Shadow's vet visit 12/26

Hello.
I've been delinquent keeping my posts all linked so I thought I'd correct that....

Shadow's last meal will be tonight at 8:45 pm....
She will be so unhappy tomorrow morning with no breakfast.
I will take her out there by 8:30 am and the vet will give her the pre-sedative to relax her a bit. I hold her until the moment he is ready to put her under.
It's our arrangement to keep her as calm as we can. She freaks out if she is put in a cage and her heart rate races, not so good for surgery.

I hope the tail part is super easy so he can also have time to pull a tooth, IF she needs any.
It's tail first, xrays on teeth and clean them.... and if there are any cracked teeth... pull.
I so don't want to have to take her back again for another anesthesia/surgery if he finds any cracked teeth ( feline resorptive lesions) but the clock ticks fast when
she's under.
This is her 8th surgery.
she hates it so much... and I don't blame her.
But it's necessary.
I am worried of course so I appreciate all the prayers and good dental vines....

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

I just saw your post & previous ones Rhiannon. I am so sorry about your mom! How terrible to have that happen around the holidays especially. Every year it ruins that day for you. It just adds an extra dimension to the grief and loss you feel anyway. My deepest condolences to you and yours. I hope your DGM lives nearby so you can comfort each other. Think of all the wonderful times if you can rather than when she was sick. Hang in there.

I'm sorry you and Shadow are going through a surgery again too. What a drag! I hope it turns out to be non-malignant. The tail is probably the best place for it as far as having the problem removed whatever it is though. If worse comes to worse, she will do fine without the tail if they have to take it and the chances of it spreading shouldn't be so great with the tail. I'm sure Shadow will be fine though I know it's impossible not to worry. I go nuts when my babies go under anesthesia too. Try to relax and have good thoughts. I hope nothing is wrong with her teeth and it comes down to just a good cleaning. It's great that he might be able to do both. My thoughts and best wishes will be with you tomorrow.

Lots of hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Rhiannon, I will offer up lots of prayers for a good surgery for Shadow, and for peace of mind for you.
I'm holding you both in my heart. *insert big heart emoticon here*

Hugs and scritches
Barb

(((Rhiannon)))
I'm sending tons of prayers for successful surgery and smooth recovery.
And comforting vines to you, Rhiannon.
I'm keeping positive thoughts for both you you!

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

I'll be praying for a successful and quick surgery and dental cleaning, and that she doesn't have to come back for another surgery on her tail, or her teeth in the near future.. Sending hugs to you, and as much comfort as possible to you both for tomorrow.

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Piling on the vines for sweet Shadow tomorrow. Hoping all goes smoothly. Try to get some rest tonight - yeah right...It will all be over before you know it!

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

I hate the fasting of the cat...poor babies. It's good that you can get it all done at the same time. Sending many vines your way, for a good surgery :-D :YMHUG:

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Sending prayers for all y'all tomorrow and beyond. You've been through so much as of late. HUGS!!!

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Sending tons of vetty vines for Shadow and paws crossed that the growth is just a growth,

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Sending all the good vines I can! Good travel vines, good surgery vines, good dental vines, well you get the idea...
I hope tomorrow goes smoothly and quickly for you and Shadow.

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Adding more prayers and good dental, biopsy and anesthesia vines from here Rhiannon.

Shadow has been through a lot, and so have you, but that just shows you're both fighters. Wish we could all be there with you to give you real hugs, but the virtual ones will have to do.

(((Shadow & Rhiannon)))

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Still more prayers and good vetty vines for Shadow. Hope they will have time to do everything that needs doing and the recovery is swift and uneventful. My kitties always know something's up when the food and water disappear at midnight and breakfast isn't served at the usual time. I hope Shadow doesn't live up to her name and make herself hard to see! I have a couple of kitties that do that!

I'll be watching for a good report tomorrow. Stay strong! :YMHUG:

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Adding my vines for successful, quick, surgery & dental. And hoping she is not too upset at no breffis  ((Rhiannon))

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

(((Rhiannon & Shadow)))),
Just chiming in & adding my thoughts, wishes & prayers for you & Shadow. You've been through so much so far & its time for a break. I totally understand how you feel about the surgery - extra stress on our kitties isn't what they need now. But - I'm glad your vet lets you stay & hold Shadow up to the last minute - that really makes it better - for you both.

I'm sending vines & adding to Ann's thought
a growth is just a growth
. Also, that Shadow is able to get a complete dental done with a good report there as well.

Keep up posted.

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

I will be thinking of you guys today. Positive thoughts for a successful surgery, and that the vet will be able to get all done that needs to be. I am glad you will be able to hold and comfort her for as long as possible. Hugs to you.

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Thinking good thoughts for today, Rhiannon. Sending all the best vines for a successful vetty visit.

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 1/8 Shadow - surgery in the morning

Sending good vibes for a smooth and easy procedure for Shadow and as little worry and stress as possible for you.
It will be such a relief to have things taken care of and out of the way. Know it's scary but she'll be back home in no time.
And good news is they forget they were hungry. :)

Here's to successful everything and quick healing.

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery started around 9 am -MST

Shadow was extra hungry today.
I woke up at 4 am... she and I sat up at the computer for a couple of hours.... then when my DH got up, she and I went back to bed. (well, I did)
she paced.
My DGM heard her ( shadow started meowing because she heard my DGM get up) and tried to open my bedroom door. cat(2)_steam
I think she forgot to let us be this morning....
I gave up ... got up and took away all dog food....

Drove Shadow out to vet and waited with her until Dr. Bob was ready to start.

Now I wait for the phone call that it's all done.... :YMSIGH:

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery started around 9 am -MST

Surgery is over...
he thinks it truly looks like a cyst but said let's wait for the pathology report.... should be a few days to a week....to be certain of what it was.

did the dental xrays... cleaned her teeth....
thinks there may be 2 roots that are suspect.... but didn't want to keep her any longer under the anesthesia.
So maybe we should re-visit the tooth removal possibility in about 6 months. cat(2)_steam
DRAT!!!
I so wished he would have had his "get'r'done" hat on and just pulled anything suspect. She only has a few teeth left anyway.

Her bg was 143 before he pre-sedated her ( have to ask with what meter- assuming alpha trak) and she was quite stressed so no worry there.

He thought I might want to come sit with her as she wakes up but I told him I'd rather let them do their post surgery observation since they won't let me have her for a few more hours.
She's groggy... but in a cage... sleeping it off.

I'll eat breakfast, shower and I should be able to get her in 3-4 hours.
hope she doesn't need her cone.... I don't know where it is....

So Whew!!!
but Drat!! :-D

Thank you so much for supporting us!!!

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

Rhiannon, I glad that surgery went well and it just looks like a cyst. I bet you can't wait to see Shadow.

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

I'm so glad the surgery went well and the vet thinks it's just a cyst. Sorry she may have to be sedated again for her teeth.

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

Woo hoo, I'm so relieved for you that the surgery is over! Sorry about the teeth possible thing...sending many good vines towards that test on the would be cyst! Hugs to you, I know it's hard when you have to wait to get them :YMHUG:

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

Woohooooo - what a reliefl! I'm sorry they didn't do the teeth, but maybe it is best that she wasn't under for too long. Sending tons and tons of prayers for a quick recovery and perfect pathology!!!

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

Yay that she came through the surgery so well, :RAHCAT and double yay on it being a cyst :RAHCAT :RAHCAT. In my experience they don't tell you that unless they're pretty sure they're right. Paws crossed, anyway, for insurance. :-D

Too bad you have to wait on the teeth, but if they're only suspect, maybe they aren't bad enough to be pulled. Six months is a long time.

Sending good vines that recovery goes well and toothies get to stay put!

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

What a relief that it's over!!! I'm glad Shadow did well. I look forward to hearing the pathology report say it's just a cyst!!

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

Phew! Glad all of that is over and the prospects look promising. Hope she is feeling better soon.

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

(((Rhiannon)))
Glad that's over and fingers tightly crossed on the cyst. Double drat on the possible teeth removal but bravo to your vet for thinking safety first. I know how frustrating it can be though! :?
Feel better soon Shadow cat_pet_icon

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

Me too me too, I want to join in on the Wooooohoooooooo for Shadow, I'm so glad it's over and she's resting. I'm praying also that the pathology report brings you nothing but good news. Feel better vines for a quick recovery sweetie :YMHUG:

Re: 1/9 Shadow - surgery over

she's home and she really has her grump on.
she ate a bit and went straight to licking... of which, I keep saying no... and stopping her.... I let her lick all but the stitches which have to come out by the vet in two weeks...
growl, growl, growl....
how dare I?

she wants to bathe the whole back end so I'm watching her but she keeps circling the stitches....
I'm sure it's itchy...
they shaved her tail.... she's got a lion's doo...
I'll try to get a picture...
my dd went to get me another cone.... I can't find hers anywhere.... and I'm sure I can't trust her tonite while I sleep.

she's always so agitated after a surgery.... :?

Re: 1/9 Shadow - she's home.... extra grumpy

(((Rhiannon))), I am glad Shadow is back home, although not so happy about the grumpy. But it does sound like you expected that. How many stitches does she have? I hope you can get a soft cone that will prevent her from licking them.

I do want to see the picture of the lion's do, although Shadow probably won't want you taking that picture. Paws crossed here it was just a tail cyst.

Poor baby! I hope the only thing that's hurting is her vanity!
Tell her she makes a very handsome lion!
I feel so badly when kitty has to wear a cone. Watching them try to eat is a hoot - and messy!
I hope she heals up fast.

Hi Rhiannon,
I'm really glad that the whole thing went well. It's probably just as well that you don't also have a sore mouth to deal with. Sending lots of "be comfortable" vines to Shadow tonight and sweet dreams to you.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

That's great news that it's probably just a cyst... Shame about the dental though.

What a funny tail pic! It reminds me of something, not sure what. She is such a cute girl...

Wendy

(((Rhiannon)))
I am so glad it's over and Shadow's home. cat_pet_icon
And I'm glad she's calming down.
Sending lots of prayers for good pathology report.
