Good Morning, Everyone,

After 10 months with the FreeStyleLite meter (new version, using the butterfly strips), we have returned to the ReliOn Micro. The evidence against the FreeStyleLite was just too overwhelming. I'm prepared to see somewhat higher numbers on Rusty's SS, but I must say that I am not disappointed in this morning's AMPS! I believe I have read on the board that the Walmart ReliOn test strips (which are made by Arkray) are just a Walmart branding of the Arkray test strips for the Arkray meters (Arkray GlucoCard 01 Blood Glucose Meter and the Arkray GlucoCard 01 Mini Blood Glucose Meter, which, as far as I can tell, are the same as the Relion Confirm and the Relion Micro, respectively). Can anyone confirm that this info. is correct? If it is, the Arkray strips are very inexpensive if you buy them from American Diabetes Wholesale. In fact, you can get 5 boxes of 50 strips (250 strips) for $69.99.
http://www.americandiabeteswholesal...-sensor-blood-glucose-test-strips_4050_54.htm

The last time I bought the strips at Walmart they were $20. a box.

Rusty had a good night and woke us up early with kitty kisses, and then woke us up again with the hairball hack (no hairball yet, however!). He had a good test, breakfast (Wellness turkey), shot, and is chillaxin' on his bed by the radiator. I took Edward to yoga class and told Rusty we would have a game when I got back, but he's still chillaxin'. I'm about to go down and roust him out of his bed!

The ski today was postponed until Friday. We are having a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain is expected soon. The temperature went from -17 degrees to +35 degrees in 24 hours!! After this warming, it's supposed to go down into the single digits tonight.

Thanks, everyone, for your help with the meter issue yesterday.

We are continuing to keep all sick kitties, especially Sid, in our thoughts and prayers. Get well!!

Ella & Rusty

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), strip question

Nice AMPS Rusty!

I can't completely confirm your question. I can tell you though, that we use the Arkray mini from AWD. It is $42 for 200 strips plus a meter, before the rebate. So...it is actually cheaper to get a meter and 200 strips than just to buy the strips. I have a bunch of extra meters now, but I send them off to DCIN when I get enought of them.

Hope you have a great day!!

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), strip question

we're having a crazy mix of weather too, I hate it, makes everyone sick around here.
Hope you don't suddenly find a Rusty hairball by stepping in it like I tend to do
Hope you, Edward and Rusty have a lovely day

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), strip question

Hi guys .. loving the amps rusty! We always bought our relion strips at wal mart, but it does sound like a much better deal online if they are compatible .. Sorry to hear your skiing today got cancelled .. I can't believe all this crazy weather everyone seems to be having .. hope you guys have a great day!

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), strip question

That is quite the deal on those strips, very cheap! I wish our walmarts sold Relion.

What a great way to wake up, kitty kisses. Rusty always sounds like such a sweetheart.

Good call on the skipping skiing, the weather sounds horrible there.

Have a wonderful day Ella and Rusty.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), strip question

Morning Ella!

Interesting data on the freestyle meter. It is my back-up meter too. I have no clue on the Akray meter and strips - but sure like the pricing quoted by Melissa. Alot cheaper than the meter I know use. Good luck!

Still great numbers for Rusty! Green once again. :-D Good luck with rousting Rusty out of bed for play time! Best tell him he is missing out on snow stuff at Mannie's - already I hear the snowmobile out side.

Bummer on no ski today - but at least it is only a postponement. That temperature fluctuation sure must wreck havoc on things... Hope all settles down for you.

have a great day today!

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), strip question

Rusty's numbers are great again this morning. I love those wakeup kitty kisses!

Those are the strips that fit the ReLion. I set up an auto ship order (can be changed at any time) and receive a further discount off of that price.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), strip question

Hi Ella, that's a good plan to just use the Relion Micro, as I was also following the meter discussion. I used to be in Rehab on obsessive meter comparison, along with Marje. Now I'm cured and just use the Relion as a back-up. Oops, I did a comparison this morning, but that was just because I had a low Maggie number. All kidding aside, there does seem too much negative evidence with the FS. Have a nice day and that is terrible weather. keep warm today.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), strip question

Rusty! Oh what beautiful AMPS you handed MamaBean! Keep surfin' but don't get TOO close to the shallow end please...

(Gonna shout - get ready->) THE REASON SHE'S HAVING TO BUY MORE STRIPS IS THAT SHE SENT ME THE STRIPS THAT CAME WITH HER METER.....

What an amazing wonderful person you are Lady - I'm sorry you don't have strips but I do know the ADW Arkray strips fit both the Micro and the Contour meters. You'll never know just how much we appreciated your sending them to us tho'....we danced in your honor for quite some time.

BIG HUGS!

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65. strip question

Hey Lyresa, I'm glad I sent you those strips. I didn't think I'd use them before they expired, since I was using my ReliOn as a back-up meter. So you and KT got to dance and that's great!

Lots of hugs,

Ella

p.s. The reason I had so many extra boxes of strips was because ReliOn had a recall on the strips for their other meter, the Ultima. I took back my Ultima strips and exchanged them for the ReliOn strips and bought a ReliOn meter. (The Ultima was Stu's meter and took a larger drop of blood than the ReliOn.)

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65. strip question

I just recently started using an Arkray meter & I love it! However the Relion strips I had from the Relion meter I have did not interchange w/the Arkray, I don't know why.

IMHO the Arkray is probably the 2nd best meter I have ever used behind the AccuCheck, or maybe better, it's been over a year since I used the AccuCk. I have about every kind of meter made, I figure that way I can always use whatever strips are available or on sale! Some I like, some I don't. I like my Maxima too, but I get a lot of "bad" strips w/error msgs when I use it.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65. strip question

Thanks for the info., Desi,

I ordered an Arkray GlucoCard 01 meter along with the strips just to be on the safe side. But it does look as if the Arkray GlucoCard 01 and the Arkray GlucoCard 01 Micro are interchangeable with the Relion Confirm and Relion Micro (Arkray makes those two meters for Walmart). Arkray makes a lot of other--different-- meters, too. Could you have one of those? Or maybe you have the Relion Ultima, which uses different strips from the Micro and the Confirm (the Ultima strips are individually foil wrapped; the Micro and Confirm strips come loose in a plastic case). Whatever, I think I have all the bases covered!!

I'll check in to see how your girls are doing later,

Ella

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65. strip question

Nice numbers even on the other meter. Too bad on skiin, but in icy conditions it is just frustrating anyway.

I just looked at the ADW site and that offer of 200 strips and an Arkray mini is no longer available. i guess they finally realized their mistake. Darn, that sounded like a great deal for a backup.

Desi, contact Maxima. I was having problems and it was the meter not the strips. They will replace it for free. i think I used it so much that the contacts that held the strips were wearing out. PM me is hve a direct contact number.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65. strip question

I actually just ordered and they don't have it anymore. I paid $45 for 250 strips. It was buy 4 boxes get one free.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65, +8 52. strip questio

Hi Melissa,
I just ordered, too, and it was $69.99 for 250 strips (buy 4 boxes, get one free). You must have an "in" with the company!!!

Ella

p.s. I just checked the ADW site. The $45.00 deal is for one of their other meters, the Glucocard "Vital". I don't think these are the same test strips: http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/product/arkray-glucocard-vital-test-strips_4027_1.htm

Is that the meter you use? If not, you maybe should check with them.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65, +8 52. strip questio

It is the meter I use. That is also where the 4 boxes plus meter for $44.42 comes in. I see which one you ordered. I wonder what the difference is?

edit: It looks like the difference is the amount of blood needed.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65, +8 52. strip questio

OH NO NOT THE Meter Discussion again!!!!! ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile --
OY!
Beautiful numbers for Rusty today--Hope he has a banner day--Sorry your skiing is postponed!
have a good evening!!HUgs & Love from us!

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65, +8 52. strip questio

Oh, I see. That one isn't compatible w/ the Relion Confirm and micro strips. Only the Arkray GlucoCard 01 works. I wonder if the other Relion strips work with the Vital Sensor? It looks a lot like the Relion Ultima.

Re: 1/17 Rusty AMPS 74 (ReliOn), +5 65, +8 52. strip questio

Oh Rusty, you make Auntie Barb's heart sing :-D

Oh goody, the meter discussion again.

I was forced to drive the 25 miles to WalMart today, because I'm low on strips, and my order is not due until Friday. Why does the kid require more strips when I'm low?
I went to a local pharmacy today, thinking I'd buy the more costly ones and the meter to go with it, but the strips are soooooo much more expensive than the Relion. $65 for 50 strips was the cheapest they had.
I pay $40 for 100 strips of ReliOn. I drove!
I like that I can buy the Relion online as well as in person. I also like the Presto, but must buy online.

Sorry you had to put off the winter fun today, Ella. I rushed out this morning for strips, because it was raining, and 'they' were threatening snow. I panic shop.
By the time I came out of the store, it had stopped raining and had gotten warmer.....44 degrees.
(where's the degree thingy on the keyboard?)

Re: 1/17 Rusty PMPS 77 (ReliOn)

Hi again, everyone,

It looks like the meter/strips thing is straightened out. I'll let you know if there are any problems when I get the strips. In the meantime Rusty has had a nice, very green day as measured by the ReliOn micro. I stayed away from the FreeStyleLite. Didn't want to confuse the issue further. Rusty had a great day of playing. We played for almost an hour after his +8 test and had fun with all his toys. I didn't think he'd want to play, since he was pretty low at +8 (52 on the ReliOn and who knows how low that might have been on the FSL). But I heard him batting the bell ball out of his busy box so went downstairs to play with him.

Off to visit condos. The weather is really awful: 36 degrees with heavy rain, later to turn to freezing rain, etc. etc. Edward and I are supposed to go on a snowshoe bushwhack tomorrow, but I have doubts that it will go. We'll see.

Hope all is well in LL, and thanks again, everyone, for your helpful comments today,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 1/17 Rusty PMPS 77 (ReliOn)

I've been using the ReliOn Confirm for a while now. I get the Arkray strips you ordered from ADW, no problems! I also go through MrRebates.com for 4% cash back, then search around for online coupons...last time I scrounged up an extra $5 off, plus by ordering 3 boxes of syringes at the same time, I got the free shipping. I swear, tracking down as many deals as possible one order is starting to become a big game!

Have a lovely evening!!!
