Re: 11/15 AMPS 334

Update for Frank I posted an update on the health forum for those that were with us in the beginning. There is a message in there for everyone who has been with us and patiently guided us through this process, so far. What a strange past few weeks. I'm thankful that I have not had to do it alone. I'm sure Frank is too. If it were left for me to choose between guessing and taking him to the vet, he'd probably have expired by now...because I apparently don't guess well and after his first four days in the hospital + $100s on supplies/meds... I am broke. lol

Re: 11/15 AMPS 334

Good morning Tina ~O) ~O) Frank sure is coming around isn't he! Such good news and a great job to you for working so hard to figure this out with all the crazy numbers and schedule changes :-D You are doing an amazing job!!
OK Frank, you've shown you like the lower numbers so let's start coming down a bit. Nice and easy little man
Have a great day Tina

Re: 11/15 AMPS 334 / +3 333

that's a nice update, tina! looks like you got a good night's sleep and Frank did ok with the delayed shot. it's so much easier to be on schedule.

keep on - you're doing great. check his BGs every 3ish hrs, get a ketone check, keep adding water to his food. he's responding well. the fact that he saw green numbers the morning of the 12th, bounced from it but then made it back to 160 the next day is a good sign. sometimes when cats bounce they'll be high for 3 days. that he resolved it so quickly *might* say that he isn't that unaccustomed to the green numbers. those green numbers are the goal - they'll allow his pancreas to heal.

have a great day! it's just so good to hear frank is doing this much better. how the cat feels is everything!

Re: 11/15 PMPS 351

I'm glad we got it over with. I was worried. His numbers are much improved today, which I am quite giddy over. I figured I would start testing him every three hours, unless he gets goofy. I didn't realize we took 22 BGs the other day. Generally we can get him to bleed the first stick but sometimes we have to stick him a few times. Now that I know that testing him every hour isn't necessary when he is in high numbers, I guess we should cut the poor cat some slack. I was just so afraid we were going to miss something. We got a lot of good practice though and he is used to it now, so it was not entirely purposeless.

Thanks again everyone, and here is to hoping that his numbers are good and we have days like today to follow. drinking24

Re: 11/15 PMPS 351

one thing that can guide you in how often to test in any given cycle is to do a +2, if it's about the same, then you're headed for an "active" Lantus cycle. The "new to the group" sticky has a chart on what that might look like, although the nadir might not be exactly at +6. You'll know he's passed the nadir when the numbers begin to rise. Many people look at the speed of the drop and figure out how many points per hour it is. Once you know Frank's patterns you'll be able to predict about when he usually hits the nadir.

for example, say tonight's preshot is 350 - if you see a 250 at +2, that says he's definitely dropping this cycle and the rate at that point is 50/hr. you might decide to check again hourly until you see a 100 at +5, then go to every 30 minutes. that's just a random example, but it gives you an idea.

as you go along, people will be able to help you see what's going on. you can always post and ask when you should test next.

Re: 11/15 PMPS 351

it's really great that Frank hit blue already, after several delayed shots. I think once his insulin depot refills, you'll be seeing green again sooner rather than later. Go Frank!

Re: 11/15 PMPS 351

Very nice update indeed! You and Frank are doing awesome, getting settled into "the dance". Keep up the great work, and have a great evening, Tina!!!
