Not much to report here today...Ms P is doing her thang. Appy remains awesome (anti-jinx!!!), snuggles remain in overdrive, gelcaps have been "holes in one" (also anti-jinx!!). Kitties are thrilled that the heat is on and are all spending their days huddled around (or on top of) heating vents. Their summertime habits VS wintertime habits are so interesting to observe, as they are very consistent from year to year!

Zen woke up at about 3:15am and acted like he heard something outside the bedroom - so, of course I had to investigate. It was 2 hours till breffis, but Miss Trix heard me get up and out of all 5 kitties, she was the only one who started the morning routine - she was ready for pre-breffis snuggles and fuds  ! Even though her appy has been great for a while now, it was still awesome to see her excited about breffis 2 hours ahead of schedule like that. I was very tempted to give her a little snack before I headed BTB, but I knew that would open up a huge can of works with the whole herd (who was still sleepy-headed and in their various sleeping spots) and it would have thrown everyone/everything off for the morning, so I refrained.

No big news with my Dad, either. It seems like he didn't get the flu-like symptoms too badly from the flu shot this time. I've never gotten the shot myself. I've had the flu once (at least I think it was the flu), and while it wasn't pleasant, the reason(s) I'm a skeptic about the shot is because over-vaccination scares me (what are all these repeated vaccines doing to our immune system?), and they are taking a stab in the dark about the strain so it's not guaranteed to be effective, and the media-fueled panic that is created every year really makes me wonder - is it real, or is it Big Pharma looking for some easy money? Yeah, I'm a little cynical sometimes! My Dad is the same way, but this year is a little different, what with the chemo. He got the shot to calm my mother down about it. Even though I'm skeptical for myself, I understand why others get the vaccine.

Anyway....have a great day, LL!

Amy

Happy Friday Amy! Sorry you got woken up early but so glad Trixie was wanting to eat. A kitty that eats makes for a very happy Mama!

Glad your Dad got the flu shot. . . Very important with him going thru Chemo.

Nice day for Trixie again. Love the happy appy even in the middle of the night.

Great news on your dad. Yep. I am very skeptical of the flu shot. We have gotten the flu shot a couple of times after having the shot. Different strain, etc. It is important though with a compromised immune system to get one, just in case they get it right.

Have a great day Amy!

Lovin' Ms. Trixie's numbers and lovin' her appy and behavior even more!

I know I told you my flu story yesterday, and I'm not going to change your mind, but I can't resist one more story: In early 1999 my DH was put on a team whose sole job was to figure out how to protect the company's computer systems from any damage from the Y2K transition. He worked long hours all year on the project and when New Year's Eve came where was he? Flat on his back in the bed, sick as a dog - he'd never gotten a flu shot and was not interested in getting one that year, either! He missed the whole non-event. He started getting shots the next season and hasn't gotten the flu since.

I'm glad your DF got the shot and had no ill-effects. The only issue I've ever had from it was a sore arm.

Sending continued prayers for your DF.

No news is good news, especially w/ a green period at the end of the sentence!

We got the shots this year, they usually have a free senior day all over the county. No reaction for us, but my arm was sore when I lifted things for a couple of days.

Yeah, I admit I have trust issues, especially when something is pushed so hard that it causes public panic. I'm more concerned about the long-term effects than the immediate reactions, since these shots have not been around long enough to have much data proving their long-term safety and efficacy. On top of that, I have a customer whose ex worked for one of the companies who manufactures the vaccines...a few years ago, they couldn't produce enough to keep up with demand so they were basically watering it down....he wouldn't tell her the details, but told her, "You don't want to get the vaccine." Personally, I get sick so rarely that I really can't bring myself to do it....I had a mild cold earlier this year and that is the first illness of any sort that I've had in well over 5 years - and I work with the public and germy gross money every day. I swear, I think it's that exposure that keeps my immune system strong!

What a great report on Trixie. I'm glad your dad didn't get really sick from the flu shot. I have to agree with your take on the flu shot. I think a lot of it is money driven.

Trixie. Looking good! Even hungry at 3:15 a.m. Aha! Thatta girl.

I don't usually get the flu shot, either. Just don't think about it. Pretty impervious to communicable disease. (30 years of teaching built up one heck of an immune system!) But I probably would have gotten one during chemo if the seasons had been right. Everything then is just so compromised.

Gotta love those "not much to report" reports!!! Yahoooo.

I find it interesting that the vaccine recommended for seniors is stronger than the "regular". It should be the other way around, since we old folks have been exposed to many strains of flu over the years and therefore have more immunity. I've heard that flu viruses are rarely totally new. Of course if a strain like the 1918 "Spanish" flu materialized, we would probably all want to get the shot! My father, who was in the Navy in World War I, was stationed in a navy yard. The guys used to play baseball when off duty, and my father told stories of how a guy could be playing baseball one day and dead from the flu the next. They were dropping like flies!

Trixie is looking great! Nice that your kitties have goneninto winter mode.

More vines for your dad,

Hugs and scritches,

I agree, Ella...it IS interesting! My Mom had that stronger vaccine - and had a pretty negative reaction to it! Her arm swelled up, turned bright red, and was very itchy. Fortunately it resolved itself, and fortunately that happened before my Dad had his shot. We relayed her experience to my Dad's oncologist and he said to NOT do the "seniors" flu shot - just do the regular one. Vaccines definitely play an important role in our health....but I admittedly have some doubts!

I think there is way too big a push for all these vaccines. Not just the flu but shingles as well and lately I've seen ads for the pneumonia one too. I think it's all about $$$$. And seniors generally need less medication rather than more so what is that all about????

Trixie is looking oh so beautiful in green!!
