Aren't you doing a food experiment?? Remind me what it is.:)
Yes I am 🙂

The old schedule was:
PS (9%) 60 grams
+1 (9%) 60 grams

The new schedule I started on PM of 10/11 is:
PS (9%) 20 grams
+1 (9%) 50 grams
+2 (9%) 50 grams

Thinking about trying a +9 snack here soon, I don’t think it could hurt to give it a try. I was just trying to give this schedule a few days before making another change.

What about a bit of a higher carb food at preshot rather than more of the 9% carb food??? That way the higher carb might break that sharp dive between preshot and +3 that she consistently has. Just a little higher carb (maybe 20 grams of 10-15% at PS and 20 grams at +1) to smooth out the dive--you could experiment with it. It's just a thought to consider. The sharp drops cause bouncing, so smoothing the drops out--flattening them so to speak--can help the bounce.

Back in July (which I know is Acient history but it’s the only comparison I have), I tried experimenting and did give 14% at PS and +1 followed by LC, at the time I didn’t see a difference in slowing down the drop. And then she began to reject LC after getting gravy. Picky cat 🙄 I love her but man her pickiness will be the death of me.
I’ll admit tho, my last food experiment was a bit chaotic and not thought out well so it might be worth trying again.

You’ve be doing this dance much longer than me but I’m not entirely convinced the high PSs are bounces. At least they don’t look like any other cat I’ve seen bounces. Christie mentioned possible loss of duration awhile back, which in my (novice) opinion is what I believe is happening. But I’ve been wrong many times before so I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m wrong about this too.

I’m rambling at this point but my other thought was this Lantus vial is alittle over 4 months old. It’s my first vial so I don’t know how to spot it but maybe it’s loss of potency?

I would get a new vial.

It’s one of two things with those higher preshots: a loss of duration or bouncing. I would try again to see if you can slow down the dive from preshot to +3 with food. If you’re consistent with it, and if it doesn’t stop the end cycle increases, you might assume then that it’s a duration issue. You can mix LC with MC or HC to get a higher carb food. You can also experiment with smaller amounts of HC at a time (so she won’t reject the LC after getting gravy). These are just ideas/thoughts. I occasionally see changes with food manipulation, but not always.

Sara, I think you’re right that her cycles don’t have the typical bounces—they have high end cycle numbers, so I see why Christie suggested a loss of duration being the culprit. So, if the food experiment doesn’t work (and I’m not pressuring you to do it), then what can be done about a loss of duration. That’s a question for someone with more experience than me.

Oh I don’t feel any pressure at all! I appreciate your insight honestly! And I have some Lantus pens, I’ll give them a try. I do kinda feel the vial lost its “umph” around the 3 month mark.

I do mix 4% with a 14% to make the 9%, so it shouldn’t be a big deal to just mix it differently. Back to being a kitty personal chef!

I’m so tired of high pre-shots so I’m willing to try anything. I even asked my civvie to pull out her inner Blair and use some magic kitty healing powers. Well you can see.. she didn’t seem to get the message.

Thank you again Mary! 🙂

I was thinking about Khloe today and wanted to suggest to you that you search the forum for "loss of duration" to read what others have said about it, and perhaps to learn what people have tried. I saw a post (I think it was Christie) that mentioned feeding too close to the nadir can interfere with duration, but I don't think you're doing that.
