Good evening,
we had a pink day. I don't know if it was a bounce from the blue numbers yesterday or the inflammation coming back. Binie started licking her belly again, which is not a good sign.
We got the antibiogram today. The tree germs which have been diagnosed in her urine in December are still there in a very huge number. To make things worse, she developed new resistances. So the two possible antibiotics which worked for all three germs before, now only work for one or two germs.
Tomorrow I will see the vet and she was so kind to speak to a specialist today. She already wrote me that he recommended another antibiotic, which will work for two of the germs, for one only if given in a higher dose. So at least we have something left in our toolbox and I am more than grateful. Not a great option, but something. And we will talk about better pain management. I don't want to see Binie in that much pain anymore.
What I learned the hard way now: Please! Think twice if your vet tells you, your cat needs antibiotics. Ask questions about alternatives. Of course you should give them if really necessary. Antibiotics safe lifes. Always make an antibiogram. Resistances are real. Adverse reactions to antibiotics are real. For cats and for humans. No one wants to euthanize their cat, because you don't have treatment options for a simple UTI any more.
Thank you so much for the kind words and support under my last post. I appreciate that so, so much.
