Hey ya'll. I feel frustrated! Based on Moses' spreadsheet, it feels like we've gone backwards 5 days. It's early and it could just be the sugar dance, but I'm not sure. He's been realllly sluggish the past 3 days, too. Very different from the active cat I was posting about earlier... Of course, more spot checks would help. I'll get more today.

*Question: So, I've noticed how Moses' past 3 numbers on his spreadsheet have been high. When I was going over the mistakes my mom made on injecting/testing Moses last Wednesday (1/20), I noticed a big bubble in the Lantus insulin cartridge. I told her that blowing bubbles in it was a BIG no-no. But she was intentional about it, because she explained that you need pressure with human insulin.

Anways, it hit me last night, in bed, that the bubble could be corrupting the insulin. This morning, I pulled the bubble out with a syringe and did our normal test/inject. I still think the current AMPS is high, and his recent +7 is high.

Ugh, I'm getting frustrated. With her and feeling like we've lost days. I'm open to hearing suggestions, b/c if I need to toss the insulin and move on to the next, I can.

Of course if this is just a newbie freakout, I'm open to hearing that too.

Re: 1/22 Moses AMPS 259 +7~324 Question!

Please tell your mom that she's wrong. The cartridges are under pressure -- that's why the black stopper at the end moves when you extract insulin. Injecting air into a cartridge could cause it to explode.

Moses is actually making good progress. You have gotten some blue numbers and there are no doubt more in there but unless you are around to test, it's hard to know that for sure. On the other hand, you had a week of pink pre-shot #s and now they are mostly yellow and blue. That is very good progress. Once you are home and can do more testing, I suspect you will be pleased with the results.

Re: 1/22 Moses AMPS 259 +7~324 Question!

It's so easy to get frustrated. Try to stay positive and know that you are doing a great job!

I have never used a cartridge, but if it were me, I'd give it a few more days and if you are still concerned, maybe open a new cartridge. Save the old one and if the numbers don't move with the new cartridge, you will know it wasn't the cause of the higher numbers.

It's difficult to follow the dance moves when a cat is leading.

Re: 1/22 Moses AMPS 259 +7~324 Question!

Thanks for the response Sienne. I need to make it a priority to give Moses more spot checks, that will definitely help us understand him and his results better. It's nice to know we're on some kinda track still.

Ya Sara, that makes sense. I just want to be so quick and move to a new cartridge if it means he'll feel better! Only time and more spot checks will tell...

I just looked at Moses SS, you really are making progress! I agree.. it was pink preshots & now not! Way 2 go!! :RAHCAT

Yikes, I ran a little late doing the PMPS. About 30 minutes late  But! Moses was sitting and ready in his spot. :-D

And a couple hours after posting my original question, Moses was starting to show some energy by romping around upstairs. Especially when he blasts out of the litter box, yowling. Made me glad to see him active. That was our highlight. Then he wants to go outside to "play" which really mean sneak bites of grass. I caught him in the act and we came in.

Now he's in post-dinner cleanup mode. The Hulk is having a most satisfactory day after all  Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement! I really needed it!

I'm glad Moses had a good day!

I agree with the others, get some spot checks this weekend and we can see how this dose is doing and whether it needs to be adjusted. I see a lot of progress, though, all that blue and yellow so early in the game are very promising. :-D
