Go with your gut. Could easily be a FS so I say better to be safe. He’s been dropping low at nadir so if he’s refusing to eat I would skip. :bighug:
He isn't doing well at all. Gave pain meds @ +11.5. He is currently sitting meatoafed, head down and his body is rocking.

ER vets are better equipped for sure
Before their offices were destroyed my vets was also an emergency hosp. Not 24 hours but extended hours. I have no idea if the facility where she is now is equipped for this but my impression is-it is not.

Lizzie,
Sending ❤️:bighug:❤️ vines for you and for Gizmo to be feeling better soon and that vet visit helps. Heaps of scritches and ❤️❤️too, for Gizmo from the tribe here, especially from Azalea.❤️❤️

I am back. He stayed. He is getting intravenous fluids (but was only slightly dehydrated). Temp was 104+. Blood-work, abdominal ultrasound, injection pain and nausea meds are being done. Should have BW and ultrasound results later today. Urinalysis and urine culture will be taken when they can get urine and be sent out and should have those results tomorrow.

They wanted to keep him, I said no. He could have IV fluids while he waits for US (etc) but that he needed to come home tonight.

I bet it is a kidney infection (or possible UTI) but I don't know. He was in full Gizmo form. Hissing, spitting and generally terrorizing the staff. I got to go say goodbye to him before I left and it seemed to calm him down a bit and he made eye contact.

Great that he had the energy to be p#$@! off! You might want to re-evaluate whether he can be at home tonight ? Poor guy, all he needs is an infection. Danged good thing you took him in. With everything else going on with our kitties, it's extremely hard to realize that there's an infection brewing.
More hugs. More healing vines. More good energy zooming to you both.

BW shows slightly elevated WBC and US shows slight fatty liver, kidney disease and pancreatitis. They want to keep him but I said no. Will pick him up in about two hours. I will have better luck getting him to eat at home. He will NOT eat there. BTDT. I don't have much more details but they did give him injection nausea meds and pain meds. They will give a Mirtz when I go to pick him up. Oh, and they have started antibiotic and gotten the urine sample to send out.

I need to get a refill on the Mirtz and to get some high calorie high, protein food, low carb food - I am thinking Tiki Cat but open to suggestions. I also need to know what you think I should dose tonight. He WILL be high from the vet stress.

I am headed out to the pharmacy and the Petco (and specialty pet store if necessary). I can view from my phone but may not be able to post (have only done a few times).

I am right there with you on bringing him home. There is nothing more than can do for him while he is there that you can't do and it will only stress him out. He'll be happier at home with his momma. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

See if your vet has Iams Max Cal, although for some reason I think they are discontinuing it. It's Low Phosphorus, 9 carbs and 333 calories per can. Another option is Royal Canin RC, also low P, and easy to syringe if needed. 7 carbs and 183 calories per can.

ETA: Both are only available though a vetty.

Good that you have an idea what's wrong. Just a suggestion, but besides all the food that is certainly best for his health, maybe pick up some of the food that is his favorite, regardless of its intrinsic value?
Given his clear cut terror of the vet and the hospital, you are doing the right thing by picking him up. More hugs.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

@Doodles & Karen Maxcal was discontinued last year. :( That leaves only the Royal Canin Recovery as low carb. It was one of the few foods Neko would eat when nothing else would do. A/D is higher carb, medium carb. But if that's what it takes to get him to eat - so be it. Weruva Glam N Punk (lamb and duck) is one of their higher calorie, low carb/low P options. And you can buy small cans to try it out.

Glad you are bringing him home tonight, that's where he will feel the best, regardless of what the vet thinks they could do. Hope he doesn't hold a grudge against you for very long. Maggie always holds a vet visit grudge. Glad the SG showed nothing unexpected. Hope his BG isn't too high tonight.

Glad to hear you are taking him home tonight, hopefully this is just a panc flare and he will eat for you after the nausea & pain meds set in. Maybe some of the other Soulistic fish flavors at Petco? Some of the other lower carbs, low phos are Polynesian Picnic (6/244), Shrimply Divine (0/227), Upstream dream (5/248), Chicken & Salmon (7/284), Chicken & Tune (6/265) besides the Double Happiness you have

Just checking in. Glad you're bringing him home. Hopefully the meds will do their magic and he's able to eat.

Need advise on dosage. He is still not eating on his own though he does show interest.

How important is it to stick to his feeding schedule? It looks like I will have to force feed and I haven't had to do this since he has had diabetes. Do I force feed then shoot? When do I test for PS #?

Have you tested at all later today? If he's high, don't worry about the feeding schedule. In that case you don't care if it's food influenced. I used to assist feed a little, then shoot, then assist feed more. I found it much easier to do in small installments.

As for dose, would be good to know what sort of numbers he's in. You did skip this morning, so I'd expect high. Also, how easy it will be to assist feed and what carb foods you are dealing with. All are factors. I'd definitely give some insulin.

You did skip this morning
Yes, I skipped this morning.

how easy it will be to assist feed
It is going to be a nightmare.

what carb foods you are dealing with
I am going to start with the mixture I have pre-made. It is:
Fowl Ball (15.2oz), SOULISTIC - Pate and Shreds Chicken Dinner in Gelee (5.5oz), DAVE's - Naturally Healthy Grain Free Turkey & Giblets (5.5oz),
^this mixture is divided into 5 cycles

FB=4% carb
Soulistic P&S Chicken Dinner=3% carb
Dave's Naturally Healthy GF T&G=4% carb

Just tested and he is 241 (+10.5 / +22.5 from last shot)
