Hey everybody,

I'm sorry, but I have to take a step away from FDMB for a couple of days.

This weekend's condo's have been pretty intense, with many visitors and lots of advice. At issue here is that there have been too many helpers with no clear direction, so the message is lost. I know you all want to help me help Ole, but snipping at each other with what I perceive as veiled hostility only causes me anxiety and is not helping me help Ole. Also, when visitors come late to the condo and give dosing advice without taking the time to consider what already is in play, it is just too much. The story is not complete by only looking at the SS, but advice givers must also read past condo's and profiles. Yes, a cat doesn't have feathers, but neither can they dose themselves, so my emotions and state of mind are important too.

I am so grateful for the tools that I have received from this forum, and I will apply them in the following days. We will still stick to the protocol, and I am confident that we will be back and see success, I just need a breather.

For those of you that have stayed up late and have helped me with all of my questions, I am eternally grateful! I hope we can pick it back up in a couple of days. And for those of you who visit our condo just to say hello and to offer support and humor, I believe that is the most important service this message board provides. Ole is a tough little guy. He has stumped my vet (who is great) who has worked very hard for Ole and is willing to learn more about insulin. He stumped a feline internist by passing all of his tests with flying colors, except for his BG, so I know that he is a challenging case. It has meant a lot to me to know that there are lots of challenging cases out there that have been successful. I have learned that through this place. That knowledge is invaluable, to know that I am not alone in this FD tango ( and boy, can Ole tango!).

Anyway, I just need to step back and collect myself for a wee bit. His SS is active, and I'll try to improve it. I know my SS sucks because I suck at SS's, but you should see my paintings!

Hi guys .. I'm sorry this is overwhelming you guys and that you need to take a step back, but sometimes you just have to do what you feel is best for you and your furbabies .. We are always around if you need us!

I mostly lurk these days now that Nikki is OTJ, but I just wanted to stop in and say that I've been following your threads and I think you are doing such an awesome job with Ole and handling such a complex situation. Good luck with everything, I know there are lots of us pulling for you and Ole! :YMHUG:
 
We understand you needing to step away for a little while. We'll be here when you are ready to come back. You have to take care of yourself too. You're doing a great job with Ole and he's lucky to have you for his mombean. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
 
i'm so sorry rebekah, but not surprised at all. it is overwhelming. these are old disagreements - the initial conflict happened in 2009 - and every time a cat appears to have a high dose condition it resurfaces. unfortunately, the caregiver gets caught in the middle.

I'm sorry that the condo was overwhelming. It is the one downside of keeping information public -- there are many opinions and it can be hard to sort out who to trust. How can we help you to sort that out?

What I was seeing was that you have two good options for helping bring down Ole's numbers although, using these at the same time may not be the best strategy:
  • Using R - the uses and limitations have been noted but we can summarize if having everything in one place will help;
  • Shooting early - again, Jill did a good job of noting the pros and cons and she can consolidate that information if need be.

For most of us, the goal isn't to be "right." The goal is to help you get a handle on what your options are and what the best strategy may be. It does get overwhelming in so far is that it can be the strategy of the day versus a rule to live by. Our kitties like to keep us on our toes and they refuse to abide by any rule book we devise!

If you need a breather, it's important to listen to that information in order to take care of yourself. We're here if you need anything.

This whole situation is so overwhelming for all of us, and when you have a kitty who keeps throwing you curve balls, it becomes even more so. There is so much information here, and so much knowledge and experience, and it all comes at you so quickly. I can see why you need to step back and take some deep breaths. One thing you can be sure of is that everyone on this board that posts on your condo cares about you and Ole. We all wish you the best and hope you will come back soon. I know it can be overwhelming and frustrating, so take as much time as you need to just take some deep breaths and let go. We all understand!!

This disease is hard enough without having people sniping at each other.

Boy do I get that. This place can be pretty overwhelming. Many kind and helpful people but still it is so hard. Hope your break gives you some peace.

You've learned a lot and you have strength and composure. You ask good questions. Ole' is very lucky to have you and Alex.

I promise you it is not always like it was the last two days. Typically, it is much quieter and "normal". I'm sorry for your anguish and the stress it caused you. I hope you come back.
