11/06/20 Concern about curve

I wouldn't call it "disappointed"....you're still very new to the sugardance and it can take awhile to get signs of improvement.

First, it's important to get tests on the PM cycle too...at least a "before bed" test. Most cats go lower at night so it's important for safety as well as knowing what's going on for half the day! Only testing on the AM cycle is like doing a puzzle but only putting pieces in on the left side....makes it impossible to know what's on the right side of the puzzle!

Next, we have two dosing methods with Lantus. After the first 5-7 days (which are the days where you're building the depot), you can start increasing the dose if it's not getting the results you want. On Tight Regulation, you only have to hold the dose for 6 cycles before deciding if you need to increase again. On Start Low, Go Slow, you hold the same dose for 7 days before changing the dose (unless he drops too low at any time on either method)

Here are the Two dosing methods. You don't have to choose one right now but you'll need to consider it soon.

TR gives the best chance at remission because you increase the dose more often until you get the numbers you want but it requires more testing, especially if your cat is dropping into lower numbers. SLGS has you hold the dose for at least 7 days which means holding the dose for a week even if it's not getting the results you want. But with SLGS, you are less likely to have to do as much testing.

Right now, I'd suggest going ahead and increasing Prince's dose up to 1.25 for at least the next 6 cycles and try to get at least a couple of tests in between the AM and PM shot (if possible) and at least 1 "before bed" test on the PM cycle.

So would 6 cycles be 6 shots?

Yes, a cycle is 12 hours. There's an AM and PM cycle so 6 cycles is 3 days.

Thanks for getting your Signature set up so quickly too! Is the YA used ONLY for a treat when you test or shoot? Or is it down for him to nibble on if he gets hungry between the canned foods?

I’m leaning toward SLGS based on the info on the sticky note.

Totally your choice and if you decide to change later, you can do that too!

A lot of people have the misconception that SLGS is somehow "safer" because it sounds reasonable but it's really not. As long as you're able to test, YOU are in control of your cat's blood glucose.

On TR, you give the best chance at remission because you don't let your cat stay in high numbers any longer than necessary, but yes, cat's on SLGS can reach remission too.

On TR, you can change the dose as often as every 3 days. On SLGS you have to hold the dose for 7 days which can, in some cases, allow glucose toxicity to become a problem. That's where the body gets used to living in those higher numbers even though you're giving insulin and may require a higher dose than you would have needed if you weren't dealing with it.

Really, it totally is whatever you're most comfortable with though. You can start on SLGS and switch to TR later if you want or you can start with TR and if it's not for you, go back to SLGS!

What is it about TR that concerns you?
