Last Night:
HI PMPS
466 +4.75
235 +12

I gave J.D. 3rd dinner at +11 last night. Both cats have been fasting (Ginger, just because J.D. is) since then.
J.D. is getting a fasting Spec fPL and other regular blood work, urinalysis, and blood pressure test, this morning (in 20 minutes).

I let the cats outside for a walk, and J.D. ate a few blades of grass

I haven't finished updating my spreadsheet (from memory) for last night. Today, Google is a pain. Almost every time I add something in a field, I get an error and have to re-add it :-| patiently wait for that to Save, and then do the same to the next field. I don't know if it's my computer or Google docs.

I hope his Spec fPL has come down and all his other blood work is fine.

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224 fasting - off to vet. apt.

Lots of good thoughts heading your way for a good outcome on J.D.'s testing.

As always, for you and your boy, vines. Many vines.

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224 fasting - off to vet. apt.

Sending tons of good vetty vines for J.D.!

As for the SS...you're not the only one! I can't tell you how often I say "you suck!!" to Trix's SS because I'm having the same problem with errors and it deleting stuff I enter. In fact I just checked the entry I did earlier this morning....the big ole error box is up on the screen. It is SO frustrating!!

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224 fasting - off to vet. apt.

Sending great test results vines! I hope all is getting back to normal!

I know on Google. I don't get ther errors so much as nothing happens for the longest time. I come back to it and still nothing! I wonder if they are getting too big w/ all the extra tab and we should start new ones?

Adding in lots more good vetty vines for J.D. I hope all goes well.

I get that same problem, Ann. No errors - just the "working" message. :YMSIGH:

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224 fasting - off to vet. apt.

Hi Dyana! I'm sending good vetty vines for J.D. and prayers that all results are good/better. It's always hard to fast kitties:(

I hope you have a good weekend:)

I hope everything went well with the vetty this morning and you get good test results back.

I have lots of problems with Google too. I get errors and I get the nothing happens thing.

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224, +3 218, +7.25 263, +8.5 256

There has to be something going on with Google. I added the 256, and got the error. Re-entered it and it was "saving" for like 5 minutes, and finally took. I then tried to change tabs to my Labs and that took long minutes to load.

All I know is that his first blood pressure was 167 (over?) 120. And the vet said she was happy. I think he got the one test on his tail and the machine was taking too long to get a reading, so she switched to the front leg and he got a few on his front leg.

I brought a can of MC FF Medleys with me and when he was done with the exam I opened the can and J.D. was starting to eat it and the vet said to stay awhile (in the exam room) and let him finish his breakfast. He only have some of it.

While waiting to check out and have them re-do the charges because they tend to mess up (charged me $99.00 for the Spec fPL as a "separate test" again, when it is supposed to be $19.90 as an add on to the Total Health Plus), I put the opened can in his carrier, and when I went to leave he was laying in it. He needs a bath, as he had wet food all over his right hind end, which I have wiped off and kind of dried, but still needs a washing.

It has been kind of a lazy day. And I did get a nap.

J.D. ate some more MC when we got home from the vet, but not enough. So, I syringe fed him again, his full 7 (BID) syringes. One reason, was that his weight at the vet was 10lbs 0.5oz. He was 10lbs 9.5oz on Wed. morning and Thur. morning, and 10lbs 4.5oz last night. I don't like him dropping, so I guess right now is not a good time to let him go without food until he just eats on his own :-|

J.D. and Ginger both got Frontline Plus on June 9th. On June 10th, J.D. was not feeling good, and I actually left work early, I was so worried and took him to the vet. So, J.D. has had no Frontline since. I have asked all the vets, and they all say it is okay for J.D. Ginger got another dose of Frontline Plus on September 13th, but has been scratching like mad ever since, so I guess I waited too long between doses. I had the vet check to see if J.D. had fleas and she said he had some flea dirt, so he finally got his second dose at 1:30 (+7). At +8, he did projectile vomiting of a bunch of fluid. I have seen the evidence of the big wet spots of the vomiting before, but have not witnessed it. I do not know what causes it. As far as I know, he has done it about 3 or 4 other times this year.

He kept looking in the cat food bowl after that, and after a while, I added a fresh can of FF, and J.D. licked at it and took maybe one tiny bite. That is better than just walking past the cat food bowls and not looking and...
...I had company come over for about 20 minutes, and J.D. ate some MC at +9.5, and is eating some LC FF now. He just eats a few bites, and I should just be happy with that.

That's about it. I better do some dishes, to get the kitchen sink clean, so I can give him a bath.
Then Ginger and I need to get to a pet store to get the Nature's Logic I use for his syringe feedings. It's just depressing syringe feeding forever. And J.D. doesn't like it either. The bits he eats on his own, just isn't enough.

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224, +3 218, +7.25 263, +8.5 256

i've switched my cats to Revolution, although because they don't go outside at all, i haven't put any on them in a year or so. The last time I put Frontline on Anya she slept for hours straight - like the next couple of days. So the vet said not to give it to her anymore. The fleas in this area have become resistant to Frontline anyway. Little buggers.

I'm sure it's rough continually doing the syringe feeding. :YMHUG:

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224, +3 218, +7.25 263, +8.5 256

I use Advantage Multi on all my cats, even though they are 100% indoor cats. I've never had any kind of bad reaction, except for a ticked off cat (they all hate it!). You have to get it from the vet.

JD has a lovely yellow surf going today. Much nicer than some of the numbers he's shown us lately. I'm sorry he's not eating enough, but at least he is still interested. Too funny about laying on the food! I'm sure he'll feel good after the bath, though.

Sending lots of good appy vines.

I have a lot of problems with the SS, too, but I think they have more to do with the spreadsheet itself. A lot of times my cells don't fill in the colors and I have to do it manually. Or it looks like what I'm typing isn't showing up, but I look up at the paint can icon and see it's set to white, as is the font color one. I've had to redo the conditional formatting (which took me forever to figure out) several times, but I still have that problem. Very frustrating!!! I'm looking forward to starting a new page when the new year comes and hoping we don't have these problems with it!

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224, +3 218, +7.25 263, +8.5 256

It sounds like you should switch flea medicine. I use Advantage II. You can get it and the Advantage Multi at 1800Petmeds.com. Even though my cats are indoor only, I still use it because I can carry fleas in.

Do you weight J.D. after he eats or before he eats? I weight Furball once a week and have noticed that her weight can vary a couple of ounces based on whether she has eaten or not when I weigh her.

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224, +3 218, +7.25 263, +8.5 256

Thanks for the suggestions on flea meds. I'm afraid I already have them in my carpet, and will have to vacuum like heck everyday.

J.D. seems to feel better all clean. We went for a walk in the sun. He tries to lick his paws while standing for some reason and is wobbily, so it's difficult. Why he doesn't sit or lay to do it, is unknown. He ate a decent bit of food when we got home from the walk (at +10.5, but eating is eating). Right now, he's laying next to me. He's keeping real close to me today.

I'm off with Ginger to the pet store.

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224, +3 218, +7.25 263, +8.5 256

Sorry to hear about the Frontline. It seems to have lost it's effectiveness against fleas here, and one of my civvies has developed a sensitivity to it on top of that. (He's become sensitive to all of the "drop" flea meds, it seems.) I actually posted a while back on Health about alternatives for him. People gave me several suggestions. I'm not sure if any of them would be helpful for you, but here's a link to that post just in case: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=125345.

Sending lots of good appy vines to J.D. and lots of good bath vines, too. (I hope J.D. reacts better to baths than Jersey does.)

Re: 09/27 J.D. AMPS 224, +3 218, +7.25 263, +8.5 256

Try putting a shallow bowl of soapy water on the floor w/ a small light over it at night, Ip cover the bowl w/ a wire frame from a hanging planter to keep Tess out of it. Fleas are attracted to the light and will die in the soapy water. It should let you know if there are any in the carpet.

That shopping trip was another pain, today. The downtown in my town is a street of victorian houses that have mostly been converted to shops and the pet store is on the main street (one lane each way). They have these old car shows and all the old cars take up all the parking spots. I was super lucky to get the only parking spot around and it was in front of the pet shop. I bought the six cans of Nature's Logic Feline Chicken Dinner Fare that they had weeks ago, and just stupidly expected them to be re-stocked. They had none. He said they should be in the next order and be here on Monday and then checked the order and they were not on it, so it could be 10 days or more before they get any :-|
We went to another pet store and bought Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Chicken and Pea. I hope I don't upset his tummy by changing his food. At least I feed a mixture of 1/2 can of Iams Maximum Calorie and 1/2 can of Nature's Logic and 1/2 can of Friskies, so I'll only be changing a third of the mixture.

J.D. ate some more FF when we got home, so I'll take him for a walk, and give him a little blow dry, and then I'll mix up the food, and give him some, and then I'm going to visit my elderly neighbor who just got home from a 6 week vacation in Germany. That sounds like too much to do before bedtime, but I'll try.

for your carpet, you can sprinkle diatomaceous earth on it. Won't hurt you or the kitties, but it's crushed diatoms (ocean critters/shells?) and it looks just like a heavy flour. It has sharp edges to it (not to you or the cats, but sharp to the fleas or ants) and they cut through the waxy coating on the insect. Then the insect will dehydrate and die. The stuff works great and it's nontoxic. I've used it both for fleas and carpenter ants.

I'd probably keep the cats out of the room while i was putting it out and for 1/2 hr afterwards, just so they don't breathe it while it's in the air.

The best way I've found to distribute it is to put it in a large kitchen strainer, then tap the strainer against your hand. some of it will sift out. You can cover your carpet with it, but i've been told fleas especially like the edges of the room, so i'd concentrate it there. Everytime we put bark chips next to the house I do it again, because around here, you get carpenter ant eggs with the bark. I buy the D. earth at a garden store. Someone recently on here said that you should buy it at a pet store - i don't know about that, but i have seen it at the pet store. I've only used the garden store bags and haven't seen any problem from them.

One difference is the 10lb bag you buy at a garden store costs $5ish and the 1/2 cup jar you buy at the pet store costs $5ish.

An entomology professor at the university told me about it years ago when we had a horrible flea infestation - so bad you could see them hopping in the yard. He told me to buy it at the plant nursery.

You need to get food grade DE, not the kind sold for pool filters. Work it into the carpeting and then vacuum up the residue. Vacuuming will attract the fleas and get them into the DE. Also i don't like leaving too much around, it is fine and can be stirred up. I also take the cushions off the couch and dust it into the crevasses.

Hi ((Dyana)),

It's sounds like you've had a really hard day. I hope JD eats for you tonight.

I use My Flea Trap and they work brilliantly. It cost me $50ish dollars but it's an American product so it might be cheaper for you. I didn't want to try DE because I didn't want to aggrevate Angie's breathing difficulites. We have big flea issues here because we have rabbits and when Jetzin was dying I couldn't put any flea treatment on him. The carpet in my room was infested. The flea traps are non toxic and get all the fleas out of the carpet in hours. You need to use them in the dark and keep animals and humans out of the room while the trap is on so that the fleas focus on the traps. At the worst point I did that two evenings in a row and they were all gone. You need to repeat it every week for a little bit while any left over fleas hatch. I put the trap in different rooms on different evenings when we see a flea.

I've also found that the fleas in my area are resistant to Frontline. I use Revolution too and since we have this trap, I've just been treating Angie when I find them on her. Revolution also seems to have a much smaller amount of liquid and doesn't smell as strong afterwards. Jetzin in particular hated being dosed with Frontline and thought Revolution was by far the lesser of two evils.
