from yesterday.... viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4579

Tested and shot this am before getting onto computer. Now I see that Libby said to add drop back in and now it's too late. I had said I would be home for the next 4 cycles but that was yesterday afternoon so it's now down to 2. Will see how tonight goes and if JoJo gets back to me and possibly still increase tonight - it's riskier to do now since it's the beginning of the work week. I did get up to test a +10
and he had blue nos. for 16 straight hours. It was not a typical cycle for him though. He does not do well with so much testing like I did in the last 24 hours... pissed off hissing, scratching me, angry as can be - especially since he's already upset about being inside with his 5 other siblings from the snow plus his visiting cousin under the bed. This disease is taking its' toll on his personality and sense of self and being mad at me is the one thing he can do to remind me of the grand noble tiger he has always been.

Re: 1/31 Angel's amps~266

Was hoping yo'd put that drop on this morning as I suggested last night, not a problem though.
Getting that +10 was great

Can you just at least get a sc around nadir? See what impact the dose is having? I know you've only got 2 more shots till going back to work but I think if your going to do it, you need to add that drop tonight. He pretty mush surfed last night which is good. Now we want him to surf at slightly lower numbers.

Did you give him any food between +8 last night and amps? If so when?

Re: 1/31 Angel's amps~266,+4~103

Hmmmm... now it's looking like it's probably good I didn't see about the increase first thing this am. (Sorry Kate, I stumbled out of bed tested and shot. It takes a while to get my computer up and going first thing in the morning and I usually don't have overnight replies to check.) I'll get more tests in today and we'll see what's up. Angel free feeds MOST of the time or if what was left out is all gone I give snacks on demand when I'm home. To answer your question about eating after +8 --- he got a snack when I got up to test him at pm+10. There was no way not to let him have something after both of us getting up at 4:30 am  WCR: He's been out in the snow a few times this morning and seems more content now about having to lie around inside.

ps. kate, does sc mean spot check?

Re: 1/31 Angel's amps~266 +4~103

Super!!

SC=yes, spot check.

Can you get a +6?
That snack at +10, good idea. Do you normally give him anything around then?
If not, could you? Timed feeder?
Might just help even his pre shot numbers a little. I'm a big advocate of using food to give nice gentle curves with surfs.

Get at least a +11 and then can make decision as to whether he does need another drop (+6 will add to that decision)

Ahh playing in the snow. Am dog sitting and Zaky has had a whale of a time in it too

Re: 1/31 Angel's amps~266 +4~103,+6~41

WEll, don't think we'll be adding the drop back in tonight, Kate! He's eating LC right now; I don't think given it's at nadir that he needs HC; someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: 1/31 Angel's amps~266 ...+9~73

Well, he's had a nice green surf going on ... no need for dose increases here! I swear sometimes all it takes is for me to get started on the subject of a dose not holding and he straightens his nos. out in a hurry. This makes me look and feel so foolish, but hey I can live with that and be very happy.

Does anyone else know how hard it is get blood from an ear that's been out in the 23 degree snow?

Re: 1/31 Angel's amps~266 ...+6~41...+9~73

Finally!!!

Been trying to ost ofr the last hour or so-puter probs.

That's great news Lyn-obviously need to threaten more often.
Remember to make extra notes of feeding etc-helps you (and me!) looking for patterns.

Yep can imagine that temp makes it hard-Lucky would take one look at the snow and be staright back in!!

Don't feel foolish at all. To me it also means maybe subconsciously you were thinking he might go lower by delaying an increase. Have faith in your gut instincts too, remember you can see and touch Angel.

Good job-More Green please Angel!

ps-can't remember was it you we suggested a small snack around +9/10? that could help stimuate his pancreas and keep a gentler curve.

Blue ps for my boy. Will make sure he has a +9 or +10 snack. VERY hard to regulate food around here with 6 animals in the house. His is up on the kitchen counter where dogs can't reach it. I leave plenty out for all night snacking but never know exactly what time at night it all goes away. I guess I'll have to get up and refill it at 4:00am if needed. I noticed he purred a lot more today with these nicer lower nos.

Oh would someone tell me how eating, when the nos. are on the end of the cycle heading up, will smooth out the curve? I'm just not sure my brain gets how rising nos. would go down with food. :? It can't work the same way as how falling nos. come up with food so how can food serve both purposes? I'm sure others could learn from an explanation as well.

I think the little snacks keep the numbers up...instead of waiting for the pancreas action 3/4 hours after food.
Little small meals for the 3 hours (or in your case...2 hours) will get the PMPS number higher -- a tiny food spike
each hour. Does that make sense?
Ronnie and Luna had to deal with falling numbers at the beginning of the cycle every day after breffis. She gave him a smaller amount of food for breffis and then a snack at +1 and +2 ...mini meals....that kept the food spike going in a gentler way so he didn't go too low. She can probably explain it better...Miriam and Putty are going to do the same thing to try to keep his numbers up at the beginning.....you need to keep them up at the end. Was that as clear as mud? I tried...

Hi Lynn
I will see if I can answer your question you asked in our condo about the new experiment with Putty. He will have yellows and pinks for a couple of days then he will have a high ps then drop to the 40's and bounce pretty high from that number which he had not really done in the past. There have been a few times recently when he goes low it is very low like in the 20's and 30's so his bounce is usually back to pink.
I had always fed him at shot time, +4,+8 with a few snacks in between. This is the first experiment and if this does not work then we can move on to something else.
I am not sure why some things work for some and not for others. I think with Putty I am home to monitor during the day and his food can be a little more controlled. He is also the only cat here so he is not competing for food.
It might be a little more difficult with your schedule. I am not sure if this really answered any of your questions. I guess it is all trial and error to see what works best considering that ECID. dancing_cat

Lynn -

I'm going to take a stab at the question you posed in Miriam's condo. I think feeding early in the cycle is a way of feeding the curve during the time when the insulin is most active. In that regard, it may soften the bounces. I suspect you may need to experiment with a snack late in the cycle to see if it works to stimulate Angel's pancreas and help to bring numbers down by PS.

Does that shed any light?
