Hi all, Chispa surprised me today with a low number during an online work meeting. Luckily my coworkers are pet lovers and understood when I carried the laptop to the kitchen to warm up her rice sock, then to the testing spot, then back to the kitchen to dole out a package of MC 13%, never missing a beat in the conversation. She used her Ancient Cat Wisdom to eat only as much MC as she needed, then curled up for a nap on the sofa to recover her equilibrium.

Here is my question: Since eliminating chicken from her diet, she has been pooping 2-3x/day (normal poop, not diarrhea). A friend suggested this could be her body's way of detoxing from the chicken. Does anyone know?

The same friend wonders if her on-and-off vision loss could be related to daily BG fluctuations. Her eyes have been examined repeatedly by a vet opthamologist and two internists, who see no physical changes to explain it. I am going to start testing when I see her bumping into walls to find out if there's a pattern.

Hope everyone's week is off to a great start! :bighug::cat:

My IBD kitty didn't show any difference in her pooping behaviour when I figured out what food she couldn't eat. Did Chispa have diarrhea before the diet change? What food is Chispa eating now? I though Weruva was mostly chicken, that's what is in the signature.

I've also not seen anyone notice on and off vision loss issues, much less related to BG levels. Glad to hear she's been seen by opthamologists. Good idea to see if you can find a pattern.

Hi Karen :)
Nice of your colleagues to be patient while you carried them around the house :joyful:
And wise Chispa takes what she needs and stops. Such a smart cutie.
I think that a normal cat poops twice a day. Cats have a fast metabolism. Did she use to poop 2-3x a day before dx? or is it new?
It could be a detox process just like we would release excess stuff from our body. I guess you'll get clarity when you see if it stops or continues :bighug::bighug::bighug:

@Wendy&Neko @Fistuk & Shelly
Thank you both for weighing in on the pooping question. Before the diet change she would go once a day, usually in the morning, and the only recent diarrhea she's had was the result of antibiotics following her dental extractions in late Nov. The character of her poop is unchanged; it's just happening twice as often.

Wendy, you're right about my signature being incorrect (I've since changed it) -- her main diet is actually Instinct rabbit paté now. I also keep Weruva BFF 13% pouches on hand for when I need to prop her up with MC, as yesterday. There are some non-chicken BFF offerings, but that brings me to another question: Is a cat that is allergic to chicken also going to be bothered by turkey or duck? It seems logical to me, but I also feel like the vet would have said to avoid any poultry if that was the case.

Well if he's poop is normal than I wouldn't worry about it. And it could be that he pooped once a day before but now on LC diet and eliminating food that's not good for Chispa means that her gut is working really well. You know, humans are supposed to poop 2-3 times a day as well. Most people who poop once a day think they're really healthy but that's modern life for you-very toxic and not much knowledge about healthy gut.

I'm not an allergy expert but if I go with what I know and my own allergies I'd say that allergy to chicken doesn't mean allergy to other poultry but it might be she'll be sensitive to turkey. I have an allergy to onions. I can take some spring onions, I won't have the same reaction but I'm intolerant. Unfortunately I'm not expecting vets to think straight so I'd suggest you ask her.
The last time I was with Fistuk at the hospital the vet prescribed PB. When I got home I discovered it had sugar. I asked her how come she prescribed PB with sugar to a diabetic cat. She said they've never had problems with that in the past :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Maybe, maybe not, ECID. My girl can do turkey and duck, but I try to avoid chicken. I've heard of some where all poultry is a big no. My vet has mentioned that turkey and rabbit are often a good combo - she also has an IBD kitty.
Again, thank you both (belatedly; sorry)! I need to schedule a follow-up appointment in a couple of weeks and will definiteluy ask about it, but figured I’d tap the formidable knowledge of the FDMB first. :bighug::bighug:
