All P's Powder has in place, doesn't preen or play much.
Powder ate all his food during night not sure when he ate so could account for BG. He seems happier today. Have had to throw out two of his Baytril he refused to eat them no matter what. Not sure if it was refusal of the food or did he know the pill which is tiny and flavored like liver was in it. Does anyone have any tricks ai tried hiding it in chicken with broth and in his liver and chicken FF no luck. With his flat face I can't pill him he somehow always manages to spit it out. :-x

Not as good as yesterday. He didn't have anything done but must have been stressed. Is it common and is it possible for his BG to still be up next day?

I also wonder if he was holding out for HC. He is eating much better today. Definitely purring more tonight and begging.

My vet said not to give him his L insulin before his Dental Prophy next week. He won't be released until evening. I will bring a can of food 'cause they feed grain based dry food to sugarcats not sure if they might feed him. How do FD members handle this ? I want to do what's best for Powder. I could try to get him sooner if they'll agree. What can I expect his BG's to do after?

hi there!

so you have a dental coming up? Can you mark that on your spreadsheet?
And as a reminder, mention it frequently in your daily condo's, that way you'll get the feedback for the dental.
You could also add that to your subject line ie: "dental questions"

Have you tried the soft chew treats pill pockets? I think they are called Greenies.
Someone can correct me on that, I tried them and they didn't work, lol, figures, but they do work for some.

There are some suggestions that come up when a kitty has a dental, does your printer work? Might be a good idea to be prepared to print info out.
So like I said, mention the dental coming up daily so you can get all this info. I will see what I can dig up for you as well, but let us know what the dental is for ok?
Cleaning or check up? Or a procedure?

Hi Ronnie thanks for visiting. It should only be a cleaning. No loose teeth so unless something looked really bad no teeth should be removed. Vet didn't want to pull any if he could help it due to DM. I was going to tell him no teeth pulling unles severely diseased because they don't look bad.
I can try but he stops eating when he hits the crunch. If I wrap it he works it out. He's no fool. I may have to do what vet said
crush and put in a little water and use a syringe. Don't think that will go over big with Prince though :lol: Thanks for the hints.

Gabby had a dental in August and they pulled 3 teeth. Devon/Mocha had a dental and they pulled 8, I think. Lots of kitties here have had extractions and there was no issue with healing. It's better to get any teeth out that are problematic since the inflammation or pain will only cause numbers to be high.

Here's some info on questions to ask a vet about dental procedures:
Dental info

1) X-rays: either before or the day of the procedure. Also x-rays after to make sure there are no tooth fragments left after an extraction.

2) Bloodwork: prior to the dental to rule out anything that would prevent the procedure

3) Pre-anesthesia sedation/induction: Ketamine (some has been recalled), propofol, valium. Induction should be with an IV drug vs. a gas.

4) Anesthesia: Sevo or Isoflurane (these should not be used for induction, however)

5) Cardiac monitor: pulse oximeter or cardiac monitor

6) IV catheter for fluid access

7) Post-procedure antibiotics only if necessary. (See Dr. Lisa’s commentary)

8 ) Pain meds: administered post-procedure and to take home: Buprenex, no metacam due to the potential for renal failure. A fentanyl patch may be excessive for the purpose of this kind of pain management.

9) Blood pressure monitoring (Doppler or Cardell monitor)

10) Warming: make sure there is a means of circulating warmth vs. one warm spot. The latter can cause burns.

I try hiding a pill in food he can't resist and food that he doesn't typically eat ( as to not create a food aversion). Piece of ham or cheese works in this house.
