It's been awhile since the last Loose Lips.

If you're celebrating Thanksgiving next week, what are your plans? πŸ¦ƒ Do you brave the crowds for Black Friday shopping or prefer to shop on Small Business Saturday and support local businesses?

I think I'm going to Mom's for Thanksgiving dinnerπŸ€” It may just be Mom and me this year. My younger brother is supposed to be back from a business trip next week but not sure if he will come for dinner. Mom's thinking of doing two separate dinners because my other brother is .... difficultπŸ˜’. I told Mom to make one dinner and save some leftovers for her oldest son to have the next day or whenever he shows up and %&(*^ him if he complains about not having a freshly made hot dinner or whatever he throws a tantrum about (yes, a fully grown adult throwing a tantrum like a 2 year old:facepalm:). Friday I'll have to be at TBP for at least a few hours 😡 No extra pay for working on a company holidayπŸ˜’ My holiday shopping is pretty much done. I buy things throughout the year and save them for holiday gifts.

No Thanksgiving treats for the cats. Leroy's tummy can't handle anything. Civvie isn't a fan of people food. Rats will get plain baked sweet potato 🍠

You and mama sounds like a purrrfect Thanksgiving. And what's with adult men behaving like kids?!?!?! It's not cute. Sorry not sorry.
Either way I hope you have a wonderful time with your mama.
We celebrate Thanksgiving in October but we still get Black Friday deals. But I hate the mall and I hate it even more before the Holidays so I either do my shopping throughout the year like you and save it for xmas or do online shopping πŸ› πŸŽ„

Right?? Mom finally kicked him out of the house this year. Let's just say it involved lawyers. What adult making a decent 6 figure salary lives thinks it's totally ok to live at home for free completely mooching of elderly Mom who has multiple health issues all while throwing tantrums and sitting on his lazy butt??

Mom isn't going to make a full dinner. No turkey since we're not fans of turkey. It's just too dry and flavorless, at least the way Mom used to make it years ago when we had relatives over for dinner. Roast chicken and maybe a roast beef of some kind. Baked sweet potatos. Maybe soup of some kind.

There was a lab Thanksgiving potluck on Friday. I managed to avoid food posioning. There's no fridge for any of the food to be stored in and just a dinky tiny microwave to heat food up in. I only contributed store bought cookies which no one touched. I couldn't identify most of the food people bought. There was a lot of Korean dishes and I'm not familar with Korean cuisine. Labels would have been helpful.

I've never liked shopping at the malls on Black Friday. Too many people shoving and pushing and the long check out linesπŸ˜’ So glad for online shopping nowπŸ™‚ Don't forget to check out the FDMB affiliate links. Shop and help FDMB at the same time :) Amazon and Chewy are probably the two most popular web sites people will be shopping from this holiday season... and throughout the yearπŸ˜ƒ https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/forums/shopping-partners.45/

Howdy! I have my son still living with my husband and I, but that's just a Jewish thing.πŸ˜… He's 30, but still had no aim in life and not making 6 figures. Besides, he's actually really helpful. Helps me with cats and running around whenever I need, as well as we still enjoy going on hikes truth forests and mountains. Well, before the latest cat emergency that keeps me strapped to the house anyhow.
My daughter hasn't spoken to me in a month now, because even though I gave her money for her birthday (turned 28) two weeks ahead of time, I forgot about her birthday and said happy belated 2 days late. Whatever. 1 out of 2 kids isn't bad, right?πŸ˜…. She is the epitome of millennial to me.
1/4 Indian so I've never celebrated Thanksgiving, but am so looking forward to sales! I'm not a person that likes the bustle & noise, so shop online. Hoping to find a nice executive chair for my computer desk. I sit there when I can and do art for others. My last chair broke and now I use a donated one that Nico hates. He used to sit on the back and happily sleep while I worked. But the newer one is so much smaller and requires concentration to balance.πŸ˜… So essentially, I'm just getting a new chair for him. Oh! And hoping chewy has good sales! I need more freeze dried raw food so I don't have to with so hard for my guy with severe ibd. 🀣

Glad your son is helpful around the house :) My older brother is pretty much out of the picture now. He's even managed to piss off the cousins. At the rate he's going, he's not getting anything from Mom when she passes. It's already written in her will and trust and the lawyer is well aware of her wishes.

I like shopping at Chewy, too. It's the only place where I can buy Leroy's freeze dried raw from. I get the basic rat supplies from Chewy, too. There's a lot of donations to FDMB between Leroy and the rats πŸ˜‚

There's a cat bed thing that can be attached to a desk so a cat can nap while you work. I don't think Chewy has it but Amazon probably does.

I saw that! The desk hammock. So adorable but my desk is tiny and simple with no place to put that. My desk was bought used over 10yrs ago.🀣I am what I refer to as 'furry poor'. In the last 3 months alone I've spent 14k and that's just in the medical bills. I buy used stuff plenty of time.:/
I get the brother problems. I have crappy ones, but the youngest is the worst. He moved back in with my dad after my mother died and took such advantage of him and his desperation to not be alone. He even stole both his checkbook and credit card on 2 separate accounts, stealing over 7k. He is thrown out street the 2nd time. One day he decided 'If only I could get to California, so my problems will be gone'. So my dad paid a Greyhound ticket and we haven't seen him since. Though he calls my dad periodically to beg for money and whine about his life.πŸ™„ He's been a total loser his entire life and good riddance in my opinion. So I get it.
You have rats? I need info! Names, ages, pics? My friend had me pet sit for her rat when he was sick and had to be given meds while she was at work once. It was so adorable!😍
I have a 'pet' mouse. We love in the woods and would get mice sometimes falling from our roof down into our oven fan vent. I usually do a soft release with them, but this one refused to leave. So I brought her back in from the garage and we built her a mouse-topia since & been living with us for at least 2yrs now.

This year will be the first year hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our house 😬
Stressful to do it all here, but it will be nice to not worry about leaving the cats and missing any of Xander's tiny grazing meals. Luckily a pretty small family, only 4 other people will be coming in addition to my fiance and I.

We also aren't big fans of turkey. Last year we did individual cornish hens for each person and it was a hit so we'll be continuing that tradition. A bit more expensive, but not too bad since we're a small group.

I forgot the stuffing. Mom always makes stuffing in a separate baking dish. We call it Arnold because that's the name of the brand of stuffing mix Mom always uses πŸ˜„ One year Mom used a different brand and no one liked it πŸ˜„

Cornish hens sound yummy πŸ˜‹ Milk Street Radio's podcast today was a Thanksgiving episode and a food writer for the NY Times recommends duck instead of turkey because it's a lot easier to roast evenly and a duck is self basting and you get duck fat in the pan to save for all sorts of cooking later. Lots of options besides the traditional turkey :)

I have my rats listed in my signature. I have 5 now. Ages range from almost 2 to just over 2. All but one has health issues. I have a lot to deal with between the rats and Leroy :blackeye:

Haha Arnold, I like that πŸ˜† For dressings, we usually make a shrimp and mirliton dressing.
I was actually thinking about duck as well, never cooked one before.

The NY Times food writer gave a very basic recipe: pour boiling water over the entire raw duck to tighten the skin, prick all over with a fork to allow fat to drip out, roast in the oven until done. I'm sure one can find a more detailed basic recipe online. I've never cooked duck before either but love the roast duck you can buy at Asian BBQ placesπŸ˜‹ Not Peking duck, just roasted duck.
