Doodle has an appointment with the cardiologist tomorrow morning.
Despite his number he actually seems a bit better today though his breathing still sounds weird.
I'm having the hardest time describing what I 'm hearing - (crackling? popping? clicking? wheezing? - Jeez I'm not even sure it's not something stuck in his throat or nose - it's just the weirdest thing.

And even though the vet said not to stop, I didn't give him fluids last night - I'm just too worried... And I hope that i'm not causing too much damage by letting him get dehydrated.

I appreciate everyone's support so much! And I also appreciate those of you who have shared their own experiences with their cats. Not that i am happy that anyone has a murmur, but it is comforting to know it's not necessarily as bad as my vet was intimating.
I know Doodle's hyperaldosteronism puts his heart at risk and I'm assuming that is why she is concerned - I'm just hoping that with the cardiologist on board he will have someone more knowledgeable to help me treat him.

I'll let you all know what I find out.
And I promise to try and visit some condos soon.

Re: 10-27 Doodle 1ps = 413

Hi Michelle, I agree - I would be cautious about giving Doodles fluids now too. We skipped 5 days of fluids while we tried to determine if Blackie was absorbing them or not and it did affect his hydration. But I doubt if skipping one day will hurt much (just MHO). I hope the vet will find something easy to fix. Sending healing vines and prayers for Doodle.

This may sound like a totally weird suggestion, but could you audiotape Doodle and send Jess/Earl the audio file? Since she's a cardio specialty tech, she may have some ideas in advance of your appointment on Friday.

Re: 10-27 Doodle 1ps = 413

you and doodle are in our thoughts as well.

and what a great suggestion by sienne...
i would never have thought of that, but so many times our cats refuse to exhibit the behaviors we're concerned about at the vet's.

I will be sending good thoughts to you all at your vet appt .. .I hope the cardiologist can shed some light on this situation for you guys ....

Sending vines for a good vet visit and I will be praying that the vet does not find anything seriously wrong with Doodle.

Re: 10-27 Doodle 1ps = 413

I just got the bloodwork back. It will be faxed to the cardiologist tomorrow and I was told we will likely also see the internal med vet.

His kidney values have deteriorated
BUN - 81.0 mg/dL ......>> (15-34)
Creatinine 4.0 mg/dL ......>> (0.8-2.3)
Phosphorus 5.0 mg/dL ...... (3-7)
Specific Gravity 1.017

His electrolytes have improved
Potassium 4.6 mEq/L ...... (3.9-5.3)
Sodium 153.0 mEq/L ...... (147-156)
Calcium 11.0 mg/dL ..... (8.2-11.8)

His liver values are elevated
Alk. Phosphatas 62.0 U/L ......v (0-62)
Alt (sgpt) 184.0 U/L ....|....>> (28-100)
Cholesterol 322.0 mg/dL ....|....>> (82-218)

T4 3.2 ug/dL ..... (0.5-4.7)
which is up from 2.4 a few months ago, and less than 2.0 a few months prior to that.

He seems to breathing normally - I don't hear anything odd at all right now.

If anyone has any thoughts on bloodwork I'd appreciate hearing it.
We've decided to wait till tomorrow morning to drive to Pensacola in hopes that Brielle ( 3yr old daughter) is in a better mood for a confined car trip

(((Michelle)))

((Doodle)) smoosh smoosh smoosh kiss kiss scritch scritch.

A friend was telling me that her mom used to pack these bags for long car rides and would pull them out at a random time. Inside were snacks, little games, a book, etc. LIke an etch a sketch or a leapster game or something?

Maybe she'll nap too. I still fall asleep at the drop of a hat if I'm in the backseat and someone puts on a radio station with a baseball game on. (zzzzzzzz).

keeping fingers and toes and paws and tails crossed for good news tomorrow.

Hi Michelle

If you could record the weird breathing noise, that would be great. I'm glad youre seeing the internist too. I agree he needs a cardio check before more fluids--any disruption in breathing, plus his history of hypertension put him at risk--but the noises you are describing sound like they might be "upper airway" i.e. throat rather than deep in the lungs. Sometimes cardiac kitties in trouble will make noise from the sheer effort of breathing--they try to drag as much as in as possible since their lungs are compromised. But rice-krispies noises sound more nose/throat. We'll see soon enough.

Oh, and note if the noise is inspiratory (breathing in) or expiratory (breathing out), or both. The difference is important.

Glad to see he likes spironolactone :)

That T4 is creeping up and that's a stinker. An overabundance of T4 also puts pressure on the heart. I know the number is within normal limits, but really the T4 should go down with age rather than up. You can wait till you speak with the internist, but I'd add a Free T4ED. The lab still has the blood so you can run it from your regular vet's lab as it might be more $ at the specialist.

WIll be awaiting your report tomorrow.

no advice on doodle...just hoping for the best...
