Re: 11/4 Lucian AMPS 191

Is he still on the antibiotic? Wonder what was ailing him. So glad to see him come down. He'll be swimming with Autumn today while Alska is resting on the sundeck.

Re: 11/4 Lucian AMPS 191

He's still on it, but not long enough to make a difference. He started dropping the day I got them, before I had even given them. I almost didn't give them, but decided to be cautious and go ahead. Have come to the conclusion that his arthritis is causing him pain, not an underlying infection causing the increase in bg. But since he's only had antibiotics once in his life, about 7 yrs ago, guess it won't hurt to give them. As soon as the weather warmed up for a couple days, his numbers dropped.

So now I'm not using the fan at night so it doesn't get so cold in here and I bought him a 'snuggler' bed to help keep him warmer.

I also did the research and there is NOTHING you can get OTC that is safe to give a cat for pain. Everybody remember that! NOTHING! But I found that Imodium is safe for diarrhea, benedryl has no effect, dramamine is safe, ditto for Tagamet, Pepcid AC and Zantac. Gloucosamine w/without Chondroitin is safe at 500mg a day, which is what I may try, but those pills are HUGE. My dog was on them and aspirin for years for arthritis. Apparently there are prescription drugs like Meloxicam for cats pain, but they are just that, by script. They can take oxycodone too, but obviously not the human kind with aspirin or tylenol mixed in it.

Here's the NEVER LIST:
1. Aspirin
2. Tylenol
3. Advil/Ibuprophen
4. Pepto Bismol
5. Kaopectate

I'll check Putritan's Pride and a few other sites and see if I can find the Cloucosamine in a liquid maybe.

So there ya have, my latest cat research.

Re: 11/4 Lucian AMPS 191

Aw... poor Lucian. Alska suffers from Arthritis as well. His front legs shake. I have been giving him Cosequin for Cats as it was recommended with a link by someone here (now I am wondering if that's when his numbers started going up). Luckily it comes in a powder-filled capsule. Un-luckily, my idiot civvie Bing won't eat his raw unless he has some sprinkles on his as well. It has made him stronger going up and down the stairs. He beats me up the steps instead of following like he used to. I hope you can find something for Lucian. I guess you are not getting your snuggie back.

Re: 11/4 Lucian AMPS 191

Alska hopes Lucian can find some place warm and comfy to rest his weary bones...

Re: 11/4 Lucian AMPS 191

I think the thing with the new bed is lack of smell. Or new smell. I took the snuggie off the center and just laid it around the edges. He wasn't too sure about it, but kneaded it a while and laid down. If I can get his smell on the bed then he shouldn't have a problem with it and I can have my snuggie back in a couple days. :thumbup

Where did you get those caps for Alska? Lucian's back legs/hips/back whatever, needs something to help him. My son calls him "Lucian, the money pit".

He seems ok today, it's 53 out and sunny and 70 in here with the windows open, with no fans. Being on the top floor, I get the sun on the roof, plus the heat from the floors below, which is why I haven't found it necessary to use the heat. If if gets below 70 though, I think I have to now.

Re: 11/4 Lucian AMPS 191

I got it from amazon - cosequin for cats
It was $16 something plus shipping. I actually now get it from my pet nutrition center for $21. It is tuna and chicken flavored,

Re: 11/4 Lucian AMPS 191

I'll check it out, if there's something else I need, can get free shipping over $35 I think they raised it to. Used to be $25.

Went online to the Gov ins marketplace to see what I could do/get. Found out that not only can you buy the insurance, but if you qualify, you can get medicaid thru there too. Keeping my fingers crossed, I have to get some type of coverage, my gall stones have had me up for the last 2 nights. It has to come out. I so miss my insurance! Haven't had it for a year and I can't take much more. I should know something in the next few weeks they said. Of course, NC did NOT expand their Medicaid program like most other states. Friggin aholes. Hoping I qualify, I gotta see the Dr. Haven't had bloodwork in over a year, on top of other problems.

Sorry about the delay, had a pc problem, so I rebooted and watched a couple movies. Surprised at the pmps, hope he can get a reduction back to .5 soon.
