WRC: P's are all there. One happy cat after eating this morning. No food since +6 last night.

Good Morning LL Buddies,

Could one of our sugar kitties please show Gandolf the door to the 2nd floor. He took a wrong turn and went up to the 4th! What's up Gandy? He sent dear Miss Linda and Brave Mr. Bear Man a beautiful message last night, ask me to send it and the pooter ate it. Then mama bean attempted to do a profile and got totally lost in techy land and after an hour (or more), crawled out of that maze(with absolutely nothing to show for it) and into bed. Then he decides he's going to hang out on the 4th floor. (mad?) Mama bean's been up most the night doing the sugardance with him @-) and well....thank God it's a new day.

Ordered the auto feeder last night. Can hardly wait till it gets here. Dear Lord, help it to work.

drinking24 Here's to a better day and night...starting now.

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 (1.75U)

Good luck with the increase...let's see some nicer numbers now Gandolf.
What is your feeding schedule like now?

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 (1.75U)

I could never have an autofeeder.

One of my cats, Lucky would eat it ALL and the other cats would get none. My skinniest cat. lol
He has gotten pretty thin and he is hungry all the time.

Recently checked his BG and it is normal, had bloodwork done about a yr ago because of his weight loss, and all was fine.

When I feed my Ginger and her brother Babibear, I have to keep pulling Lucky away because he eats his food then goes after theirs.

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 +2 245 Calibration?

Way to go! Yay! But I have an embarrassing confession  The ReliOn's calibration thingee fell out of the box as I was tossing it in the trash and I realised...I did not calibrate the meter for the new test strips I got. Says you need to do it with each box of new strips or might not get an accurate reading

So my question is..just how much effect can this have on the readings? Could that be the reason for the pink?
This is embarrassing...I suppose I will get this down. Hopefully sooner than later.

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 +2 245 Calibration?

Not too sure on the meter. I had done this once, and really didn't notice too much of a difference. back then though I was really a newbie and trying to figure this all out. I don't use that meter either, so sorry - no clue on how significant that is.

Nice start today for Gandolf. A nice drop at +2 too - looks like maybe he is looking for better numbers. Go Gandolf!

So sorry on the techno stuff. Eventually it all comes together - or so I keep telling myself. And yes - I too hate loosing posts.... Hope it all gets better for you soon.

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 +2 245 Calibration?

Cee which meter did you get? I have the Confirm and didn't see a calibration thingee. I hope I didn't miss it but I didn't see anything in the booklet about it. I'm going back to check. They're sending me a replacement meter it will be awful if I omitted a step

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 +2 245 Calibration?

We're using the ReliOn Ultima. I like it a lot. Easy to use, stays on till while I'm getting situated with Gandolf, works fast, and just a little bitty blood bead needed. Plus I got 5 seconds to try again with the same strip if he wiggles (haven't matched that yet but we're working on it) - and I have to give credit to Gandolf, he's a real sweetie cooperating with me on all this.

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 +2 245 Calibration?

I plan to buy the ReliOn Confirm so read the pfd instruction booklet online
I did not see in there where you need to do a calibration for each new box of test strips.

I did see this tho

Use ReliOn® Confirm/micro CONTROL to check if:
• the meter and test strips are working correctly as a system.
• you are testing correctly.
To order control solution, call ReliOn® at 800.631.0076

Now I just checked the ReliOn Utima instruction booklet http://www.relion.com/diabetes/Ultima_Instruction_Manual.pdf and it did state to do that with each new box of test strips on page 14.

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 +2 245 Calibration?

Good luck with the auto feeder I had ordered 2 of the catmate 2 compartment ones thinking to use them A LOT for Do Lou and his majesty will not use them so I then proceeded to order the petmate 5 compartment thinking if it did not have a lid to pop up he would be OK see Do Lou is blind so I was thinking the lid thing spooked him well he has a bit of sight but its not much anyway sure wish you the best on the feeder thingy I am still trying to get my boy to accept his he is just so darn picky. Nice +2 moving the right way

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 +2 245 +5 205 +6 233

Yeah, we're gonna gamble on the feeder. We realize it's risky. But my boy here is very easy going and is food-driven (besides cuddling) so we're going to give it a try. What a day and age we live in. Imagine. An auto-feeder!

Having said that: two very positive things I've definitely noticed today, "Caturday"

1). He's not at his bowl or the bathroom sink or the planter trays guzzling up water. Wow!
2) His skin is so less flaky. (can't say the same for his mama bean) I know, kinda gross, but let me tell you, I hesitated to touch him sometimes because he seemed to have a skin issue - yuk!--poor thing- which has very significantly disappeared. Amazing! He's had that issue for years. Of course, he's been on dried food for years (and for which I personally believe is pretty much the reason for the diabetes, the skin issue, and basically cat body corruption. And, of course, that also exposes my lack of knowledge and understanding.
Alas, too late. I had recently become more concerned about his eating the more I became aware of my own, I figured flesh is flesh, and, I think it's proved true. So now we deal with it.

All I'm saying is: I'm happy his numbers are down, I am praising God for finding this forum with your expert guidance and support, and I see good changes in my cat's body. And that's in approximately 2 weeks time. That's all I'm saying. Just like with beans, food matters. I wanted to share these observations with you. I am amazed. I walked up to a young woman in PetSmart yesterday, she had a darling kitty in her hand. I told her about you all. This site and forum. My experience. That's all I can do. Every single person in the cat area had dry food in their cart. I restrained my self from walking up o several strangers and telling them "...for lack of knowledge my "kitties" are destroyed". Ok,Ok, coming off the white horse, but I'm mad. Just like I'm mad about what crap does to bean's bodies.
On the other side, that with a good deal of know-how (which I'm am learning here, thanks to all of y'all), with the right tools and medication and coaching (I believe in coaching), how well we can manage (and downright defend) ourselves and our beautiful precious little beasts. That's all I'm saying. What an education.

Thank you all.

OK. Thank you for letting me vent. Got oodles to do.
Also: Going "green" is good right? We want to get stabilized in the green, on the first floor, right? We want to take our sugar kitty there without the dramatic "nose dives" but that's where we want their BG to be....ultimately , without the insulin even, if possible, right? Correct me if I'm wrong, please. That is my intention.

You know, I really want to thank you all for helping me understand this, implement it, and all for all moral support. I will continue to tell friends and strangers about this site.

Will post again later; Gandolf is having a really good day. TYJ!

Re: 10/09/10 Gandolf AMPS 314 +2 245 +5 205 +6 233

I'm soooo happy Gandolf is doing so well! I too was amazed with 1) how many of the things Muffin was doing were related to being diabetic; and 2) how quickly she improved after diagnosis. What a great feeling it is to see them improving, feeling better, and their old behaviors returning, many that I hadn't even realized had gone away until she started them again. I second your thankfulness for this board and all the wonderful people here, the support, guidance, knowledge, and caring are amazing.

I've only so far spoken with one person in the cat food aisle regarding the evils of dry food, but I have done it several times in the lobby of the vets office!
