It is my bean's fav! SWEET! OH! No worries, a dollop of peppermint and vanilla and chocolate and caramel swirl ice cream, on top of a dollop of fudge, sprinkled with peppermint chips and a chocolate caramel drizzle.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh....... mega good!

I hope everyone had a great week. ;-) The days with the boys have been good ones! We have been very busy, that part of life has not changed. Will it ever? ;-) NOPE!! :-D :-D :-D    What a BUSY week! The other grandparents are on vacation, until 12/2, so I have the boys five days a week.          And thought I was busy before, with just three days.   lasy week was teh busiest ones of their absence. With the holiday this week it shouldn't be as hectic. well, in theory anyways. We have been swimming, and hiking, to the park and the beach and the playground and on the river. Been busy indoors too, with the aquarium and the science center. We have had lunches at rivers edge, car camping some too, and indoors on benches. Funny how the boys love those impromptu eat wherever lunches. Life is good! :-D :-D :-D

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Friday Night
were our swimming days this week. That's alot of pool time! William went Tuesday and Thursday, Nicholas went Wednesday, Friday, and again on Friday nght. At the risk of being repetitive, what I wrote last week still is true this week:
They both are truly water babies. William has taken to it all so well. He never cries when there, always asks for more of whatever he is playing on. He doesn't seem to mind when the water spray features are on. He loves the slides, and wants to climb up the stairs on his own. So we do, slide down together.  I am continuing to introduce him to being underwater, for short periods at a time. He doesn't seem to mind them, I've even had a few smiles. He's adjusted to back floating, and "swimming" on his front. I have no doubt that he will like this as much as Nicholas does. In fact he never wants to leave when it is time to go. We have a new chant: MORE!  Nicholas continues to be very supportive of William's efforts in the pool. He still asks how he did when he can't swim with him, tells me what I should be training him on, asks if he did certain things. It is cool when he says" "He's doing great Grammie!" Yes, that he is. Nicholas continues to be our energizer fishie. That I think will never change. he just has so much fun with it all. He continues to LOVE the new pool we started going to a few months ago, in Snohomish. It really is a wonderful experience, and he can do alot of the things he likes there: like the slides, the lazy river, and deep water jumping and diving. That has become our new Friday pool. It is a ways away so it does add to our commuting time, but we all agree that it is very much worth the effort and time spent. We are still trying to "convince" Nicholas that swim lessons would be great... oh sure! Last night he tells me that he is "never taking that swim test!" Hmmmmm.... silly kid!
I continue teach him what I can. He continues to make lots of new friends when he goes. it's fun to see him connect up with kids when he gets there. Last night while at the Snohomish pool he asked if he could swim the lazy river unassisted. I normally have a firm grip on the back of his swim suit, ans that river has quite the clip to it, ad is far from "lazy" so he did, unassisted, an handled all the river threw at him very well. I will admit though that I was always within arms reach, just in case. We all just love pool days, and are grateful that we have the pools and the time to be able to do this. GO NICK! GO WILLIAM!

Nicholas still looks forward to our after swim Friday Night Burger Feast I know I write this each week, but that is just so fun: burgers and fries, just him and me, with lots of fun stories. He was so happy to see that burger and fries combo show up, just like always. Somehow I think that is part of the magic of Friday night swims: that he gets burgers etc after his swim. He still makes a point of making sure I have packed it all. He also thinks it would be a good idea if I packed a jar of pickles, as it seems there are never enough on his burger.   Last night he only got 4 pickles on that burger (the record is 12  )which definitely was not enough! I so need to buy that jar! Yesterday we again talked about our week, trips to the beaches and parks, the rivers, and the day spent at the aquarium and the science center. The drive home continues to be an enjoyable time for him. He continues to be into volcanoes, tsunamis, and now earthquakes, so these days so we talk alot about them. They had a special on the TV the other night on the Oso mudslide here in Washington State, so we also talked alot about what he learned. GREAT TIME!

and..... no hiking for me this week! Bummer! But the time with the boys was a great offset, and we did make it out alot, so I remain content. The weatehr has turned rainy at any rate, with lots of snow now in the mountains. at times the passes have been closed, so.... I guess the hiking season is more or less "over". Oh well, time to focus on lowland stuff. We do have several very nice ones that fit that category.

Monday was sunny, but much colder out there. Thank you Alaska for that cold front you sent our way. not. We were in the 20's tonight, 38/42 during the day. At least the sun was out (they promised!), and NO WHITE STUFF.  ;-) Monday was our free day, one without school or pool. so.... since it was barely in the 30's, and way too cold for the boys to be on the river, we elected to go to the Seattle Aquarium, ALWAYS a favorite of the boys. Nicholas asked to go the the Seattle Aquarium, so off we we went. YAY! It had been a while since we had been there, well about 3 weeks. They sure did have a great time. William is so much more mobile, so it was nice to be able to set him down and let him roam. The joy of discovery on his face was just so awesome! The section that was the biggest hit was the tide pools, where they have so many anemones, starfish, etc. They allow hands (well, your "science finger") in there, so William got to experience his second rounds with the anemones. Loved that, as did he: all smiles. It is interesting that Nicholas also enjoys the interactive screens that they have it here. We visit them all, with me reading what they say, him doing what needs to be done to get it all to work. Great leaning tool! William is a HUGE fan of the tropical fish tanks.    He just LOVES them, and can't get enough of any of the tanks. He gets so excited as these fish swim by his face, with him following them with his fingers, all the while saying "FISHIE!!!!!"We also spent alot of time in the "Under the Dome" section of the aquarium, which basically allows viewing from all sides and the top. It is a very cool area. Nicholas perched himself on a railing and watched the fish do their thing. William was busy "chasing" them aback and forth. :-D What a great day!!!

By Monday afternoon the temps had warmed alot, enough that we were able to visit Juanita Beach. The weather was warmer by then, the afternoon was turning into a sunny afternoon, like 55 (!!), so off we went! We did all of what he goes there for. Lots of play, and it was warm enough that both boys could play at the beach, but too cold for any swimming. Both had such fun with that. William continues to love the very small waves, and had a blast. SPLASH SPLASH SPLASH!   WHAT FUN! WHAT A MESS he was after that.   They both were! After one splash series they both decided that the water really was COLD, so they both stuck to the sand. William has really developed a fondness for it all, he just gets so excited when he sees the parks, the beaches, the rivers, He is so very much like his brother when he was that age. He just loved it. Nicholas did a very good job too making sure little bro was doing OK. We brought food for the ducks, what a hoot that was. Nicholas fed them, William spent time walking amongst them, trying to catch one. One of them noticed he has some bread in his hand, and was brave enough to snatch it from him. Poor William didn't know what to make of that. :? We also had a small picnic after our beach and park time. All around - really a terrific day. I bet both those boys slept well that night. AWESOME time at the beach.

Tuesday Afternoon, after William's swim, and Nicholas's school we were off to the Skykomish River at Big Eddy. And YAY (!!!!) the weather was our friend! We had some sun, mid 50's temps, and the rivers were calling us. It was truly and awesome day to be outdoors, and back to one of or fave places: the Skykomish River, near Gold Bar.We did very well, and the boys had such a good time. We stayed maybe 1.5 hours hours, before heading on out to meet up with their dad and mom so they could go home. Neither of them wanted to leave that river. There are sections were runoff made these tiny "creeks' in the sand, before joining the river. There was nothing I could do to keep them both out of that creek water. They walked in it, build damns in it, splashed and played in it. Still no fish yet in the Skykomish, kinda disappointing, but well... we will try again in a few. River was very high, fast, just beautiful. William was just as excited to see it as Nicholas was. We walked the banks, tossed a ton of rocks, waded in some, explored a few mini waterfalls, and enjoyed being out in the wilderness. I am amazed at how well both boys love the time spent there. Nicholas tells me as we are headed on out that it was "The best day". One has to love that. What a truly great morning, great time!

Wednesday Afternoon, after Nicholas's swim, some time spent with their Grammie Connie, my DMIL, who watched William for me while Nicholas was in the pool, and some gaming time early on, we were off to a local neighborhood play park, Meadowdale Park, so the boys could climb and swing and slide and just have some outdoor fun, before the weather started to turn. The rains were due shortly, but we managed to dodge an onslaught of the wet. :-D  I so had to laugh when both boys wnated to do different tings, and laughed even harder when Nicholas headed off to the right, William headed off to the left, and there I stood in the middle.... hmmmmm, which one to follow. William so goes with the flow that I gathered him up and we headed over to Nicholas's chosen venue. It was a great afternoon outdoors, and so glad that the weather gave us that chance.

Wednesday night also found me at my youngest son's band gig, at the studio, show venue that they workout off, Studio 7 in Seattle. The was lovingly booked a Seattle's "metal Fest" with about 8 bands on the venue. I was grateful that they, Fallen Angels, played late enough that I could still take care of teh biys, get them home to mom and dad's and have enough time to make the show. It ended up being a very longggggggggggggg day for me, not home until after 10PM.  Worth the effort though as Matt plays a mean lead guitar. I had a blast! Sorry the photos are so dark.... these places aren't exactly known for their adequate lighting!

Thursday Afternoon, after William's swim, and Nicholas's school we were off to the Science Center. Once again the weather was not our friend, what rains! and winds! and little sun! so........ Nicholas's solution was the Pacific Science Center. SWEET! and an excellent choice. This seems to be rapidly becoming a fave place for Nicholas, we've been every week for over a month now. Science center was alot of fun, both boys got into just about everything, Even William wants to participate. That was fun to see. I think we spent 2 hours there, what time we had, did all we could in such a short time span. Nicholas has gotten very good at knowing the afternoon visits are short ones, and he has to choose what he wants to see. Nicholas likes the place, is getting much better at understanding some of the science behind what he interacts with. William just likes pushing all the buttons turning all those knobs. ;-) It's a great place, lots to do, lots for them to learn. It is unfortunate that some of the exhibit areas need work in that the stuff simply does not work anymore. other than that, still good. Neither boy wanted to leave....It is nice though to see them accept and know that these afternoon trips are short ones, and that they have to be selective in what they see. Both boys did well with that aspect. I love Science Center days.

Friday was pretty much a swim day, with Nicholas swimming in the morning, and then again at night. Grammie Connie watched William for us so Nichols could swim. it has been great to be able to spend some time with her. We never really did get any sort of a weather break, bummer! So that brief afternoon time we had here at the house was spent indoors, with books, puzzles and gaming. That too was a fun time.

Normalcy in MusketeerVille!   The kitties are all doing well. Not too much new with them... Fall move into winter mode is here, they are bunkering down, but still yearning for the great outdoors when the sun is out. Elsa still ventures out, and when out she doesn't stay long. Bug could care less, Lola is ALWAYS grounded, and always wants OUT. Lola has been trying to be good, and for the most part I'm not yelling "LOLA!" after whatever it is she did.   I can hardly wait for Christmas and all we went through with her last year. I can still see that tree swaying....   last week she has decided lately to nap on my lap, usually in the early morning hours when I am on the 'puter. cool! That has continued this week, sometime in the afternoon too. It is amazing how serene and calm and content she looks when she is sleeping.... Of course this was only after she has these marathon run through the house for close to 30 minutes. Elsa whacks her for even thinking she wants to join. Bug of course did, runs right along with her, stopping now and then to play with a toy instead. GO KITTIES!! Nicholas continues to talk about Mannie. A few times this past week he mentioned, out of the blue, that he misses Mannie. We told many a Mannie story that day, and many others. It still amazes me how much he really remembers. I can say do you remember the time when... and he will complete the memory. That started last week too, continued into this week. As crazy as it may sound, as William is just starting to really communicate, I could have sworn I heard him say Mannie. It was as clear as a bell, happened several times that morning. Thanks for coming to visit us Mannie! We all miss ya big guy! cat_pet_icon

Have a great Caturday everyone. Sorry this post it late today. Sorry too I missed everyone's condos yesterday too. Time this morning, and the days, have gotten away from me. At least the shopping is done, and the laundry. :-D This afternoon is a Medicare afternoon, as a gentleman is coming to go over the basics, help us decide what we need, what we don't so we can successfully get DH enrolled, and lay the ground work for when it is my turn. I hope that there will be some out and about time after that, as so far the rains have remained elusive. YAY!

KITTIES! Remember: think BLUE, think GREEN cat_pet_icon

Re: 11/22 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Caturday L

I don't have to to really read your condo, but it looks like everyone had another fun, busy week. I'm glad the kitties are all doing well. How cool on the Mannie thing with William.

Re: 11/22 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Caturday L

Michelle,

You asked about the Nova show on the Oso landslide the other night. They described how the slide started and that the entire event only took a couple of minutes. When it started, the soils involved liquified which caused the slide to flow out across the river and far onto the flat area beyond. The slide was large enough to be picked up by earthquake seismographs. The saturated soils were because of the very wet March you had up there. The soils involved were glacial till deposits, which are prone to landslides if conditions are right. Because the ground had liquified, it made rescue attempts very difficult, because it was like walking in quicksand. The show was a good review of what happened. Then they went into a discussion about predicting landslides. They reviewed areas around the world which are very prone to landslides, and what happens before one will start. Switzerland has been studying landslide prediction for some time, and they showed one slide area that was being monitored by measuring crack growth at the top of the slide area. The cracks were getting wider at a faster rate, so they evacuated a village below, and the landslide happened within an hour of when they predicted. They showed various methods of monitoring areas for landslides, including Lidar measurements from aircraft. So they can be predicted, but requires that you know where to look.

The Oso area is very prone to landslides, and that spot had had numerous landslides in the past, one in 2007. This one was a lot bigger than usual, but should have been expected. I found it interesting, but I was educated as a mining engineer, so studied slope stability, and a lot of geology. Also annual mine safety training always talked about quarry operations where a material pile that was being loaded would collapse and bury the loader and the unfortunate operator. THey would dig away the base of the pile making it unstable. They didn't say this on Nova, but the river was eroding the base of the slope of the landslide for several years. I notice some developers dig out the tow of a hillside in order to get more lots for houses.

Not sure when this first aired, but a good show. May have been earlier this week.

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

Good Morning LL! ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) (YUM! I Love coffee!), and Happy Sunday!
LL! It's is I, Elsa, KBP!, president and CEO of Coffee Cat! Life is GOOD! Coffee is on, Lola and Bug , founders of Paw Prints Pizza, are ready to go! Want pizza? it is MEGA GOOD! They are busy getting ready for.... uh.... I dunno! but there sure is a flurry of activity in the kitchen. so. well. anyways. ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) ~O) Coffee time! For today, I proudly offer Elsa's special 10 hour energy coffee, and triple shot espresso, beans from the heart of central Ethiopia. For my mocha fans: Venti Quad orange and vanilla mocha, laced with orange swirls, topped with chocolate whip, garnished with orange zest, slivered vanilla beans and chocolate swirls....... and orange drizzle! SWEET OH! No worries, a dollop of orange and vanilla and chocolate and caramel swirl ice cream, on top of a dollop of fudge, and a chocolate caramel drizzle.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh....... mega good!

I hope everyone had a great Caturday. We did well, a very productive day. I'd gotten all the shopping and errands done, laundry done, and some basic cleaning by noon. WOOT That left the afternoon free for the Medicare guy. That was a great visit. He was awesome, very knowledgeable. Anyways, we got DH all set up with a great plan that will work for him, and his health issues. What a relief. Ground work was laid for me when I become eligible in a few. He was a nice guy, and passed kitty inspection, All three of them showed up to amke sure he was OK.  There are some things that go down in life that make me realize what a small world it really can be. Come to find out when he worked at the SSA he did alot of their taxing things for the areas big companies, like my former employer Nordstrom. Seems he knows my friend at Nordies: Barb, remembers her well, remembers all of the people that work Corporate Payroll Tax there. Love it! What a small world. I will have to remember to ask her is she remembers him, as she was the one that dealt with the SSA and taxes. He spent close to 3 hours with us, and when done I headed on out on a short walk through the woods here. By then the sun was trying to break through. So off to the woods of Meadowdale. It was a great walk, a nice way to windup the day.

Normalcy in MusketeerVille!   Yesterday's highlight for the kitties was the Medicare guy. We had been talking about basic medicare when he starts laughing. Come to find out Lola had found his briefcase, which he had set on the floor, as was proceeding to remove papers, one by one, chewing and ripping was eminent. She and he hit it off, he gave her pets and scritches and she was ever so gentle with him, Nice!, as that isn't always the way she is with strangers. Too funny. SO we removed her, gave her the no paper lecture, zipped the case closed. Lola decided that she needed to be part of the group, so sat on the edge of the table while we talked. ;-) Bug came to visit too, making sure the guy gave him pets and scritches and chin rubs. Elsa stayed at the other end of the room, just watching, made a few who is this guy bellows, and then split to the safety of the bedroom. She never really has been much of a social cat. Safe to say the kitties had an enjoyable afternoon with the Medicare guy. cat_pet_icon

Have a great day everyone! it is wet and raining and windy here. BLEECH! So.... not too sure what will be here today. I hope that it will let up some so I can get out later today for woods walk. It would be great to go on down to the creek in Meadowdale Park and see if the salmon are still rennin. I am hopeful that the recent Stormy weather we have had will have brought in more. Normally the salmon run can go into the first week of December. Paws crossed!

Morning Anne ~O) ~O) ~O) I agree! That force is a strong one! SO nice to know that Mannie is still watching over us all. :-D :-D :-D :-D

Morning Carla ~O) ~O) ~O) It was a great week, for sure, and fun to have the boys all five days. Kitties re doing well, and for that I am grateful. I thought so too on William, and Mannie. How great he chose to visit him, and that William could communicate it. Mannie crossed long before William was born.

Morning John ~O) ~O) ~O) THANKS for the Oso update and the summary of the show. I hope they will rebroadcast it. I enjoyed reading what you wrote, makes understanding Oso and all that happened therm better for me. Very very interesting on the prediction part. The clues are there, we as people need to acknowledge them and act upon them. I think so too in that they should have expected that slide, they knew the potential for another one was there. Interesting too on the erosion from the Stillaguamish, and that that was not mentioned. I wonder why not. I have noticed that in some spots there when I hike the area. That river has a mind of it's own, been claiming land for years. Well anyways - I will see if I can find it on cable, sometimes they keep shows for later viewing. Thanks for sharing what you thought!

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

I just read in detail how busy your week was. I bet you're exhausted. The boys really do love exploring and swimming.

How funny on Lola and the Medicare guy. It sounds like he's a cat person.

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

Hi Carla ~O) ~O) ~O) It has been a crazy week, and yes tired ruled her yesterday.  But is is all good! I think so too on the Medicare guy, you could tell he was a cat person. he was very good with them.

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

Busy, but sounds like a normal week for you!

Last nicht the Nova program on Oso was rebroadcast, at 11:00pm. Unfortunately, I knew you would be long asleep, but here's a link for it.

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

Another busy but happy week. :-D I loved your burger smiley. And I do agree with Nicholas - bring on the pickles. It's great hearing how William is evolving and interacting more and developing his own interests, like the fishies.

DH and I watched the show on Oso this week, fascinating stuff. I hope you get to see it. We've got sunshine now after the very dreary start - I hope you've got the sun now.

Scritches to the kitties. Too funny on Lola and the briefcase. Those were always a magnet for Neko too. She's not as fond of strangers now but I do remember catching her sitting inside strangers briefcases. Great that the Medicare guy was such a cat person.

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

Hi Ann ~O) :-D Dang Nabbit! I missed it again! but you are right: 11PM and I am long gone asleep.... Thanks for the link though. YAY!!!!!! and yes, what a busy crazy week.... but it was FUN!

Hi Wendy ~O) :-D LOL, but isn't that burger smiley great? Found that about a month ago, thought it was so indicative of what that burger feast is like: CHOMP! I think so too on William, he has grown up! has a mind of his own now, and interacts as he thinks he should. LOVE it! We finally got the sun too, and YAY I was able to get out for a walk, a local one, this afternoon, got a few miles in. I will watch the OSO thing - Ann sent the link so I can. That whole thing was just so close to home that I would like to see it. THX too on Lola, it was a fun time for her, and she did like the guy. Points for the Medicare guy!

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

My Goodness Michelle, as usual, I am now exhausted reading about your week  I hope you got out today and were able to at least take a walk, it was such a nice day! And I am just laughing so hard at your last addition, that Lola, what a naughty kitty!! I bet she and the SSA guy got along like gangbusters LOL! :-D Hope you get a good night's sleep, with having the boys 5 days this week, you are going to need it!! :-D Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

As always...whew!!!! I don't know how you do it! I love that William is just like his Big Bro....those two are going to be famous swimmers some day! So cool that Nicholas still remembers Mannie stories, AND that Mannie paid a visit through William!! Too bad hiking season is just about over for you, but you obviously know how to fill in all that spare time with other awesome activities  !!

Have a great Monday, Michelle!!

Re: 11/22-23 LOOSE LIPS: Whoa... what a week! Happy Sunday

Wow. I am now officially exhausted. I don't know how you do it. Those boys keep you going! How sweet with Nicholas, William, and Mannie. A moment of awwwww. Silly Lola. The trees are going up (and coming back down). LOL. We aren't doing a tree this year. Of course, my kitties are too old to care anymore. Have a great great week!

Happy Monday everyone. I hope your weekend was a good one. It's been busy here, but mellow at the same time. Thank goodness for that, as the busy begins again today, with my having the boys for M-W, then turkey day (YUM!) and well Friday probably will be busy too, as Nicholas has asked to go swimming. He just loves those Friday night swims. We have had a productive weekend. The Medicare guy has DH all set, I'm waiting in the wings for my turn. it is great to have that aspect all set. I managed a few walks to the shore as well. Saturday at Meadowdale was great: sunny,a nice day all around. Sunday at Meadowdale was great too. We had had a morning of solid heavy rains, by noon it had cleared leaving us with a nice Fall afternoon. Oddly enough the beach was deserted. What a nice peaceful tie down there. Came home to begin to think about holiday shopping. Before we know it There will be decorations, holiday cheer and Lola will be up the Christmas tree. SWEET!

Kitties are doing well this morning,. All three of them were busy at 3:30 AM to amke sure I knew it was almsot time for breffis  3"30???? Enjoy your Monday LL!! I am now off to gather up the boys, and begin a crazy fun filled busy day. Pool time for nicholas, and we hope an afternoon at the park, weather permitting. :-D :-D

Morning Ruth ~O) ~O) ~O) It has been a super busy one! Five days with the boys, all good and fun though. And yes on that walk yesterday - I did, just to the local woods and park here but that was exceptional. LOL on Lola and the SSA/Medicare guy. He was so a cat person, and she rally liked him. we did try for the relax/rest thing, think I succeeded, and off we go again this morning. WOO HOO Boys time!

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O) Busy.... love it! I think so too on William, he and his brother are alike in alot of ways, a bit different in temperment, but they seem so far to like the same things. I SO AGREE on Nichoals adn Mannie, and the stories. Like it even more that William somehow knew "Mannie". Way cool! THX ont he spare time thing, I adjust , and off we go. :-D

Morning Melissa ~O) ~O) ~O) Sometimes I think my auto pilot is stuck in GO mode. Been that way for years with three kids, all very active, and in sports. used to the crazy busy I guess. Sure was ncie on William and Mannie, really nice! LOL on the tree thing -I hope it survives another year.... GO LOLA! Elsa is too old to care any more either. ;-)
