Sorry for the late condo (again) Tiger seemed to be having repeated visits to the LB and straining this morning, not a good sign! ohmygod_smile At one point, she was straining and while a small amount of urine came out, so did a tiny speck of fecal gel like matter ohmygod_smile  Good grief, she has no privacy, I know!! That warranted a visit to the vet, luckily, they fitted us in at 10:40. However, my poor baby was unable to give a sample and had to stay at the vet for 4 hours. :? The culture has been sent to the lab, I should know something in a few days. The vet didn't see anything in the urine, but said UTI is a possibility. Also discussed the possibility of colitis ohmygod_smile , she wants me to watch for any further straining and gel like matter. I know for a fact, I have never seen that before, not in any of my kitties. There has been minimal coughing up of furballs in the past 3 months, she has been in pretty good shape until this! Tiger is resting comfortably tonight, I think she is glad to be home. Numbers not great, but considering her day, not that bad. Probably looking at a dose increase tomorrow, if not improvement by tomorrow.

If anyone has experience with feline colitis, I am very interested to learn what the symptoms were.

Sending healing vines to all kitties in need and their humans!

Bummer on the LB straining and subsequent vetty visit. I hate leaving cats for a sample. Did the vetty check her anal glands too? I know, just another kitty abuse. The only experience I have with colitis was with a shelter cat when I was volunteering there and it was blood in the poo and poo outside the LB. Shadow B and at least one other cat I can't remember right now are experiencing colitis. You might want to change the first subject line to include something like Colitis? on it. Or post the question on Feline Health for a wider audience.

Aww, sorry to hear that Tiger is having some troubles today! Give her lots of scritches from me and Billie. cat_pet_icon

Billie was straining and peeing frequent, tiny amounts when I brought her to the vet and she got diagnosed with a UTI a week or so ago. They couldn't get a urine sample from her but diagnosed based on the symptoms. Of course, she was on an immunosuppressant (pred), and that factor also pointed in the UTI direction.

I hope the culture gives you some helpful information, and she feels better soon!!

Ruth

I'm so sorry Tiger is having some issues.

Gracie had sterile interstitial cystitis from a very young age until shortly before she was dx. She never had bacteria or infection. Yes, FDs are more prone to UTIs because if the sugar in the urine. However, Dr. Lisa states that 99% of cases presenting as Tiger....straining, producing small amounts of urine...are due to cystitis with no infection. A sterile sample would have to be collected via cystocentesis and sent to the lab. It's typically due to stress. But Tiger being diabetic certainly warrants checking the urine closely for bacteria.

When Gracie was having a cystitis episode, she'd strain so hard that often a little poop would come out.

Colitis usually presents as a frequent soft pudding stool often with mucous and/or blood. Our Gus had colitis occasionally.

Did the vet send you home with a/bs? The interesting thing about sterile cystitis is it resolves on its own with no a/bs.

I hope she will feel better soon and the tests will be back so you know how to treat it.

Thanks ladies!

Wendy, Dr.Robertson did do a rectal exam, Tiger had pooped late last night, she wasn't constipated. And no blood or diarrhea either. Good idea to post on Health.

Deanna, That's right, Billie had the UTI but was also taking pred, poor little girl! In a way, will have to wait and see what the test results are. Thanks for the scritches!

Hi Marje, My BFF had interstitial cystitis, plus one of my aunties- it is an absolute nightmare and hard to get rid of! Poor Gracie! The vet techs were able to get a sterile sample(not off the table this time) although how Tiger's bladder could have been empty this morning is beyond me! She mentioned culture and sensitivity-I should know something maybe Thursday. No AB's sent home, she wants to be sure it is needed. I am hoping this resolves itself too! When Gracie was straining to urinate and poop came out, was it a clear gel or actual poop? Sorry, TMI   But if it was something like interstitial cystitis, I can imagine she could strain that hard, the urge is impossible to ignore!

Tiger has never had pudding poo, or diarrhea or blood in her stools. She has occasionally coughed up a hairball, which one of the other vets suggested could be IBD. This vet was not a part of the clinic, he was a fill in BTW- he claims Lions and Tigers in the wild never cough up hairballs. So IBD has always been in the back of my mind, although she hasn't vomited or coughed anything up in months. Time to sit on my hands I guess...

She never had a gel but I'm wondering if you mean mucous? It looks like a gel. I can't remember if there was any mucous when she strained but I know some times it would be a tiny bit soft but still formed.

The IM specialist told me that vomiting hair balls is not just something cats do.....in other words, he thinks a healthy cat should, not have hairballs so he does suspect something else if they are throwing up hairballs. It might not be IBD. For example, Gracie has the slightly elevated ALT and she will occasionally vomit small, clear liquid but once in a while, it just happens to have hair or a small hairball in it.

Poor Tiger. It does sound possibly like mucous. I hope she feels better and it is a freak thing and not an infection. The day's events would definitely explain her numbers today. Vines are being sent your way.

Hi Ruth.

I missed seeing this yesterday, and since there's no update yet, I wanted to post here and send lots of healing vines for Tiger. Harvey has had similar symptoms several times. Once it actually was a UTI, but the other times it was just gas! :o Apparently it makes them feel like they have to go, but they don't, so they keep running to the box. Don't know it that's a possibility for Tiger, but if the culture comes back negative, it's another thing to think about.

I hope Tiger is feeling better today. :YMHUG:
