Re: 11/14 Bailey AMPS 203 PMPS 173 +6 34 +10 178

Ok so he dropped at 34 at PMPS+6. No hypo signs but I gave him a little HC. This would mean a dose decrease but there is nowhere to go except OTJ at this point and I really dont think he is ready... thoughts? He is due his AMPS in an hour.

I'm looking at his SS but I'd shoot this with your one drop and then monitor. I need a little time to look at the SS and see if he could be bouncing off the insulin.

Just be sure you watch him closely and feed him a higher LOW carb food. If you cannot be there to monitor him today, I'd skip and see what he does.

In a case like this....and this is suggested just for Bailey....one thing that we've recommended in the past is that you feed a higher LOW carb food so you can continue to get that drop into him until he flattens out. But you will really need to monitor him. If you had done a +2 last night, you could have slowed him down and stopped that drop to the 30s. If you try this suggestion, it has to go hand in hand with more testing to keep him safe.

I also have asked for some other eyes on his SS. He doesn't look like he's ready for a trial....he just looks bouncy to me still but I'd like some other thoughts.

I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Ok I gave him the drop. I will do a +2 from now on.

If I had given him HC at +2 would that have stopped him dropping so low? I thought HC wore off after a couple of hours. Just wondering if this means i need to get up every night and feed HC at +4 or something. I cant leave it out due to Tiggy.

No...I'm not saying feed high carb. I'd just monitor and feed the curve to slow him down and flatten him out. I'm not sure what kind of a feeding schedule you have him on?

If you are free feeding, it might help to feed him mini meals over the first few hours in order to give the insulin something to "work" on. I wouldn't feed him HC unless he drops into the 30s. I'd just try a higher LOW carb like an 8 or 10%.

Also...take a look at the New to the Group sticky...there are some insulin doses on there. You could try, tonight, to shoot the amount shown in " some" insulin if it is less than your one drop. That might be very helpfulnbutni still think you need to manage the curve with food and that might help flatten him.

Eta: I recommended you shoot the drop this morning because he is bouncing and we do shoot through the bounce. But, for tonight, it's either shoot less insulin or use food to control his numbers.

Ok thanks - i will look for a higher carb food.

FYI my one drop - i literally put insulin into the syringe and empty it all out by pushing the plunger to the end naturally. Then if I squeeze the syringe very firmly literally 1 small drop comes out the end. Thats the dose - its even less as the "some" (as listed in the sticky) since the plunger is right at where it stops moving.

 I know.. its really a microdose. I will trying playing with the syringe again and see. Somewhere between a normal squeeze (nothing) and a firm squeeze (small drop). This cat is really a challenge!
