I thought that going to bid dosing on the pred and increasing his insulin dose would do good things, but it doesn't look that way.

If you are dosing the pred BID, do you think you may need to bump up Bear's insulin to offset the more constant level of steroid? If the half life of the pred is close to that of Lantus, you'll get higher BG only in the cycle you're giving the pred with an SID dose. It would make sense that if you're giving pred BID, you may need more insulin overall to counter the effect of the pred.
