Just a quick note to say that I took Harley into the U today. I came home and he did not come running to me. He was on his new bed but would not move. BS was 332. I took him immediately in and am waiting for news as to what is going on.

Re: 11/30 Harley is in hospital

Patti, I'm sending hugs for ((((((((((((you and Harley)))))))))).

I just read Harley's profile. I'm fairly new to the group so forgive me for not keeping everyone straight. Does Harley still have his Peg Tube? Maverick had one for ten weeks in 2008. It saved his life. He pulled it out at day 10 and had to have surgery to replace it.

It is going to be a long night. Got a call from the U. They are unsure right now what is wrong with Harley. He has thrown up a couple of times while there. Lab results show low potassium and some ketones. They suspect a major flare up of the IBD. He is on budsonide but only 0.6 ml daily. An ultra sound is scheduled for tomorrow.

They also wondered about his peeing less (a couple days ago). I had told them that it looked like he was back to his normal self, but they will check that out also.

They questioned the large amount of insulin he was on. I told them about the pending IAA test and his need for more insulin.

Now for the guilt. I watch this guy like a hawk. I don’t think he can burp without me knowing it (do cats burp)? I go through my house when I get home to check for any "presents" from the boys (and girl). Last couple of days, there has been nothing. Tonight, after the phone call, I went through the house again and then went downstairs and there are multiple places someone has thrown up. Why didn’t I make that a place to check every day also – crap!

Thank you everyone - this is going to be tough.

Pattie

((((Pattie)))) I was hoping you would update tonight. I'm glad Harley is at the vet. Don't let guilt get in the way. You can't inspect the entire house every single day, and even if you did, so what? I have 4 cats, and somebody throws up almost every day. Not every time is significant. As soon as you noticed he was off, you took him in. I think that is pretty good. Most of us would have been tempted to wait a day or two to see if he improved, but you know him well enough to know something is wrong.

I hope you can get some rest and will have better news tomorrow.

Pattie- I think that every single one of us on FDMB have played the guilt game. We all wish we could've caught things earlier, but I'm not sure that's really humanly possible. We all love our kitties so much and we do the best we can. We are lucky to have them, they are lucky to have us. Right now, Harley is in the best place to get the best care available to get him feeling better.

more vines and snowflakes!

(((((Pattie))))) You acted quickly to get him to the hospital and now they will figure out what the problem is. We are thinking positive thoughts and sending prayers, healing vines, and snowflakes to Harley tonight. Get well soon, Harley!

Like others have said, you acted as soon as you thought something was amiss. No one can do better than that. You are a great care giver and you've gotten Harley to the best vets in the area. Try to get some sleep.

(((((Pattie))))) I agree with the others. You have no need to feel guilty. You got Harley to the hospital as soon as you realized something was amiss and probably faster than a lot of people would. We can't be with our kitties every second and they are so stoic a lot of the time. It really makes it hard to know what is going on. Harley is at the best place right now. Will say a prayer that the vets figure out what is wrong and get it sorted out quickly. Try and get some rest.

Thinking of you and Harley. I hope tonight brings some good healing for Harley and a good plan for treating him. Hang in there! Lots of vines and positive thoughts are headed your way.

(((Pattie)))...you are a great mom and you really responded quickly by getting him to the vet. It's just not possible to watch everything every moment so please don't do that to yourself. Sending tons more healing vines for Harley and comfort vines for you.

(((Pattie))) you can't give yourself guilt trips, you are doing what is best for Harley and got him to the vets ASAP! That's great. Thinking positive thoughts for (((Harley))).

(((pattie))) please, no guilt.
i hope the vets get things figured out quickly and harley is home with you very, very soon.
sending positive thoughts...

I agree with everyone else - no guilt. We all do the best we can. I'm sending more prayers, healing vines and snowflakes to Harley. I hope he's home soon.

((((Pattie))))) please don't feel that way, everyone is right, ok?
You are a good momma bean to Harley, and he knows how much you love and care for him.
Thank you for updating last nite. Lots of healing vines for Harley ((((((stay strong))))) both of you.
