Morning, All!

Chester is happy and annoyingly (and endearingly) following me around with his new pride and joy, his red feather toy. He's feeling great, although his amps was pretty high (but not as bad as yesterday). I gave him a pretty substantial pm +4 snack that could definitely be cut back. I'm trying to resist the urge to add the drop back to the 0.5. I'll be off for four days starting Thursday, so he's be poked within an inch of his life. Lucky guy. ;-)

Some thoughts about Chester's "No Good Very Bad Horrible Saturday" and just as strange "Very Happy Sunday"...

Sienne, you suggested that the missed dose of Tramadol could have been the culprit. I actually found another pill he had spit out (but don't know if they were consecutive missed doses...I suspect they were). I talked to my vet about it because it was so strange that he recovered beautifully by the next morning (after, among other things, a definite dose of Tramadol) from feeling SO bad on Saturday. She said that it's VERY possible that that was the cause of his misery. I have a cat who is a drug addict!

I found this on line.... It said "Dogs and Cats," in the heading, not just dogs....

Unless advised by a vet, it is important not to abruptly stop giving tramadol to a dog as withdrawal symptoms can be serious as well.

Re: 10/26 Chester's AMPS 341 and Tramadol Info.

lucky chester, getting a new toy!! What a spoiled little boy huh? Now chester, no reason to be up there on the pink floor, everyone is meeting down on the blue or green floor today ok? Make sure you join them.... have a great day guys!

Re: 10/26 Chester's AMPS 341 and Tramadol Info.

I was kinda afraid that it was the Tramadol. Is there any reason that Chester can't be tapered off gradually?

Hope Chester's #'s come down and that you get it figured out.
Have a wonderful Tuesday

Re: 10/26 Chester's +11=445

YIKES! What a horrible number to come home to! I'd appreciate some suggestions. He seemed perfectly fine and happy this morning. His eyes are still bright but I'm crushed with this number!

editing in As I was just walking my dogs (in the 55+ mph winds!) I remembered that I thought that it might have been possible that Chester got a bit of kibble this morning after breakfast. It wasn't open long, but he did come from the kitchen and when I went in there I saw the bowl was uncovered. He didn't have much time if he did get it, but I'm wondering if that is what is fueling these numbers.

Would it still be holding on this long to +11? It's VERY high carb kibble, though (Feline KD...listed on their website as 34% carbs).

I suppose I should just shoot the 0.5. Thoughts?

As far as weaning him off the Tramadol...I'll see what the vet says. One less pill to give would be nice.

Re: 10/26 Chester's +11=445 ADVICE PLEASE

That red number is not pretty. I know that kibble takes long to get into the system and long to clear so it is a possibility that he could be high from the dry food.
As most here say to me when I whine (not that I am saying you are whining) over a high number......it is only one number and as ugly as it may be it appears that Chester if feeling fine and that is important too.

Re: 10/26 Chester's +11=445 ADVICE PLEASE

if it were me, i would pick a dose and stick with it... whatever it is. adding and/or subtracting even one or two drops changes the dose.

Re: 10/26 Chester's +11=445 ADVICE PLEASE

OMG!!! I think he might have done it again! Ever have one of those "I'm a horrible mother" days.

Honestly, folks....I'm not even going to test him pmps....too afraid to, because I know how high he'll be! I'll get a +3 or +4 but I just can't face the black square on the chart.

Re: 10/26 Chester's +11=445 ADVICE PLEASE

The black square would be pretty disheartening. I thought red was bad enough. Hope your evening gets better Jaye.

Re: 10/26 Chester's +11=445 ADVICE PLEASE

Yup, best to just play like an ostrich and bury my head in the sand for a few hours. Oh...and remember this the next time I yell at my husband for doing the same thing, I guess.

Re: 10/26 Chester's +11=445 ADVICE PLEASE

Oh Jaye, don't feel bad..you aren't alone! Tinkles has a black square on his SS the other day from getting in the dog food and 2 hours later, I gave a fur shot. I ended up with a 580 the next morning. It's only one number....we do the best we can, and that's all we can do. Tomorrow is another day! :YMHUG:

I do agree with Jill, pick a dose and stick with it. Lantus likes consistency.

Re: 10/26 Chester's +11=445 ADVICE PLEASE

I'm another vote for sticking with one dose. I'm also one for getting that pre-shot number no matter what.

Also, could you take the "Advice Please" out of your subject line unless there's something else you need help with?

Wow, that's quite a drop. Good catch. I always wonder how our kitties feel when they have a big drop like that. Does he seem normal? Seems like it couldn't feel good.

That's the weird thing...he's been playing like CRAZY tonight...almost manic about it. He plays like a kitten when he feels good. That's how I knew not to worry too much about the 445 of earlier, that it was a kibble thing and not a sick thing like we had on Saturday because, believe me, when I came home to a 445 my heart dropped.

But he's a very, very happy boy right now.

Which brings up another dilemma...that whole "sticking to one dose" bugaboo...

Because I think the full 0.5 was too much for him. The kibble in there threw a monkey wrench into everything.

holy crow! chester definitely dived!

good catch, jaye...

hope things even out for you two...it's stressful when they pull things out of their hats like this...
i literally had sore stomach muscles after sunday.

Chester...help the bean out, here...
