Yesterday

Last night was much the same as the night before. Every time he moved I woke up to see what he was doing. He did get sedated again at the vet yesterday, so he was restless, as is to be expected. Hopefully today he'll be calmer. He's had his breffis, tramadol and doxycycline, and then he retreated to his "hide-from-the-vet-trip cupboard" which is next to the one I cleaned out and set up for him. I can't wait for him to realize he doesn't have to go anywhere today. It's the first time in 12 days he gets to stay home. He's dealing with the cone better than I expected. But his ears seem to be bothering him. They are itchy, and he can't scratch them, so he just keeps shaking his head a lot. I try to scratch them for him, but all thru the night I heard him trying to scratch and shaking his head. When he comes out of hiding, I'll try to wipe them with a damp cotton ball and see if that helps, and I just called the vet to make a note to check them tomorrow when he goes in. But all in all, he's definitely looking better. The abscess doesn't look to have drained at all over night. Once he gets his drain taken out, I'll try a tshirt so he can take off that silly cone of shame.

Holding steady is good. Do you think the abscess is finished draining or do they need to give it a little more help?

I love that he chose the closet NEXT to the one you had all ready for him!

HI guys, so glad Kibby is home with you. Scrabble had surgery a couple of years ago and he wore a t-shirt for a month and was good with it. I bought him a 3 month old shirt and cut it to fit him and he was the cutest thing and tolderated it really well. I hated the idea of a cone too so the vet gave us the option of a t-shirt. Good luck with that. Have a great day!

I'm glad Kibby is doing well today. I hope the t-shirt idea works out. I've never heard of that before, but it sounds much better than the cone of shame. I hate those things. Typical cat to pick the cabinet next to the one you have ready for him. Sending prayers and healing vines to you and Kibby.

Hi Anne,
Fingers and paws crossed for Kibby's continued good recovery. That's quite a shaved belly, Kibby! You will surely have to have a nice t-shirt to cover it.

Hope you all have a good night tonight,

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

Yay...a day at home! Love the cabinet choice...of course!!!! Hope he's a little calmer tonight and that you can get just a bit more sleep. ((hugs)) to you and Kibby!

H Anne - I am so glad that Kibby is doing well. The tube area actually looks very good. I remember that from three times dealing with this before wit my kitties. Wonderful that the drainage is subsiding: well on the road to recovery! YAY! Poor Kibby and that cone, and the ears. A T-shirt is coming Kibby! Too funny on the cabinet choice.

I hope you had a good day Anne. Are you feeling better too?

Thanks for visiting everyone! I am a little worried about Kibby - he spent the entire day in the cupboard. I took his dinner to him in there, and he ate it and came out, but went directly under the bed. I'm hoping he'll come out at some point tonight and lay more in the open like he's been doing. This is the first time he's been home without coming out of anesthesia for several days, so I'm not sure if the hiding is because he's not freaking out from sedation, and he would normally do it, or if he's not feeling too great. The good news is, he's not messing with his cone much in these confined quarters. I'm anxious to get him back to the vet tomorrow afternoon, tho, just to have him checked out again. I wish I could take him in the morning, but our vet is off tomorrow and coming in just for Kibby, so I let him pick the time - it's the least I could do, right? I gave him the zeniquin about an hour and a half before dinner, so I could give Fortiflora, and just gave his tramadol about an hour ago. It looks like the abscess drained a little bit more, but not much.

Michelle - After I slept the morning away, I felt better today than I've felt in a long time. Then I squished my ribs squeezing under the bed to give Kibby the pain meds, so those are hurting worse again. Thank you for asking.

Marje - I keep trying to tell him he's going to feel much better soon, but yeah, I don't think he's buying it at this point.
