Good morning, Everyone.

After a late night last night, this bean greets the day a bit bleary eyed but happy because we have a dose decrease! Basil hit 48 last night and began to go back up very quickly.

As I went to bed, I left him some food, but Rosie the sister was after it. So, I put it onto a part of the kitchen counter that Rosie can't reach and that Basil usually scopes out when no one is looking, even though he is not allowed to. haha_smiley
But, he never looked for it! It was all there this morning at AMPS-2.

He is NOT in the mood to be tested. I feel bad for him. Can anyone advise on the very minimal testing we need on the first day of a dose decrease?

Thank you to my wee-hours mentors for helping me with last night's drama. Drama is good, but it still is wearing and it is so good to have someone to keep an eye on Basil with us.

+3, +6 and +9
is that minimal? :lol: I dunno know the meaning of that word - no, dunno know it very well... :mrgreen:

Hi Ronnie,

He ate his usual can of FF LC. He then usually gets another half can at about +6.

I do think Basil would argue with that schedule as being minimal, but if that's necessary...

With dose change craziness, do you learn much by testing the day of the change?

So, this +3 number, is this a good place to be?

Looking at basil's ss, do you think we are in a situation where we should feed and retest in 30 mins? Or is he just likely to be surfing NEAR the 60s?

I would feed some lc and retest in 30 minutes. This is not a bad number but it is early in the cycle so you want to get Basil surfing.

Yes, Fluffy and Basil's AMPS are very close! But I sure hope he is not at 58 while I am at tbp nailbite_smile

Are you there to feed and monitor?

Well, I hemmed and hawed for so long about feeding, that he ended up having only the little bit of dried chicken (1tsp?) and a retest at +3.5 gave us a 61.

Someone is here all day,although I will be out for a while later. HusbandBean can test and feed, though.

Fluffy--listen to me--your Bean has to go to tbp and you are to keep your BG nice and even today, okay? You can dip way low tonight at about 2am, though. That will be fine. ;)

Nice surf and no big drop but it is still early in the cycle so leave food out for Basil and he should do fine. It's great that your DH can test and feed. Sounds like Basil is in good hands.

OMG noooo not while mamabean is sleepin!! :o He does get a snackus at 11pm and 3am so that I can kind of sleep without worrying. He either paws at my face or paws at the feeder at least 30 minutes prior to feeding though :-|

Well, husband bean tested, but he did not record, post or feed! ohmygod_smile I fed basil at +8 and he was fine and playful.

Linda--beans are supposed to sleep? Come on! Let's get realistic here. :roll: We live to serve.

Lydia -

Have you thought about splitting up that 1/2 can of FF that you're feeding at mid cycle? That's a fairly hefty chunk of food all at once. When I'm home, I give about 1/8 can of FF at +2, 4, 6 and sometimes at +8. It's not that much so it is easy on her pancreas but enough to keep Gabby surfing.

Um, basil? We had a decrease, dear kitty. Have you noticed? Apparently not. What does this mean? The crazies from other decreases seemed to make him go up in the short term? Not complaining. Just askin'!

So, now we have a really steep climb. He's confusing me!

My plan is to leave him food and go to bed unless someone thinks he might come down a lot again in this cycle.

DH is willing to get up and do a +6 or 7 if that might be necessary. Thoughts?

Some of the action is due to the shed being a little full as a residual from your previous dose. (Well, that's one explanation.The other is that Basil is being a cat!) I'd probably get another check in 30 min or so to see if the numbers are still on the rise or if Basil is surfing.

Sienne is right about the previous shed action. The last dose is still a bit active in the body right now, but Basil is doing fantastic! :-D

If your DH wants to grab another test then that's great, otherwise given that rise I'd say it is fine to leave out food and head to bed (which I assume you already have done ;-) ).
