Boing🙄

Have a performance review with Tiger Mom and that manager today 🫣🫥 Totally know that both will be😠 and harshly criticize my inability to get this %##% lab under control like the previous person did. All the issues I inherited from the previous person who made everything look 🌈☀️ to Tiger Mom when it wasn't. She just knew how to play the office politics game. Oh and I had no onboarding or any information or mentoring when I started. I had to figure everything out myself and the person who was kind of doing the work when the other person left (literally the day after she interviewed me) was no help. I think she was just glad to be rid of doing extra work. Lab safety... why is it even part of the job description? At any other company it's the lab manager's job.

The manager has already alluded to a statement in the RAs offer letters that says they can be let go at any time for any reason. That's a threat IMO.

🍍🍍💩💩☠️🤬

Sorry for the venting😳

The vet's secretary is going to probe HR about an open position in the pathology Lab. The pay isn't great but I'm willing to take a pay cut while still looking for something in industry. Going to reach out to this resume person I keep seeing on LinkedIn on to see if she can help polish up my resume and do a cover letter. I have no idea how anyone does a career change and adjust their cover letters and resumes.

Oof, that sounds so frustrating. I can relate deeply to quite a lot of what you've dealt with and performance reviews are the worst anyway. Also yes, that manager's allusion sounds threatening and uncomfortable! I'm not sure if you live in my state or not, but here all employment is "at-will" and technically anyone can be let go at any time for any reason (barring certain union protections), so bringing it up is just icky.

Do you mind if I ask what your industry is?

Best of luck with it all. I've been working on a career change for awhile and I think the worst part is that now so much depends on having exactly the right keywords in your resume for every. Single. Different. Job. Because they all use AI screening before a single human looks at anything. (And I'm very resistant to using AI tools on my end for complicated personal reasons.)

C'mon back down, Leroy, your parent doesn't need any extra stress.

Good luck with the review. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as you fear. Mine got postponed to next week, so I was relieved to put if off for a while, but now dreading it. (I got written up for rescuing a baby mouse running through the check-in line in June and my disciplinary hearings ended up going all the way up to the airport director. My union rep said it was the first time he'd ever been involved in a case involving a rodent! 😹) Anyway, they see me as a liability now, so we'll see what other horrible misdeeds I'll be accused of in the review. 😜 Why are there so few good managers out there?
