? 10/26 Ming in hospital. What dose should his PM be?

NN was thinking doing 5 units. IM specialist said 6 units (but she probably would’ve wanted me to try 6 units at +14 and still give like 9.5 units in the AM ROFL).

*shrug*

I also don’t mind giving his PM shot 1 hour early. I was actually on a 7/7 schedule. And I even had a 6/6 schedule which I liked since I could test him and go to sleep at the same time.

We used humulin in hospital for Ming and injected it IM when his BG was too high. Is that humulin r? Is that what it means to be in bolus?

I don’t have any at home of course or know how to get it.
Is that what the 'IM"s I see on the ss indicate?
Here in the US Humulin R, is a fast acting (in and out in about 4 hours) insulin and can be used along with Lantus. It's available without prescription. not expensive and not fussy. I recommend you get some to keep in your bag of tricks for future. It was a literal lifesaver for my Black Kitty.

Whats your gut feeling?
Ming is sleeping. He will most likely not be eating when we do give his shot. Will this affect anything?
with Lantus you must get food on board. The exact window of time escapes me. The norm is to test, feed and then shoot all within 10-15mins.

As long as you dont shoot earlier than 12 hours from the next shot your good.

Yes. The IM is humulin. Interesting! He was getting 0.07 ml or 7 units of it. It was diluted with saline in a 1:10 ratio.

He’s awake now and I think he will eat now. Maybe not a full meal but something. He was playing with his toys.

I feel like... 5 units will let me sleep but produce high numbers in the AM. And 6 units will need me to be there to save him if he gets low. And since he’s so relaxed he might actually get low low. So 5 units.... I want to say.

What do you think?

Ya I think he’ll eat. He’s rummaging around for food. He found the treats and is pawing at it.

10 minutes until go time!!! I can’t wait to sleep LOL. But of course will stay up/wake up to test. Thank you Sandy for staying up. I’m sorry you had to though :( but again incredibly thankful!!!

I would offer a full meal and if he only eats part of it leave the balance out for him.

Sounds reasonable. truthfully any dose will leave him with high numbers at the end of 18 hours. Your present goal is to get some insulin in him without him bottoming out and along the way figure out a dose that you can shoot consistently every 12 hours.

Ok I’ll stick with 5 units. He’s 14.7 or 265. No difference. He’s eaaaaTing!

Again how often should I test after?

We had our fair share of late night help when we were in the thick of it. It's part of the 'dance'

update the spreadsheet...its very important to keep it up to the minute. we are spreadsheet stalkers:p If you are up grab a +2 or +3 and see if you spot onset. beyond that, let the numbers be your guide. Do get some rest though.
Start a new condo (daily thread) with this next shot. Start your thread with the date, kitty's name, and AMPS and the number. If at any time you need help you can modify your thread header adding ''eyes please"

Good luck! I'll be looking in on your ss

Yes! I’m updating it! I can’t remember if I post here first or the SS but I’ll be sure to update SS first from now on.

He ate all his food. He’s much more energetic right now. Probably because he slept and I don’t really think he likes being that low (at least for now).

I’ll start the new condo!

SS looks great! thanks.
One more housekeeping item - so that folks know what your doing, either place a '+18' in the cell that corresponds to the number you shot or place a note in the remarks section with an explanation..
