Woke up to my civvie meowing at 3:30am again. This happened yesterday. Her eating hasn't returned to normal. Not eating too much...mainly a little tuna. Will get some chicken this morning and see if that interests her. Hoping its just an adjustment period and nothing else. It seems to be more this morning.

Curry is Curry. Hiss and grrr. She's not liking the EVO after Thursday night force feeding.. I don't blame her...going w/the FF chicken feast classic for now...Didn't find the carb count in Janet's food list on this one. Anyone have an idea????

Gave her .3units this morning. Figured it was easier to measure than .25. Who knows.

Still more boxes to unpack...and clean the old place.

does it say chunky on it?
is it a pate or chunks?
I found a chunky chicken feast on the list (5%)
unless it's a newer one it won't be on there.

I see the 54, retest in half k?

She's not dropping slowly these days. ohmygod_smile

Wasn't a nervous nelly this morning.....Used some FF gravy on her EVO instead of the Karo....Hope that slows her down enough this morning. Will check her at 2.5.

She didn't eat the EVO until I stepped back...she probably thought I was gonna force feed her again...poor kitty.

In regards to the other cat....What do y'all think about me asking the vet for an appetite stimulant? They will be open until 12:00pm...of course if my vet isn't in for me to ask they may want me to bring her in.....$$$$.

might help.
Maybe cross post this question into the health forum for options.
But if your other kitty continues to not eat well, you may be looking at a vet visit.

Have you tried any gravy foods to entice her?

I was going to suggest a +2.5. Good plan. The FF is supposed to be the same as the Gourmet Chicken Feast -- they changed the label/name for the pate style food but Purina says they didn't change the formula -- so it's 4% carb.

An appetite stimulant can't really hurt. If the vet doesn't want to give you either mirtazepine or cyproheptadine, your can try using a probiotic, FortiFlora. A lot of cats love the stuff. My vet refers to it as "kitty crack." Unless the vet has it on hand, I've only been able to find it on-line.

Got some FloriFlora....it expires Nov 31 2010. Will call the vet and see what he/she says.

Curry is surfing(I'm hopeful)...yeah....We are coming up on her nadir time which hopefully means she'll slow down a bit. And I can breathe.

Will get 3.0 and 3.5....she where is going w/this new dose.

So the move may have kicked Mr. P into waking up? :mrgreen: Or the added stress is impacting her glucsoe in a non-typical manner. Ummmm.

Re: civvie...Called the vet. They would give the meds if Sidney wasn't eating at all..of course...I would bring her in for a visit. They also sd pilling her could upset more than its really worth. Which is true w/her....Curry is easier to pill Will give her so of the FortiFlora that had used for Curry awhile back.

Oh Tena no fun! All this with having moved. The numbers are exciting though. Gooo Curry :RAHCAT (I love that cheer cat)!
Is Curry usually finicky with food? I have that problem with Powder. Usually when he won't eat anything else I can get him to eat regular roast turkey lunch meat. I asked to see the ingredients to be sure it didn't have sugar. It's not a long term solution but when I'm nervous at least he will usually eat that. Didn't check the ham I gave him yesterday though and it had sugar in it ohmygod_smile
Powder says thanks for the cudos on his name. He says he likes Curry's name too it's tres spicy and quite original :-D

I think her pancreas has been awake for a while. :smile: We're just supporting it until it is ready to do this on its own.

Next time she's in the 50's, you can try a couple of bites of low carb food and see if that gets her surfing. At these low doses, often LC is enough. Then test after 1/2 hour to see how it worked. You can always gravy her then if the low carb didn't do the trick.

For me, knowing that Lucy could manage her low numbers on her own with the low carb food that I left out for her gave me so much peace of mind when I had to go to work.

so sorry to hear about Sidney - did you ever score the dried chicken? the one from Petco is called Pure Bites and my finicky eater likes it by itself or crumbled on top of his FF. I worry about dehydration for her, have you seen her drink? does the scruff of her neck want to stay tented if you pull it up? have you found your feliway since you moved? if I come up with more ideas, I'll pass them along. I'm going thru this with Pablo from the painters being here. Sid won't eat off your fingers? maybe some plain turkey lunch meat. at least Curry is looking good. keep us posted. in the meantime, wouldn't hurt to get a dipstick on sid, even tho she isn't FD, if she has ketosis from not eating, she might need squids. maybe she'll feel more secure if she can hide in a box as you get them unpacked and you could offer her a little bite while she's in there - I'm just trying to think of anything. just saw Ronnie's note about the gravy - would Sidney eat some gravy?

Thanks Kim...I appreciate the feedback. Of the two cats...Sidney seems to feel the most lost. The only thing she would eat today is the tuna. Its a little but she is eating. I did give her some water yesterday and then later found that her face was wet...think she found the fountain. Yes. I have the feliway...I even let her smell it....Sid is my easily frightened cat. Curry is actually adjusting pretty well even though there is the snorting, hissing and growling. Sid is sleeping/hiding under the chair and Curry is under the sofa. Nice and dark and quiet for them. Its a usual hiding place her. I even delayed having someone come fix the commode today...Just didn't want anymore disturbances for them....I'll have to see if she likes the gravy...did try the FF w/gravy and other canned....Tuna seems to be doing it for her...Might go get some fresh tuna and cook it...less salt that way.

I am hopeful she will not start the meowing at 3:00am tomorrow.....its like she'll walking around lost.

Yeah...Mr. P is working!!!!! I was feeling so very confident about shooting the .9 and 1 units earlier and letting her go into the 50s....then when I moved.....it like eveything changed at once....eating, routines, glucose numbers.....I kinda spazzed and used the Karo since she was dropping more dramatically than usual. Today the drop to the 50's wasn't as frightening since it wasn't as dramatic.....

One of the challenges w/Curry is that she won't eat any canned food that is left out while I'm away...Kibble...oh my...yes, indeed......So I've been coming home at lunch to give a snack to help her surf.....I'm sure down the road she'll get on track w/eating on her own again. Its almost like she can't smell the food very well....and doesn't seem interested. Or she has me trained very, very well. :mrgreen:

Hopefully the Fortiflora will help Sidney. Even Muffin, who hates everything, loves the stuff. Of course not enough to eat anything she doesn't want to eat already, but she sure enjoys it sprinkled on her dry food! I would advise being a bit sparing with it, I think they can get constipated if you give too much for too long. Thanks for stopping by our condo, and I hope both your girls settle down soon.

Curry has decided that she doesn't like the EVO anymore. :(

She is eating. That's good. The FF chicken classic I think have a few more carbs than the EVO, but at least she is eating. And she's not trying to hide as much. That's good. Had planned to do more errands and be a little more productive but sleep was calling my name. Hope Sidney doesn't start the meowing in the middle of the night again....

Sid is only barely eating. She is drinking and exploring while meowing like she is lost. Using the LB. Very affectionate. I might need to spend a little more time w/her. Might get a syringe tonight to feed her if she continues w/this. The force feeding w/Curry was done w/the finger...I'm surprised she didn't bite me. If Sid is still like this on Monday...will take her to the vet....get some drugs. She's not liking anything except the tuna...very little tuna at that. FortiFlora isn't doing it for her either. :YMSIGH:
 
Well...I'm guessing that she will go flat tonight.....And bet the .3 isn't gonna do it for her. I kinda knew that since she was at 1.0 units on Thursday morning. But no kitty drama tonight in terms of rapidly decling glucose numbers. And fewer sticks for Curry. She's happy about that.

I got 2 more feliway gizmos. Paid way too much at Petsmart, but didn't want to wait to get them. I'll probably will never really know if they work since I don't have a control group going on this. However, it makes me feel better that I'm "doing" something to help calm them.
 
Curry - thank you SO much for talking with Muffin. Maybe she'll listen to you. So sorry Sid still isn't eating either. Hope both our girls feel better soon.
