Phoenix was 57 at +8.5 this morning. I fed him some fancy feast hc. At + 9, BG was 79. At +9.5, his BG was 72. I went ahead and fed him some more fancy feast hc since it is getting close to +10.

I am going to try not feeding him anything else since I don't want to have to delay his shot. However, 2 hours is a long time to try to maintain his BG levels. I may need to ask what to do if his BG starts dropping after + 10.

Phoenix is now at BG 69 at + 10. I am going to try not feeding him. At what number should I feed him?

What time do you do amps and shot? Hopefully someone will jump on by then. Typically Lantus starts wearing off by now but you never know what these kitties will do...

Phoenix usually drops until his insulin time at 7 a.m.
He usually goes up some after he eats. It is now 6 a.m. I have another hour before shot time. I am going to check his BG again in just a few minutes. Thank you for responding.

Hi Susan, sorry, I am only just seeing this.

You can feed as late as +10. If you feed higher carbs at +10, you want to delay your shot by 30mins so that you ghet a clear +2.5 hours for the carbs to leave the system and give you an AMPS not influenced by carbs.

I see he was flat at +10 despite HC at +9.5. Let's see where he lands at AMPS. I presume he has not been fed after +9.5?

No, I have not fed him since +9.5. I checked his BG again and it was 74. I believe as long as he is above 50 at shot time, it is okay to give his insulin.

Bhooma, I don't expect you to respond to my posts this week. You need to take care of yourself and Bandit. I really hope Bandit gets to feeling better soon. You both have a good day!

Is this the AMPS? If yes, you can go ahead and shoot. I wonder if he will head higher after breakfast or keep you on your toes!
It's good to see him holding the reduction.

Oh Bandit's issues have been going on for a month. Being on the Board takes my mind off them. :-)

@Bandit's Mom I'm so sorry I tagged you. I did not see all the problems you are having with Bandit until after I tagged you. Prayers for you. You are a true blessing to all on this site.

Hi Summer, it's no problem at all. :) You too are taking the time and effort to post and cheer up/help people despite Susie's health issues.

No, his AMPS is not for another 20 minutes. His BG right now is 72 so I think he will be fine to give his insulin.

I knew Bandit had been ill last month but I hadn't seen you post much about her since then. I thought she had probably gotten better. You know Phoenix's blood work had always come back negative for infection or just mildly elevated. But since we got his allergies under control, his BG has started coming way down. I hope this is the case with Bandit. Once her kidney flare-up settles down, her BG will come back down.
