Hi Everyone!
It's been a while. I've been lurking around but not doing much posting.

I have an issue with Clyde. He is coming up on one in remission at the end of this month, and I fear he may be starting to fall out of it. This evening I did a spot check on Clyde's insulin levels because the last couple of days I noticed some food left in the dish at the next meal.

I tested Clyde three times. The first time was 201, the second was 180 and the third was 183. This is higher then he's been at any time during the past year. Since there was food in the dish, I don't know exactly when he last ate.

The strips I have expire next month. I don't know how much they affect the readings. I did test myself and it said I was in the normal range. I still have a vial of Lantus which is probably over a year old by now but it's been kept in refrigeration and looks crystal clear with no floaters.

My vet's office is closed until Monday.

Any suggestions/recommendations on what I should do at this point?

Myself, I'd probably use the weekend to start getting some spot checks a couple times a day to see what is going on. Get a test before he eats, then again an hour or two after he's eaten to see what food does to him. Get some testing in over a few days to find out if the high number is a fluke or a trend.

I'd also probably get a vet appointment and get things checked out just to make sure there isn't something else brewing that would make things like the lack of appetite or the higher BG show up. Get some blood work done, a wellness exam.

If the Lantus hadn't been used before going into the fridge a year ago, it may still be good. If it had been used, I would probably get fresh stuff if it comes to using insulin.

Hi Melanie,
I'm definitely going to try and get a couple of spot checks in over the weekend. Do you think I should replace the strips?

The Lantus is the original vial I got when he was first Dxed last year. It's been used and has been sitting in the back of the fridge for a while. Never quite got around to throwing it out. I originally held onto it incase he quickly fell out of remission and then forgot about it since it was in the back of the fridge. If he is falling out of remission, I will replace the vial.

I'm going to call the vet first thing on Monday morning to see when he can come in. I tried calling right after I got the high reading but they were already closed. :( He's actually due in the next couple of weeks for his annual checkup, so I will just move it up :)
