First of all, a massive THANK YOU to everyone who chimed in on my post that ran from Sunday to yesterday. I can't even begin to express gratitude for the outpouring of both support and ideas to help out Boots.

Here's the latest: we stopped the cyproheptadine (last dose was 8am 10/30). We gave Cerenia and 2-3mg ondansetron 8PM 10/30, and gave another 2-3mg ondansetron 8AM this morning. I also gave him his first pinch of egg yolk powder just a little while ago. The SEB powder arrived today, so we'll try that later today hopefully.

This is what we've found with those changes:
  • his first feeding after the ondansetron last night was much improved - he ate all of his 1/4 can (.75oz) and we gave him a bit more which he also ate
  • his meals today have been also much better. still not eating a ton, but EATING and seems eager
  • less vocal - normal vocalizations today, especially around the treat cabinet in the kitchen, which is, of course, normal!
  • less agitated - he's been up and about more (still sleeping a good bit, but so are the other kitties), but doesn't seem as fussy as he had been - less vocal, and seems to be more easily able to settle down
  • he made a nice poop yesterday afternoon and two small nuggets this morning, so at least he's still moving stuff along, though is likely still backed up
He still seems to be not eating as much each meal, or at least not as easily/heartily. He used to get 1/2 can servings (1.5oz) at 5 separate meals. The inappetence started by him eating a couple bites then walking away and needing us to follow him with the plate to coax him to eat more. Day by day, he ate less and less. Now we're doing .75oz servings at a time, but he had been doing the same thing (bite then walk away, follow and coax, still not even finish that little amount all the time). But he is still doing the walk away thing, but he's eating more first. So not sure if that's behavioral or medical, the taking a break and walking away thing. Last night, he took a break but then came back to the plate a minute later and ate more.

It may not be perfect, but it's progress.

I'm just glad that he SEEMS better today. Acting much more like himself, and hasn't spent much time if any today under the bed, which he had been a lot, which is out of character for this social guy.

We'll keep up the ondansetron and cerenia, and add in the digestive supplements (egg yolk, SEB) to see if that keeps things moving better. I'd rather throw everything we've got at him now and start peeling things back one at a time if he stays improved.

My spirits are much improved today, and it's in no small part thanks to you all.

Happy Halloween! :woot:

Anyone have any advice on timing of giving antinausea meds (cerenia and/or ondansetron) and appetite stimulant (cyproheptadine and or mirtazapine) in relation to meals? Should that stuff be given well before a big mealtime to make sure they are ready and willing to eat then when they need to? We mix some other supplements into food at some mealtimes so really need those meals finished.

Trying to figure out the best timing on all this. Currently, Boots gets most of his existing supplements at his AMPS and PMPS meals at 8am and 8pm. Should the nausea and appy meds be given before that or with it?

What a great report. Progress!!! And I hope that it just keeps on getting better as the egg yolk powder and SEB start to do their magic.! Happy Halloween to you and yours.

I typically gave the nausea meds and/or appetite stimulants 40-60 minutes before a meal.

I'm so glad to see that Boots is doing better! I have noticed that after a tummy upset, it takes a while for them to realize they can eat without feeling bad. Just be patient and hopefully he'll figure it out soon!
