Still waiting for word about whether the CBC and Cobalamin/Folate tests are back. The CBC should be, I would think.

This morning, J.D. really needed to go poo. He was outside and his tail was high, and he was trying to find the right spot to go, but couldn't. He went up the two porch steps and I kind of sort of watched him, but not really, go through the iron railings onto the deck. When I eventually went to follow him into the house, I saw very dark colored liquid just this side of the railings that J.D. would have squeezed himself through. My eyes bulged, thinking it could be blood or something. I took a white napkin and cleaned it up and it was brown, not red, on the napkin. I took another white napkin and wiped J.D.'s butt and there was no moisture, just a tiny half of a pea sized piece of poo on the napkin when I was done. I smelled the brown stained napkin and it smelled like oil ? I then smelled J.D.'s poo napkin and it smelled like poo. I kept smelling the oil one and it did not smell like the poo one, so I am just watching J.D. It was weird and I am a worry wort.

Not only is it okay but it is what you want. Elevated numbers are consistent with kidney disease. Elevated phosphorus would mean you need to add binders to his food which can be constipating. He doesn't need either. The labs look really good.

Here's an article on understanding feline blood tests you might be interested in.

I agree his labs look fantastic! they look great for a younger cat but for a 19 year old cat...WOW!! The normal P range for a cat that is 19 is 2.7-4.5. Great job!!! His creat is perfect.

Are you giving binder? If so, how much?

Wow, we love good news! Now as for the mysterious poo... that seems to be going around in LL lately. Could JD have struck oil in your yard somewhere?

No binders. His phosphorus has never been extremely high. I looked at the creatinine and phosphorus and had to make sure that J.D.'s name was on the paper.

I had a bunch of squirrels on my deck this morning (it's all of like 4 feet by 7 feet, if that) and I do see what I think might be a couple of squirrel droppings. It didn't smell like peanuts though. It smelled like motor oil. I have checked J.D.'s butt 6 times now with napkins and toilet paper and nothing there. J.D. must think I'm weird.

I'm going to call now to see if his CBC is back.

He had a tummy ache this morning, after feeding. I feel so bad for pushing food on him when it hurts his tummy.
But, this afternoon, he did go to the cat food bowl and ate some LC cat food on his own. :)

Mainly, at the moment, we're trying to stop probiotics for 3 days to see if that helps with his tummy. The nutritionist sounded like she treats inappetant cats (via feeding tubes) all the time and has lots of experience with it, and kept saying Iams MaxCal. MaxCal. MaxCal. MaxCal. Ug. At least I am learning to count calories. He got half MaxCal and half Friskies this morning.

Off to go make a phone call, and hopefully to go pick up some paper work.

Yay for a good BW report! :-D

Boo for scary mystery substance. Is it possible it was there before and you just didn't see it? Is there anything around that might have leaked it, or could yard workers have spilled, leaked it? If it smells like motor oil, I can't believe it had anything to do with J.D.

Sending good appy and poo vines.

I'm so glad to hear that J.D.'s bloodwork looks good!!

I can totally see myself sniffing napkins to track down the mysterious brown goo. My cats think I'm weird too.

Great blood work results! All of your hard work with him is paying off. I wonder if the brown fluid could be anal gland fluid. It usually has a very strong and distinctive scent though, and I wouldn't describe it as an oil scent.

could have been anal glands. twink would do this. did not stink but kind of an oil or sweet smell and oil colored too brownish gold

I'm glad J.D ate some on his own for you. That's great his lab results are good. I was thinking what Tricia said, maybe it was already there and it's not from J.D.

great lab results! woot!

i'm wondering if the oily looking stuff came from the squirrels. We have a zillion squirrels travel through our yard and across our deck, and i often seen small oily looking puddles. I'd sorta decided that it might be urine when the squirrel is in heat. As oddly as that sounds, it is intermittent and i know the squirrels are leaving it. They squat to pee on our deck and sometimes it looks like that, dark and oily-like, and sometimes it looks like ordinary urine puddles.

but in any case, it doesn't sound like it came from JD.

nice to see him down in the 200's today.

and you worry cuz you love the little guy that much, which is a good thing. we all understand it.

Good suggestion from Dian and let J.D. know what a good job he (and you) did with his labs!

I'm glad his potassium and sodium and chloride are all within range and I'm happy with his creatinine. I wonder about his phosphorus. It's almost on the low side :?

Thank you all for your visits :YMHUG:

It may have looked darker as our deck is painted like a redwood red color. It wiped up cleanly, and looked more just brown on the napkin, but a medium brown, not a light color. It did not smell like poo.

Did Twink just expell it all in one place? J.D. has to squeeze his big belly between the bars, and it was located where his butt would have been as he squeezed through. It's just that I must have wiped his butt with white napkins and white toilet paper at least six times after that (sorry J.D.) and they all came back clean, dry, and with not a hint of brown.

Question: How do fluids help with pancreatitis?
The heart doctor mentioned something about no more than 150ml a day, a 100ml would be better. I talked to the IM doctor after the heart doctor and told her that I would try 100ml every other day, and she agreed that would be good.
In the past I've only given them if he was dehydrated. What do they do to help pancreatitis?

When my kitty was dealing with it my feline vet said the fluids were to be given if kitty wasn't eating as much....thus taking in less water.

It keeps them hydrated and electrolytes balanced. As you know, some pancreatitis kitties vomit which results in dehydration.
