Don't you think he bounced again last night? At +12 he was 223, then a half hour later he was at 429. Will it take another day or so to come back down from that one? I'll test him before he eats at +5. maybe things will look more normal today! How did attie's fructosamine test come back?
Actually, no I don't think that was a bounce. At +12 it could have been a combo of several things. Food, insulin wearing off, late nadir...and they all combine to 'appear' to be a whoosh...bounce.
Relax a little bit. He needs time to settle into these numbers and dose. As far as I know PZ doesn't shoot the overlap, so when he runs out of insulin...up he goes....quickly. This is where the low carb foods etc. can help in minimizing the intensity of the rise. I would look to feed low-low carb as main meals, then his snacks in the 5-7% carb range.
It is exciting to see these numbers though!!!
Attie's fructosimine test came back at 478....poorly regulated. Which we knew it wouldn't be a stellar report, my meter has him at 289. Which the 478 translates to around 300. (why we say the fruct. test is generally a waste of money our meters can give us better results), It was what we were expecting with all his troubles as of late.
The doctor wants to put him on Royal Canin Intestinal, but it is 25.5% carbs. I called Royal and asked, but we may not have much of a choice. The other option is sending him to a specialist $$$$, which if I don't get any pet sitting jobs soon...will be totally out of the question!
As Dr. Price explained, with his tummy this messed up he isn't getting the right nutrition. And we have nowhere to go. She feels backed into a corner. Bless her heart she is at least honest! It is why I like her so well. I'm supposed to get back with her on Monday and let her know which way...I'm thinking specialist because even the exclusion diet of venison hasn't really seen significant improvement.
