Previous thread!

Haven't posted much as I spent the first days of the new year with a cold (better now!) and have since been busy with work and preparing for our upcoming trip next Friday. Rover is booked, friends coming over for mid-cycle snacks all arranged, Libre application and vacation dose planned, etc.

Just wanted to check in! Hope everyone is doing well!

Good to see you - and glad you're feeling better! Esse's looking good as well. 💙💚

Sounds like we're traveling around the same time! How long are you away for? This will be my first trip away from Gen since diagnosis, so I'm a little nervous, though I've found a sitter via Meowtel who seems really great. (Are you using a sitter you've had experience with before? Or is this a new one from Rover?)

One thing I've been pondering is the Libre ... I'm going to have to remove his current one a little early since it's currently set to end before I get back. Any tips for handling that? I was thinking I should do the application with a couple of days' buffer in case something goes funny with it. I only have two on hand right now, so I want to be careful!

We'll be leaving the evening of 1/16 and coming home the afternoon of 1/22. This is our second trip since starting insulin, but unlike when we traveled in October it would be very difficult to come home early. We're using a different Rover than last time, but only because she wasn't available. The new Rover person has vet assistant experience and also sits for another diabetic cat so I'm feeling good about her. She came over for the meet & greet during shot time so I actually got to demo our injection routine, which was nice!

Sam and I have also discussed this extensively, lol, and had slightly different ideas about it. Our compromised plan revolves around the fact that our Libres have been tending to end very early recently... So we applied a new one yesterday and will replace it 'early' (if it hasn't failed already) on the day of our departure. We rarely have issues during application--LUCKILY, anti-jinx anti-jinx--so I'm not super worried about that part. Mostly we're trying to avoid having it fail early while we're gone, since that will mean no more insulin 'til we get back. We are very thankful that cost/accessibility of Libres is not much of a factor for us so it's okay if we're 'wasting' some Libre days.

Thank you for your thoughts! My trip's shorter (I'm getting back 1/18), but it will also be rather difficult for me to come home early. Fingers crossed that things go smoothly for all of us!

The Meowtel guy I've hired used to have a diabetic dog of his own, and has enthusiastic reviews from several diabetic cat owners attesting to his handling of insulin etc, so I'm hopeful about that part. The Libre is my biggest concern right now. Or possibly a messy poop situation. But I'm going to do what I can to prepare for both/either.

I'm sorry your Libres have been dying early! I'm glad you haven't paid as much for them, but it's still annoying. I think Gen's current one may be a little wonky (it's having a lot more random temporary gaps than the last one did), but so far it's holding, thankfully. I suspect that the one that fell off after two days was due to a shoddy application on my part, so that's my current area of concern. Who knows, really.

Happy new year, Lauren 🤗

Enjoy the trip!! Sounds like you two have it figured out well and Esse will be in good hands. I’ve used someone from Rover too and it’s worked out well!

Also, Esse looking dashing as always 😻

Exciting and I hope you're going somewhere warm?
Good luck with the new Libre and the Rover person. Trust me, I know how nerve wracking it is to leave our babies in other people's care. Amd I travel for work all the time (although it's a bit easier right meow with Nestle being in remission, but still)

Esse of course looks very handsome in his bunny? Shirt. I was trying to make out that small animal print
Happy Furrrrrriday 🙋🏻‍♀️🥰🐈🤗💕

I am thrilled for you, this is what we were looking for but we haven't found anyone that experienced yet!! I really want to ask the techs at our vet's office next time I'm there, that is my other dream scenario. I'm too nervous to cold-call them, lol.

Yes, it's a music festival on a cruise sailing from Miami to the Bahamas. It's been very gray and kinda rainy here the last few days so I'm soooo ready for blue skies. (And yes, the shirt is bunnies!)

Aww. I was actually recommended Meowtel (and Rover, but I started with the cat-only one) after asking my vet techs; none of them had availability. They were super nice about it! I bet yours would be too. I found it a bit more daunting to ask a stranger, but my vet's office is tiny and at this point I know all the vet techs by sight and most by name.

Ooh, I have tropical envy. I'm just doing a local weekend getaway with some friends. It will be nice and cozy indoors, but I am pining for some blue skies and warm weather ... I spent a few days in Puerto Rico a couple Februarys ago, and wish I could do something like it again. 😭 Not this year, though, with Gen's health rather precarious and me broke from his care. I hope you have a fantastic time!
