We managed to get a sample from Bear, he showed trace amount of ketones.. does this require a vet trip?

He threw up a little bit 2 days ago.. nothing since then. He has been eating a little less at meal times, but he does go through phases like this where he can be a little picky with his food since the switch from free feeding kibble. Other than that, acting normal etc.

Side note: does anyone know why my links to previous threads havent been working the last few days?

Ohh you’re using the app. So when I hit your dots at the top in the app and paste this is what I get. So you could strip the link out of there and then include it in your post? Seems like that text at the start is breaking your new link.

Above trace means a visit to the vet. For now, get as much fluids and calories in him as you can. How is his appetite today? Try to test ketones again later today if you can. I hope he comes down as the Lantus depot builds.

Showing some ketones means it's best not to skip insulin doses. We talked about what to do if he vomits in your previous post on the Lantus forum. If his preshot is lower than you are comfortable with, you can either wait until his numbers come up, or give a reduced dose.

Please add ketones to your signature so that people know about them and can take them into consideration when talking to you about the insulin dose. It'll also be helpful if you put the ketones test result in the spreadsheet, maybe on the Remarks column. Otherwise we'll keep asking about them now. ;)
 
Hes still being a bit picky today but willing to eat. Trying to offer food frequently and treats. I just worry about feeding him too late if he wont eat enough preshot.

If preshot is low, i hold the food while I wait for the numbers right? How long can i hold for?
Helps to be prepared as we seem to get ourselves into situations we weren’t prepared for lately lol

I've always used MIRATZ it’s prescribed a pin drop on the inner upper part of the ear exchanging ears every day for 1 week, works incredibly, the first time applied to my cats they almost ate the bowl🤣
