscat (Kasha)and her cat started out with what appeared to be a URI.
tones of vibes and all that other stuff

a world of snowflakes and clear breathing for Doodle....

I had the same thought as Linda -- I wonder if an Xray would rule out an obstruction in the nasal passages.

You are both in my thoughts and I'm sending barrels of snowflakes and vines.

Just FYI: Kasha had x-rays on 24 August of this year (my birthday) AND exploratory surgery that day that showed no obstruction - but within 2 weeks, we had a CT scan and scope that showed a mass in her nasal passages which turned out to be lymphoma. The IM vet said it wouldn't show up on the x-ray because apparently some soft tissue tumors won't show up. The x-ray just gave us a false impression that there was no mass.

Doodle's breathing doesn't sound quite like Kasha's did, although it does sound like upper respiratory to me too. Kasha did sometimes make a high whistling noise or a crackle - she'd make a sound like a fingernail on the teeth of a comb - it was very odd. Before chemo, it would sound like she was sucking in air thru a tiny straw, given that there was only a tiny passage left in her nose for her to breathe thru. But there was NEVER a question of it being lower respiratory - the vets clearly heard that it was upper respiratory every time we checked.

I also heard weird breathing noises from Big Cat earlier this year - he would make a funny wheezing noise sometimes and it turned out that he had heart failure. All his bloodwork, etc. looked good but he lost a bunch of weight and started hiding. When we x-rayed his chest we found that his heart was so enlarged it was pressing on his esophagus and larynx - causing him to not eat and eventually make that wheezy sound.

I know that sounds dire and I'm sorry you're going thru this. I haven't been keeping up on the board and I'm not sure if you've had chest x-rays. But from my experience, the chest x-rays were invaluable but the x-rays of the nasal cavity were useless.

Sending healing vines and prayers for Doodle to feel better and breathe better. I'm so sorry you and Doodle are going through this. ((((((Michelle))))))

oh michelle :( he looks so thin in the video too. i felt so sad watching him. even dh said poor kitty :(

i'm way out of my league here, but it does sound upper respiratory to me. your vet appt is tomorrow? ask the vet is there's any hospital in your area that offers rhinoscopy. have you tried sending jess a pm re: the video?

((((((Michelle)))))) (((((((Doodle)))))

I'm sorry you are going through this. Doodle knows you love him and you are trying to help.

Aww Michelle. I'm so sorry. Doodle is a favorite of mine and I so hope for some encouraging signs very soon. Sending you lots of hugs and healing vines. ((((Michelle and Doodle))))))

he has some airway constriction, certainly. that warrants a chest x-ray and seems like they'd want a blood count, to rule out pneumonia and then he needs a peaceful hidey-hole where you can easily check on him while your company is there. an increased respiratory rate could get him into trouble, keep an eye on that.
watch his color. I sure wish his vet had been in today.

you guys have been on my mind all day long. we hold you close in our hearts and prayers. You'll be busy with company, but update us as you can.

We love you Michelle and Doodle.

Sending a blizzard of snowflakes to Doodles.

I hope he finds a nice quiet and peaceful place
to hang out, while your company is visiting.

Sending best of luck for the vet visit, tomorrow.

(((((((Michelle & Doodle))))))) Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers and continuing to send lots of healing vines and snowflakes to Doodle. I do so hope that the vet can tell you what is going on. I pray for a comfortable weekend for Doodle, with a minimum of stress for you both.

Thank you everyone. It's so helpful to be able to post here and know that people understand - and care...
he's breathing a bit better right now - not without effort...but better. And he's down to 232 for for his PM shot - so that's better.
I've posted on the Feline Asthma Relief board and am getting some help there as well.

Just to try an answer some questions -- yes I sent a PM to Jess and I'm sure she'll respond as soon as she sees it.
And yes I agree that it seems like something more than just asthma is going on.
He had thoracic x-rays done a week ago at the cardiologist (and an ECG and full bloodwork) - but maybe he needs x-rays or a scope of his head/throat to check for foreign objects, tumors, etc...
--- x-rays showed the lungs appearing hyper-inflated. And there was a mild bronchiolar pattern present consistent with chronic lower airway disease. The cardiac silhouette was within normal limits as well as the pulmonary vasculature. The aortic root was dialated.
He's had no eye drainage or other signs of a URI - no sneezing, no coughing.
Thank you for sharing your story with us Kryskat - I'm really sorry you had to go through it, but I appreciate the info very much.
I'll update tomorrow.
thanks again everyone.

sending lots of healing vines and snowflakes to you and doodle...
we'll hold you in our hearts..

(( Michelle )) I hope Doodle is more comfortable tonight. I thought it sounded a little like a head cold. Poor guy, I really feel for you both.
