11/15 Comet AMPS @ 104

Hi, Comet is on Day 2 of Budesonide and day 2 of .10u, I have noticed his numbers increasing up into the 100’s or high 90’s again. Yesterday his AMPS was 116. Does anyone know if Budesonide would cause this? My understanding was it was not supposed to raise GC levels and that’s why we switched off the Pred.
He is on 1mg once daily of Budesonide.
Should we hold the .10u for a few days or go back to .25u?
Previous to the last few days he would start at higher 90’s and creep down to 80’s and some high 70’s. I liked where he was with this, but would like to get him to a starting place of 80’s during the AMPS.

I agree. For most cats it doesn’t raise bg. Give him a little more time to adjust to the decrease. He’s still looking good.
Does he get a small +9 snack? The amps is often tge last number to come down and feeding 3-4 hours before can help.

He typical eats for his AMPS at 8am, the eats for a +2 or +4 and then eats at +6 and then eats at PMPS and then eats +4 and then we head to bed as it’s a bit after midnight

we also can not leave out snacks because my other two cats. Might look into a feeder just for him

An auto feeder set for +8 or +9 or setting an alarm briefly might bring those numbers down and help him go into remission.

Oh wow, that’s interesting. Everything I’ve been told by the vet was that he could only have 2 meals a day & the more he eats the more his sugars will elevate or bounce around. He’s always been a grazer. But when we adopted his middle brother we had to go to schedule feedings

Not true. A working pancreas will bring down the bg 3-4 hours after eating. That snack has helped so many go otj here.

He has blood work for his renal values next Monday, I will ask about getting him microchipped so we can purchase an automatic feeder

The Sure Feed feeder also comes with an ID tag you can put on a collar on Comet if you don't want to do the microchip. The feeder will only open to the one wearing the tag. I think the microchip is a good idea anyway in case the two of you get separated for any reason.
