11/19/20 - Squeaky!! - AMPS 315 PMPS 600+ This is not good news.

Do you think Lantus stings him? Max never minded the shots. I’ve seen with high doses it can sting but every cat is different so I wonder if that is the case for him.

I'm glad you were able to get Squeaky to eat something. I hope he feels better soon. Sending prayers.

Thanks for the cheerleading, Carla! And thanks for the prayers.

Elise, sometimes the mother is not so skillful. Sometimes his ears just do. not. have. blood. Also he's just like his mom, super sensitive. He. tries. so. hard. to cooperate and be still. However it's just not fun. He glares at me whenever I get close to him...... I'm going to give him a break today, no mid-cycle ear prick and we're going outside for fun and relaxation.

Is he still getting buprenorphine?

Thanks for checking in THH. Yes, 0.1 mg a day. He hates it.

Also I've boosted the cerenia to 7.5. It's easier for me to dose. I grind it with the budesonide and put them both together in a single capsule and I pill him with it. He hates it.

He was not doing so well today, but we went outside and that seemed to have perked him up a bit. He is still mostly eating baby food. This morning he wouldn't eat it, I had to pan sear pieces of raw pork for the good smell and he ate some of that, by hand.

I skipped his mid-day test to give him a break. We had a clumsy painful shot in the evening yesterday and it seemed to really upset him, along with the buprenorphine oral drugged delivery he doesn't like and the pilling he doesn't like..... he was mad at me (or just not feeling well) today. Wouldn't take treats from me and was unhappy when I petted him.

Seems better this afternoon now that we've been outside, at least his mood has improved. :)

@THH Hmmm, over 600 again. What do you think happened? No wonder he was not feeling well today and was grumpy with me.

@Wendy&Neko I'd be grateful for your opinion on what is happening.

Ooh, I skipped his mid day test because he was so grumpy and we had some not skillful shots the day before...... He just seemed to need a break.

I wonder if he greened and therefore big bounce.

And anyone else.....

Thank you all.

With no mid day tests, any guesses I have as to what happened would just be guesses. It was six cycles after his last green, so if he broke a bounce today, he would be due for a green.

A bit more detail need on how the shot didn't go so smoothly? Any chance of a fur shots?

See, just guessing....

Hi Wendy, Not a guess but just wondering.

Well it was just a series of things going wrong. He hates the buprenorphine. He told the animal communicator last time we were using it, that it hurts his mouth and he doesn't like it. I usually give him the buprenorphine right after the ear test, I kind of sneak it in, and then he can eat. However last night I forgot, so I had to go later and pick him up again and take him over and give it to him..... and this was after the bad shot.

What happened with the shot was I try to move the shots around so I don't always do it in the same place. The place I chose, I put the needle in and it must have hurt A LOT because he bolted before I could squeeze the syringe, and really glared at me. So then I had to round him up again and then, I shot right in the scruff which he usually is okay with, but he was already upset and sensitive and he flinched when it happened. Maybe because the needle was used once already? Anyway, so I gave him the shot, then as I mentioned I had to pick him up again and give him the dreaded buprenorphine. So it was a pretty miserable evening.

Some nights things go well, other nights I'm just a klutz of some kind.

Anyway he didn't seem to be doing very well after that, and all morning (read: he had to be pilled which he hates too, it also took two tries, sigh) and into the afternoon. He just looked very punk and was avoiding me too. Glaring at me a lot. I just wanted to give him a little break, and me a little break too. He did perk up after we sat outside for a while.

That's the story. Some people, well they do everything right all the time. I'm not one of those people. Murphy lives here.

So do I need to be thinking about changing the dose any time soon? The vet at first really wanted him to be at 3 units. Now she is talking about, maybe something else is going on that might be affecting why his numbers have been so extreme.

I'm also wondering if the 0.1mL buprenorphine dose might not be enough. Sometimes buprenorphine is given twice a day. It may be worth asking your vet. Or if he tolerates gabapentin better, ask your vet if he can be given gabapentin 1-2 times a day (in addition to the buprenorphine).

Pancreatitis flares can take a while to resolve once they start, especially in diabetic cats who are prone to them.

Hi THH, I've increased insulin to 3.25 per Wendy's advice.

I hate to give him buprenorphine twice a day (he says it hurts his mouth), but previously we were on .02 once a day. However, I think I will watch for a little while before increasing it. My vet didn't give any dosing advice......
