Today Taz went back to the vet for his 1 week check up. The vet said there were some high numbers he wasn't happy with, and some low numbers he wasn't happy with, but overall he was pleased with Taz's numbers. He said that Taz seems to be doing really well his first week for a cat that is dealing with pancreatitis, along with new insulin. He said that he wants to drop the dosage to 1 unit, twice a day, and see how Taz does with it now that hopefully the pancreatitis is healing and his pain is being managed. He could tell that Taz was scared, and Taz's BG was 282 this time. Last time he was so high that the meter couldn't read the number. Taz weighed 17.3 pounds last Friday, and today he was 17.2.
He appreciated me having a chart of Taz's readings and said we didn't need the fructosamine test because he could see exactly where he was. He also said that if we have to cut down on testing through out the day, that we could alternate days.... before insulin today, between the middle of the cycle tomorrow. We'll definately continue with at least before insulin and at +6, and fit in others when needed. Overall, he said we were doing a good job and he wants to see him back in 7-14 days to see how the new amount is working. He tries to start insulin at the lowest dose and adjust from there. He didn't like jumping right to 2 units, but he didn't want to change what the ER vet said either, until he could get a better picture.
