From yesterday's post:
In that cell, you could put "357;0.5U L". It was Lantus they gave? That's why I said "L". You'd then have to manually colour the cell with the paint tool icon. You could still put something in the Remarks saying it was the vet clinic that gave it.
Regarding other pain relief, Onsior is only supposed to be given 3 days post operation, so the question is whether you have something available after that. Which I think would be tomorrow?
Have you seen any signs of pain?
Feline Pain Scale Inflammation, likely from surgery, can also cause inflated numbers. As can a bounce caused by that fast drop he had last night.
I think have his sheet updated correctly now but let me know if i missed something.
I should have mentioned yesterday that the antibiotic Kai is currently on is part of a 21-day course prescribed by his primary vet to help prevent infection from the ulcerating mass prior to surgery. However, his surgeon (a different vet) specifically told me she was not concerned about post-surgical infection and did not plan to put him on an antibiotic. I had to remind her that he was technically still on the antibiotic from before and that we had some remaining. She said I could either stop it or finish out the course.
Since there was only about a week left, I decided to finish it to help prevent any infection. Now, though, I’m concerned it may be upsetting his stomach, or possibly this is still an effect of the anesthesia. Today he’s had soft-serve stool twice, once this morning and once this evening. He has about three pills left. Should I stop the antibiotic?
They also did not prescribe anything additional for pain. I do have gabapentin on hand, but that was prescribed for sedation during vet visits, not specifically for pain management. And you are correct, today is the third and final day of Onisor.
As far as signs of pain or grimacing, I haven’t noticed any. I’ve also been watching closely for the dreaded sphinx pose, but thankfully there’s been no sign of that. The only things that seem out of the ordinary are that he’s still sleeping a lot more, which I assume is normal after essentially being “cut in half” - and his appetite is still off. Today, his appetite has been the worst it’s been so far. On the positive side, he has been moving around more and grooming himself a bit more normally.
I imagine he’s sore, as he isn’t attempting to jump onto his towers or furniture and seems content with his heating pad and the beds I’ve placed on the floor for him.
Overall, I’m not overly worried about the sleeping, but the lack of appetite and the upset stomach are concerning, though this is only day one of those two issues. He’s also been drinking more water than usual, which I’m hoping is more related to his higher BG levels rather than his kidneys.
