Re: 11/4 Lucian AMPS 191
He's still on it, but not long enough to make a difference. He started dropping the day I got them, before I had even given them. I almost didn't give them, but decided to be cautious and go ahead. Have come to the conclusion that his arthritis is causing him pain, not an underlying infection causing the increase in bg. But since he's only had antibiotics once in his life, about 7 yrs ago, guess it won't hurt to give them. As soon as the weather warmed up for a couple days, his numbers dropped.
So now I'm not using the fan at night so it doesn't get so cold in here and I bought him a 'snuggler' bed to help keep him warmer.
I also did the research and there is NOTHING you can get OTC that is safe to give a cat for pain. Everybody remember that! NOTHING! But I found that Imodium is safe for diarrhea, benedryl has no effect, dramamine is safe, ditto for Tagamet, Pepcid AC and Zantac. Gloucosamine w/without Chondroitin is safe at 500mg a day, which is what I may try, but those pills are HUGE. My dog was on them and aspirin for years for arthritis. Apparently there are prescription drugs like Meloxicam for cats pain, but they are just that, by script. They can take oxycodone too, but obviously not the human kind with aspirin or tylenol mixed in it.
Here's the NEVER LIST:
1. Aspirin
2. Tylenol
3. Advil/Ibuprophen
4. Pepto Bismol
5. Kaopectate
I'll check Putritan's Pride and a few other sites and see if I can find the Cloucosamine in a liquid maybe.
So there ya have, my latest cat research.
